>Batman: Year One

"I'm not a Batfan," is what I said before a gaggle of anons began to tell me that Year One is the MUST READ Batman comic, even if you don't like Batman you will like this comic. Well guess what? It was shit. Everything involving anyone who wasn't Gordon was boring as fuck, the only thing that Batman did that sticks out in my head was when he went after the cop who shot at the cat. Redhood and the Outlaws might be the worst thing on my sheld, but I look at year one and am reminded that I wasted 17 bucks on something that I should have just pirated.

I've seen the argument " well these comics aren't meant for you" except the same thing is true of Gotham Academy and Ms. Marvel, but I can actually see quality and talent in those books. Lumberjanes was fucking boring

Batman Year One is only really worth it for the Mazz art. Born Again is the stronger Miller/Mazz story by far.

Punisher max specifically Aaron's fucking run with Dillion lifeless shitty art almost ruined the whole series max until the Tygre came out.
>>
>>80808304
Yeah, seriously, how dare he write about Canada? HOW DARE HE? Doesn't he understand that Canada is a meme and memes are bad?
>>
>>80808304
White people hate wasn't in vogue when it came out, and it pretty much was pop culture gold at the time it was made. That's why it's still relevant five years after ending.
>>
>>80808291
The art was outstanding, but the writing just fell flat for me, aside from the cat bit, and Jim tosses Flask the baseball bat, it was awfully forgettable.
>>
>>80808247
I think that's what irritates me the most about Lumberjanes - it's not horrendous... just horrendously dull.
>>
>>80808447
Yeah I remember very little about it outside the art and Catwoman being black or mixed or something. I guess the colorist was a Eartha Kitt fan.
>>
>>80808393
It wasn't about whether or not they could just survive a nuclear apocalypse on the country/town but they even ignored what their shitty pamphlet told them! And they still kept trying to turn on electrical appliances even after they already established the power wasn't working and they acted like it was weird.
Seriously, fuck them. There was tons more of stupid shit but I can't be bothered to remember because my friend and I were just begging for them to die already. There's a difference between being naive and optimistic and then just plan retarded.
>>
>>80807720
I posted about that once and how I couldn't finish it. Then I had people yelling at me that the ending was good and that I had no taste. Why should I trudge through garbage to hopefully get a good payout? I could just read a comic that's good the whole way through.

This started out okay, but then just throws everything away for the sake of being experimental. I've heard it's better if you have suffered from mental illness, so maybe it isn't for me.
World of Tomorrow was decent.
>>
>>80809038
>And they still kept trying to turn on electrical appliances even after they already established the power wasn't working and they acted like it was weird.

By that time, they were disoriented by the fallout poisoning. It's one of the symptoms. I know it's hard to spot the difference between them doing weird shit because they were sick and their dottering ordinary slightly senile selves, but at some point after the bomb dropped they went over the edge and you can see their behavior is being seriously affected because their brains are starting to die inside of them. That and they spent part of the film stuck in the denial stage of accepting their own deaths.
>>
>>80808304

the worst part is having the autor go ''these is the music that I was listening while working on this'' as closing words...

and of course the list is ''literally who???'' the bands

Oh how this board has fallen
>>
>>80809375
>at some point after the bomb dropped they went over the edge
But they were still unbelievably retarded before that. Their ignorance only made it worse by exposing themselves to even more radiation, which at that point would be effecting them more than enough to disorientate them.

Superior Spider-Man
Outside of the costume, I found the story really dull and all the characters annoying.
>>
>>80809831
2010 was the last good year.
>>
>>80810128
You just missed some of the words when they made the suggestion. You were supposed to read Superior FOES of Spider-Man.
>>
>>80809981
But that's just the thing- they were ignorant. The pamphlet gave them a set of instructions that were (poorly) designed with the idea in mind of protecting them against fallout, but failed to explain the crucial information that if they went out and came in contact with irradiated dust, they'd get sick and die. They couldn't pull out their iphone and look information on nuclear war up. Jim actually did more research than most people did, but he still lacked understanding of the important workings of the matter. Without grasping that knowledge they only had their own experience to go by, and at first things seemed okay. For example, the water seemed clean, so they drank it. Nothing in the experience from their lives indicated there was anything wrong with that, but it killed them much faster. By the time they should have realized things were very wrong they were too far gone to properly react. And again, they weren't only suffering from physical strain and illness, but emotional strain as well. Their world was literally blown apart.

I don't blame you for not feeling bad for them, though. They were pissing me off a bit too, but I think that frustration is supposed to be part of the tragedy. The film leaves me wondering if they could have survived if only they'd done everything just right and not fucked up, or if they'd always been doomed from the start.

I understand where you are coming from anon, and I know the whole point was that they WEREN'T prepared and they were so blissfully ignorant and in denial but I felt like they went far up and beyond that into pure stupidity all the way around. It's always recommended in feels threads and I'm a masochist so I was ready for bitch tears. And after Grave of Fireflies? Man I was so fucking hyped for another movie to ruin my day. But coming from a person who will legitimately shed a tear from just seeing how happy a dog is to see it's owner came home from work because I will cry at anything sad or even happy - this movie did absolute nothing for me and it's by far grossly overestimated.

For fuck's sake. They were even talking about writing the russians an angry letter because war isn't very nice and then inviting them over for tea.

Ennis' Punisher max, the whole thing is a 12 year Olds idea of mature content.

Ennis actually does his research and Parlov is one of the top Yuro artists to ever grace the business

Read Blankets long before I started coming here. Enjoyed it, then reread it and realised there was a good comic in there trying to get out. Chunky Rice tells the story much better with all the fat cut away.
