I mean to be fair it wasn't exactly a riveting origin and Stark isn't exactly a well-developed character. The concept of this book - to make Tony an interesting character - doesn't seem that egregious to me. Letting Bendis write that story though seems like a mistake, though.

Both the original and the retcons are tied to US's external politics. This is just a story that could have happened at any time... after smartphones became popular.

How about you read Iron Man instead of reading /co/ memes and only the current run?

So what does Mary-Jane have to do with Tony?
>>
>>80805610
Tony Stark met her at a concert while fighting a super-villain.
Apparently in the MU if a concert you're playing at gets attacked by a villain, your career is ruined, so Tony Stark hired her to be his new Pepper Potts. Stark didn't bother doing any background checks on her, so he doesn't even know she used to live in the same building as him and was Peter Parker's girlfriend

No. Its even worse. MJ ran off to Chicago and started a new dance club. All so she could "get away from super heroes" (despite there, you know, being super powered people in Chicago in the Marvel U).

Tony and fights Madam Masque there and fucks up the whole club on opening night, bankrupting MJ.

So he feels guilty and hires her, literally replacing a redhead with a redhead and having zero knowledge of who MJ is (despite, you know, MJ fucking living in his mansion for a while with Peter).

>Tony had some Chitauri virus that implanted the blueprints of the armor into his brain and gave him extraordinary knowledge about building machines.
>He finds an old tape about Mr. Stark teaching tony about *ahem* responsibility
>He then made a few machines and participated in science fairs, and illegally destroyed US army jets.
>Peter discovers that the spider that bit him was actually a result of him deopping a chemical on it randomly while in science lab.
>Turns out he built his shooter and suit after all
>The spider-virus turns on him and he starts drinking.
>Peter starts dying and invents a new serum that gives him enhanced spider-properties for a limited time.
>Parker Industry takes off because this also gave him an intelligence boost.
>He fails sometimes, and wins sometimes.
>He bangs Pepper Potts now.
>He eventually teams up with the other spiders to stop thanos from infiltrating the multiverse during the new event, "Infinity War (out in late 2017)".
>He has to upload his consciousness and his memories to the great spider goddess to save his friends
>Otto Octavius now inhabits Peter's body.
>Shit turns around and the spider goddess is saved by Miles and that Indian spiderman along with Spider - Ham
>They catch Otto (aka peter's body) and give peter his mind back, giving otto a spider's body.
>Peter discovers Parker, Inc. burnt to the ground and he goes to space to start a new life for himself.

The End.

http://www.bleedingcool.com/2016/03/16/international-iron-man-doesnt-know-much-about-geography-or-history/

>International Iron Man #1 is published today. A few days ago Bleeding Cool pointed out how Tony Stark now seemed to be going to Cambridge University – in a town that, for some unexplained reason had a load of East London West Ham United fans chanting in a pub.

>Well, with the publication of the actual issue today things get more confusing.

>Previously, in the established Marvel Universe, Tony Stark went to MIT as a student – which is in Cambridge, Massachussets rather than Cambridge, England. Could this have been where the confusion began? There are possibilities of international transfers between colleges, and this could still fit… but it does seem more of a permanent thing by the language.

>But it gets worse. Because it seems that in International Iron Man – Cambridge University… is in London. They walk out of a pub supposedly in Cambridge (with West Ham supporters) onto the South Bank of London.
>>
>>80807750
No she doesn't. She quit. Tony runs the company and sucks at it. Which is why he is "poor". MJ's whole job is to reign in Tony and make sure he doesn't fuck up.

Really? The only one I know is Hawk-Owl, and he was in the ultimate universe.

Also I'm sure the real reasons was to get away from Peter Parker, which is, you know, more consistent with the ending of Superior than MJ just sat around in NYC in the subsequent run of Amazing and dating Rebound Peter.

As for not knowing her from Adam, aside from OMD bullshit (which would HAVE to make Tony forget the Parkers living in the tower or he'd remember in like 5 minutes), he had to reboot his mind from a pre-extremis backup in Dark Reign, remember?

I mean I get the impulse to shit upon Bendis (his work on X-23 was an abomination), but honestly I think he's treating MJ better than any other writer has since the JMS run.

>>80807064
I think Bendis just decided to get MJ out of Slott's grubby paws so he couldn't shit on her further. Bendis is pro Peter/Mj, and I think pro-marriage, not to mention Slott is squatting on ASM. It was the only way to stop him ruining MJ further.

Thor spent some time in Chicago for a while.

>Also I'm sure the real reasons was to get away from Peter Parker
I'm just going off of what is actually stated on the page. Whether that is actually true or not remains to be seen.

Having said that, Bendis' MJ reads nothing like MJ. Its like he has never read a single issue with 616 MJ in it before. That and he has a tendency to not give a shit about continuity...

So who really knows? Probably not even Bendis himself.
>>
>>80809287
>As for not knowing her from Adam, aside from OMD bullshit (which would HAVE to make Tony forget the Parkers living in the tower or he'd remember in like 5 minutes)

That's not how that works. Even after the bullshit magic spell in OMIT, he should have figured it out.

I was dropped on my head as a child and actually like about 75% of Bendis' work. But this is shit. Can't wait to read the next issue.

That WW2 monument in Bulgaria is the same one that gets hillariously defaced in /co/ fashion.

Pic related.

Why won't Bendis move on? Can't he go to DC or something?
>>

I'm pretty sure Bendis has dirt on someone
When I interned at Marvel the assitant editor on Bendis' X Books got canned and I remember him talking about how Bendis wouldn't even talk to him anymore, how no one would give him Bendis' cell phone number to make working smoother. He also really didn't get along with Brevoort either, so that definitely hurt him as well.

Toyota. One of those late 70s army looking models. Child Seat wasn't properly fastened, I leant out and bam. Got to school and puked.

Sorry for the late reply, but reading good iron man stories is not necesarilly something that proves the origin is good or bad unless the story in question explains it.

That said.
Lee-Goodwin run
Michelinie-Layton run
Director of shield
Demon in a bottle
Armor wars 2
Iron Age(the first one, though the second one is not bad)
Fatal Frontier

Also
>Extremis
>mediochre
Granov was born to draw the Iron Man armor and it features the most convincing argument for the use of drugs ever presented.

He's way too fit to be Bendis though.

Since this is an Iron Man comics thread and I have no idea where else to post this:

Does anyone know which issues of Iron Man have the story where Iron Man gets the Wild Hunt sent after his ass?

I don't read capeshit but I love the concept

Any new #1 of a popular character is going to get tons of replies, especially if it's from a writer we love to hate. This thread isn't even as fast as the Black Widow #1 and fucking nothing happened in that issue. I don't think it has anything to do with people thinking maybe he'll be good and everything to do with everyone wanting to watch the trainwreck in progress.

Anyway unless this is a stealth mini or full of controversial horseshit, the replies will drop off just as quickly.

This. Hell, I'm doing fucking Hellcat and none of them have even come close to getting the amount of replies that #1 got

I wonder what that assistant editor did that got Bendis and Brevoort mad.

Either he was being dumb (possible given the Cambridge thing) or he's thinking long-term in the hopes that International Iron Man sells well in the trade market for years to come.

Told them there's nothing wrong with the number 616 and changing it would just confuse people? I know it triggers Brevoort (Quesada as well among others apperently) at least because they feel numbering Earths is too "DC" and makes 616 sound derivative instead of "The Marvel Universe" which he wants us to use instead. It's never going to stop as a way of referring to Marvel.
