Look, I can take losing the trunks forever, even though they look fucking great. But they have to do something to break up the blue, or else the costume just looks bad. The red belt is not enough.

The trunks exist because early cape costumes were based on circus strongmen and to help break up the colors. Now that's not to say they can't easily be justified for being a product of an earlier era, you just need the JSA to exist to start the trend of earlier capes looking like that. I'd rather we don't go back to the trunks though I wouldn't mind canonizing Supes wearing that suit at some point, you just need the JSA to make it make sense in the context of the DCU.
