Eh he came across as taken to such an extreme degree that it wasn't very serious. Like he was just the stereotypical nonsense cliche that no one actually wants or acts like so as a viewer it was just ridiculous.
In character I can kind of see it, but again Dipper probably thought along the same lines and it was only Wendy and Soos who were at that point ensorcelled reaction to him that kind of stung.

They both have shown that they care for the other person, Dippy Fresh was a creation of what Mabel thought she wanted Dipper to be like, and while she was ensorcelled in the bubble, that was a super stereotypical "rad" person who totally doesn't rock the boat and just has a chill time.

After the divorce I lived with my father, but then he hooked up with a woman who disliked me (broke my finger at one point), so the obedient beta left me with my estranged mother of questionable morale and married with her. This was always still the best ship, mainly because Wendy was a terribly written character who's attitude toward Dipper would change every other episode and Pacific literally had like 2 good episodes and then Alex decided to forget about her completely

She didn't even meet him half way. I can understand a kid throwing a tantrum. In fact it would make a lot of sense. But it's fucking crazy that an entire episode dedicated to the fact that Mable's self-serving wish fulfilment was harming everybody and that she needed to let go of her desires sometimes somehow wound it with Dipper being in the wrong and having to give up his ambitions.
That point soured the entire series. All that would have needed to happen to make stuff excusable would have simply have Mable admit that having Dipper ALWAYS be with her was unrealistic and unfair to him. Have Dipper realise what she's worrying about and have him promise to call every day or whatever. They can go off and have their own adventures and exchange stories and scrapbooks. Throw in a mushy line or two about them still being twins and best friends despite the distance and nothing with change that or whatever. Would have made up for every shitty thing she did in the show.

Irrelevant. It's not that Dipper gave up the thing with Ford. It's that he had something he wanted to do -- that by his knowledge would have been the best thing for him -- and gave it up because his sister was being clingy and possessive. It's that Dipper was painted in the wrong when he had done nothing while Mable is vindicated. Again.
