Is there a single comic book superhero movie with better action scenes than The Winter Soldier?
>>
Spider-Man 2. WS comes second.

And no MoS action scenes are not good.
>>
>>80747817
If you like superpowered beings punching eachother, then you can say MoS has better action scenes.

Personally I prefer grounded, hand to hand combat so TWS is my favorite when it comes to action.

>>
Winter soldier is just a bunch of martial arts choreography and explosions

there are not even any unique sequences
>>
>>80747906
If you like punches with no weight behind them and shitty wirework, then sure.

I swear, that movie had such awful wirework, Cap looked like he was floating most of the time when he jumped.
>>
>>80748012
This is the dumbest complaint I have ever seen for anything in all my years on /co/.
>>
>>80748054

but it's true though
>>
>>80748012
What the fuck constitutes "unique sequences"? The action was perfect for a Captain America movie.
>>
>>80748154
>What the fuck constitutes "unique sequences"?

You know one when you see it

for example, in Ant-Man when they're fighting inside a briefcase
>>
TWS wasnt exactly a superhero'esque depiction of action/powers.
MOS was a lot better at bein more comicbookish (as it should be).
>>
>>80748388
>>
>>80747817
Practical effects? No.

Man of Steel captured the feeling of super powered beings fighting each other perfectly.

BvS Batman looks like a lot of fun as well.
>>

Practical Effects? Yes*.
>>

I wish they had done it with that style and energy in the movie too.
>>
>>80748708
>Man of Steel captured the feeling of super powered beings fighting each other perfectly.
It would have if they had made the punches look like they were actually connecting instead looking like they were hitting a foot away from their face. Everything else about their fight was perfect except for that one glaring flaw.
>>
>>80747906
Fuck no, and i say that as someone that enjoys AoU
>>
>>80748708

No. Smallville fight was alright, but Metropolis fight was just boring and meandering with excessive destruction.

>>
>>80748969
The Hulkbuster fight was awesome, but all the rest? Kinda weak, i'm still mad by how quickly and uncreatively Ultron was defeated

TWS had a more consistent quality, and arguably the practical effects make the effort more to be appreciated

Man of Steel, and soon BvS.

I dont think any current or upcoming capeshit directors can surpass Snyder in action.
>>
>>80749610

It's got the conspiracy twist elements and the moles and all that, and it's got those intense action sequences that are less in the style of a typical CGI cape film like Spider-Man or Iron Man but more similar to those old school action thriller films

But it's still a Captain America movie

I defended this movie to the death back in 2012 because I anticipated it for years and wanted it to be worth all of my hype.

But looking at it now, what the FUCK was Nolan thinking by having all of those policemen charge, unarmed, into a group of thugs with guns? It looks fucking idiotic as all get-out and you can't even suspend disbelief for it because it doesn't make for a striking shot, visually. It's just DUMB.

Hulkbuster was bigger scale, not a better fight scene.

If scale was all that mattered, then the best fight scene in any film would be the Devastator fight from Revenge of the Fallen.

You know, I think a big part of what makes the Smallville fight work is the sound design, Everything the Kryptonians do has these big THUD sounds behind them.

Overall, though, probably the best depiction of super-beings fighting I've ever seen.

I mean, I enjoy the New York sequence in Avengers, but I've got to admit that the Loki v Thor fight is really, really bad. It's like a shit wrestling match, not two gods going at it.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9jqZQWuuaF8
>>
>>80747817
Overall because of how consistently good all the action is im not sure id say any other cape movie has better action in its entirety. But going scene for scene i think id take the end battle of Ant-Man over any particular fight in winter soldier.

Like the winter soldier, cap street fight was fucking amazing. But I feel like Ant-Man trumps it for how well it pulls off the use of super powers in an interesting and unique way. It manages to weave in both tension, effects, and comedy into the whole thing in spectacular fashion.

Neither would suit batman style action if you ask me. I could maybe see the kind of action in the Raid working in Daredevil or if they put the question in a movie. But not batman.
>>
>>80750843

That looks great. What's your issue with it?

Of the problems with MoS, the CGI isn't one of them.
>>
>>80753539
What style would suit Batman? Muay thai? I'd love to see a Batman film directed by someone like Gareth Williams or Dan Chupong, someone who understands martial arts and action scenes and how to fucking film them
>>
>>80753807
I don't think any particular existing martial art style in and of itself would make sense. When I think of Batman in the comics I think of little bits taken from any and every style designed to look tough and exciting rather than pragmatic and utilitarian. Which from the scene in the trailer for BvS looks like theyre absolutely going for.
>>
>>80753886
I'd go with anything over the "lelz it's hyperrealism n shiet" and what Nolanov has done. Bin Affliq is crazy enough to study a martial art with the pwupa people so he can actually have a nice choreographed fight. I'm just afraid Zack "garbage dumpster" Snyder does not have any idea on how to film action. Just like Nolanski.
>>
Blade
>>
>>80747817
Dredd, but that's about it
>>
>>80753981
Honestly based on the fist fights in Watchmen i'm pretty confident in his ability to film action. Really thats one of snyders high points as far as i'm concerned. He doesn't do what most shit does (particularly nolan) where he includes lots of close up quick cuts intended to disguise the flaws of what would otherwise be seen as shoddy choreography.

Like I remember the prison break scene in Watchmen and thinking the way Niteowl fights in that scene was how I wished Batman fought in The Dark Knight.

>>80754269
>He doesn't do what most shit does (particularly nolan) where he includes lots of close up quick cuts intended to disguise the flaws of what would otherwise be seen as shoddy choreography.

You know what would be interesting? A single, long shot of Batman stealthily clearing a room of armed thugs, so rather than teleporting we get a good feel for his process. Either from his perspective or the perspective of one of the criminals.
>>
>>80754590
That just makes me want a shot where batman leans out from behind a guy and throws an empty soup can into a dark corner so the thug goes over there to see whats up. Then we get to watch batman tip toe silently behind him before throwing a grappling hook up and awkwardly suspending himself upside down from the ceiling behind him.
>>
>>80754542
I can't think of anything wrong with the action in 300.
>>
MoS had the most terrible fights I ever seen - it's like WHOA he is so powerful and he punched that guy, and that guy punched him and... And nothing happens, no bruises, no damage, no nothing. It's like they could punch each other forever. And then Supes just grabs him and breaks his neck. Whoa.
>>
>>80754895
Maybe thinking isn't your strong suit then
>>
>>80754979
Oh I see, you just aren't gonna bother with any actual explanation. Figured as much.
>>
>>80747817
Man of Steel. The only comic book movie where every super action feels like they real weight behind them.
>Faora killing people with super speed
>When people are thrown into things the things and things behind the things break
>Even the mid air weightless fights have proper weight to their movement

Nothing else objectively comes close.

Winter Soldier still suffers (like the rest of the MCU fights) as feeling cartoonish. Sure they're choreographed MUCH better that the other MCU movies, but still feel weightless. With someone like Cap punching/tapping 8 guys and they just drop, super cartoonish.
>>
>>80755030
Oh, shit, you actually were interested in an explanation. Sorry, I often come here with the /tv/ "lel pleb" mindset.
>excessive slow-mo: it gets grating after 5 or 10 minutes. It unnecesariily prolongues fight scenes and it breaks any tension
>fast-mo: hides shitty choreography. combine it with slow-mo and it gets old and ugly really fast
>bad choreography: honestly there was no group fighting once in such an "epic" film, only individual spartans fighting on screen. also, them cutting paths among the gorillion persians in the first 10-15 minutes broke any possible tension
>overuse of CGI backdrops: it was SW prequel-tier. I get using some enhancement but having it all CGI took me out of the film instantly.
>narration: Holy shit Faramir, shut the fuck up. I get what I'm seeing on-screen, I'm not a fucking retard.
>bad pacing: It's either a lot of action or no action at all.

I can go into pet peeves of mine, but that's just ranting and most would not agree with me anyway
>>

>>
>>80755291

And no not because fuck superman or some shit. I just loved the way they pulled this fight off.
>>
Man of Steel. WS suffered from ridiculous amounts of shaky cam and a lot of it felt weightless. The Helicarrier scenes were also boring with the obvious exception of the Winter Soldier vs Captain America fight scenes but all the other ones more than make up for it. Fix those and it would definitely be objectively better but I just feel like MoS was the first really epic scale superhero fight scene we ever got even if it did last basically the last half of the film with brief cuts of actual plot.
>>80747906
I actually enjoyed that movie for what it was but really the only good action scene was the opening and that was just because of the ridiculousness of some it. Hulkbuster was just boring and generic mass destruction.
