Not everyone lives on the coasts, in middle America soccer moms are still a political force to be reckoned with. Just because their shit at using twitter and such doesn't mean they don't call and write e-mail and snail mail. Housewives who have a lot of time on their hands to campaign and vote are very precious to politicians and have their support.
