I sometimes feel like I'm the only non-Scandinavian who read the novels as a kid before I saw the cartoon. Not really /co/ but everyone should read the books if they love the Moomins cartoon. They have some equally weird and twisted but also beautiful and thoughtful stuff in them, probably the strangest being Moominpappa at Sea (or "Moominpappa's mid-life crisis") and Moominvalley in November (or "Everything you love will die")
I just recently started reading Tove Jansson's non-children's fiction and it's really great. She clearly put a lot of herself into her work, you can see a lot of her life in those of her characters. I feel like /co/ would like The True Deceiver because they'd waifu Katri.

Many people prefer the language they watched it as a kid. Finnish dub will always warm my heart but that's because I grew listening these characters. But for a new comer, I would recommend japanese dub.
