Same. It's interesting seeing so many people go through existential crises as they realize that they're now the same out of touch old people they used to deride so intensely.

You reap what you sow, I guess.

>>

Neither was I, in the broad sense. But among the niche of nerds I belonged to I was "hip" or "with it" if that's the terminology we are to use to describe it.

But point being was. I can't even navigate twitter. The youngins have moved past me and most things I was well versed in isn't relevant anymore.
Be it programming practices, anime and games, or comicbooks.

Now I am more like that old guy that watches young people converse, while understanding most of what they are saying but rarely everything. As opposed to actively partaking and leading conversations.

I was never "with it" to begin with. I like to hope that sometime down the road the things I like will finally be considered cool and then my day will come.

I'm going to be 80 years old, the obscure music that I've only seemed to have liked is FINALLY going to be popular, then the youth will recognize my awesome taste and I'll be drowning in 20year old pussy.

Of course it has. I'm in my 30's and I've always been into old-timey shit. I was that kid in the 6th grade questioning other kids my age for liking Power Rangers and wrestling.

It kinda happened when I heard a 7 year old boy say he collects those girly Shopkins figures. Just as useless as the troll and pog craze in the 90s if not moreso.
>>
I can understand the appeal of things children find good more than I can what /co/ finds good about modern things.

I think it's crazy the last three big shows /co/ has been into (not going to start shit but I assume it's pretty clear) are all super undeserving of their literally fanatic devotion.

Their generals threads parade them around as masterworks of interpersonal character development, LORE, and breaking the mold of other cartoons.

Then I watch them and at best they're sort of okay and at worst they're obnoxious legitimate hipster garbage.

It's not even the "stop liking what I don't like" aspect it's the fact I legitimately don't understand the level of devotion to the point where I truly am "out".
>>
I think all of Cartoon Network's shows are cheap-looking unfunny shit that make Hanna-Barbera look like Richard Williams by comparison and I cringe whenever I see someone over the age of 19 talking about any of them. You bet it happened to me.

>This is literally...
Guilty conscience, huh?
>>
>>80735367
Yeah. I can sort of comprehend twitter, but don't see why the hell do all the people who are not journalists or creatives communicating with their audiences us it. I haven't touched kik, instagram, snapchat, vine etc. I'm slightly alarmed by periscope or the insta-streaming thing, I feel that preteens aren't mature and thick-skinned enough to handle a situation where you're begging for acceptance from an audience you can't see with your own face, voice and body. I can sort of fake understanding emojis.

However, I was never really with it, so I don't really care. It's just that I've drifted even further from getting what's going on.

Yeah. Talking to teenage cousins really drives it home and I'm in my late 20s. Time to become uncool.
>>
I've never been with it. I lived with a over-religious grandmother who sheltered me from having fun and a social life. I was the social outcast of my elementary school years cause I was the only black person in the entire school, I had friends for awhile in high school, but I lost them all because of this autistic weeaboo cunt who wouldn't leave me alone just cause I showed an interest in Pokemon. I didn't even bother going to college cause I knew I was just gonna be considered an outcast and shit, so I never really cared about being with it and shit. My grandmother never liked me having friends, fun, going outside, and all that good stuff, so I never really did know what was cool. Hell, I didn't even bother waking up for Saturday morning cartoons. I never got to experience Toonami cause we never had cable TV. Instead, I had to watch religious cartoons and shit and go to church every Sunday,

Nowadays, I have friends on both the internet and in real life, I got a job, my grandmother is dead, I have internet, I get to watch stuff I missed out on as a kid, I can go outside all I want, and I get to experience things old and new. Do I really care about not being with it? No, not really.

Facebook is the one thing that turns me into a cynical crotchety old person but it's usually towards people who are above 25 rather than teens and their fickle trends- some of the shit people share is just too much for me. Why the fuck would you ever tell everybody who knows you so many things that nobody asked for? It's helped me realize I need to be more social and get a bigger circle to even out all the dumb shit I see from high school friends and family.

Other than that I get bae/on fleek/yaaas, kpop, actively keep up with fashion trends and am now more open to pop and hip hop music in general instead of keeping inside the "indie/alternative" bubble that I'm comfortable in. I'm gonna be 24 soon, definitely feel older but am becoming more in tune with what's with it out of necessity because I am NOT gonna be that out of touch, washed up, sad adult venting on facebook until I at least hit middle age it was bad enough being a loser teenager. Already wasted my early 20s wallowing in my self pity and am determined to make the rest of my 20s better than the first half.

pic related is how I feel towards my peers who bitch on fb of all places- get a fucking blog that's what they're for

Somewhat, yes. I'm gradually finding it harder and harder to identify with the general zeitgeist across 4chan, and probably extending to "internet culture" as a whole. It's a vague sense of displacement that I can't quite articulate. I'm sure it has to do with getting older, communities changing as old regulars are replaced with new ones, people getting bitter or excited about things I never had to deal with or have long since made peace with, etc.
>>
I was an early 90's early adapter so pretty much every thing that the average person does with the Internet these days pisses me off. You pay $50 to go to a ball game to spend the entire time on your $700 device that you only ever use to play flash games and browse the internet with your $1000 a year data plan that you only use to keep up-to-date on tweets and youtube videos.

Computers: doing less with more since 1989.

Dunno about where you live, but from what I see, they don't MAKE nice cars anymore. 20th century car looked better and were more resistant. Architecture also got worse, so there go the nice houses.

>>80742619
>Is AT actually meh or is it because I don't get this new style of cartoons?
To be fair, it's actually pretty meh. Too much "DEEPEST LORE" and "lol internet fandoms" injokes, guess it's the kind of "you had to be there to get it" shows.
>>
Sort of. I'm in that liminal state where I'm excited for some things, I can understand why people like other things, but there's a lot out there that completely baffles me. I like Steven Universe, I can understand the Undertale fandom to an extent, but League of Legends and other ASSFAGGOTS? Completely over my head. Video games are the worst for this, I think. I grew up with TechTV and X Play and Attack of the Show. I have pretty much zero interest in Twitch. The Souls and Assassin's Creed games seem like entirely too much of a time investment; if I want a sprawling world, I'll pick up an FF game or something, not more often than once a year. I go onto /v/ nowadays, and between the game selection and transparent redpilling and just general asshattery, I don't recognize the place. And I still have screen grabs of the E3 threads I spent so much time on.

It's weird to think that FFXV is coming out in such a different environment from what the one it was announced in was. It occurs to me that there are people half my age who are excited for it for completely different reasons than I am.

>>
>>80752155
I can relate to most of this post so hard, with the exception of Souls games. They're one of the only modern games I can get behind the hype of.

Outside of that? It seems like a completely different board from the one I grew fond of. /co/ has changed a lot too, but I can at least catch glimpses of why I started coming around here regularly. I think it makes sense that the general vibe of /v/ would go through such the quickest changes too, since I suspect it attracts a younger crowd.

I think another big thing is that there doesn't seem to be nearly as much OC these days. All I ever see are layers of meta-memeing with Pepes and tfw guy. Maybe some cheesecake (which is usually just reposts from someone's Tumblr). Has that all just become super-condensed in artfag generals?

>>80752391
God, I really wish I had the context for an objective perspective of the 90s. But maybe looking for an "objective" view of an entire decade is a farce to begin with.
>>
>>80742879
I think the worst thing about memes rapidly spreading across the internet is that most people seem too bitter and paranoid to get sincerely creative/excited about inside internet community jokes. The only "safe" way to meme is to be as masturbatory and ironic as possible with it, like /s4s/ (which, too be fair, is still kind of amusing).

Either way, it's sad to see people not enjoying a thing anymore because they don't like the way other people are enjoying it. I get that a lot of memes are meant to be ways of celebrating familiarity with a specific community, but nobody really has "ownership" of them.
>>
I think it happened a while ago. I grew up, got the job, got the girl, and the house, had the kid. I'm so out of touch with what's hip these days I couldn't even list to you the things that I don't understand.

I think it happened after a lot of the old cartoon network shows died off and got replaced. Spongebob is different now, can't put my finger on it, maybe it is nostalgia goggles. I can't say definitively when it happened, but I was probably like 13 or 14, and it's kind of what spurred me into using the internet more, with my newfound DSL. It's the combination of shit I like going away with awful stuff replacing it, and having google to see whatever I want.

Really reminds me of Interview with the Vampire where most vampires eventually kill themselves because the world changes and everything they love slowly rots and fades away. I believe everyone here see's it in a mild fashion as shows and music come into and go out of style.
>>
Nope. As long as I don't fall into the pit of bitterness and unwarranted feeling of supremacy or the pit of apathy and complacency like everyone else I'm good.
>>
Probably.

But I don't know, because I don't care.

Yes, when I suddenly wanted to punch anyone younger than me in the mouth. I noticed a long time ago.
>>
>>80735367
Not really. I enjoyed a lot of things that people on 4chan complain about all the time. Steven Universe and Life is Strange being a few examples. Doesn't change that some of my favorite games are Deus Ex or Quake 3 or that I can't still enjoy Justice League, Gargoyles, Daria, or Aeon Flux.

I like newer artists like Joey Bada$$, Earl Sweatshirt, and Fetty Wap but I still like guys like Black Thought, Ghostface Killah, and Big L.

The only things I don't like but tolerate are people using words like bae or fleek and watching let's plays.

It's funny because "Interview With A Vampire" was the source of everything that made vampires not so cool anymore.
>>
>>80758029
How so? The book was kind of bad in my opinion since Louis was a fucking insufferable whiner. Lestat was more entertaining. I like the vampire protagonists, more interesting than Dracula where they spend most of their time out of sight. I thought it was Twilight and the rest of those awful books that ruined it, though that's what I think, perhaps not what's true.

We're on a website that launched an organized social movement/protest/shit-slinging contest because people weren't giving their video games reviews they agreed with. People don't often come to 4chan to complain about matters of substance.

And I don't get the impression that >>80755260 is super bitter about where they are in life. Just remarking that they're not in touch with pop culture as much these days.

>Let's play
Ok you should just fucking kill your self at this point for TOLERATING that
>>
well i lost part of my memory so i guess it did

maybe i can get back at it
>>
>>80758601
I don't enjoy them and have never watched one for more than a few minutes but if other people like them, I'm not gonna tell them they shouldn't enjoy it.

Outstanding.

It happened two me two years ago when I realized that this "transgender" thing was only going to get worse.
>>
>>80758601
Do they really upset you that much, or are you just seeing how far you can push a hyperbole?
>>
>>80752639
That color is fucking bomb.

As soon as I saw all this identity politics bullshit and shit like genderqueer and MtF lesbians and whatever else there is now I instantly became old. I don't understand any of it and I very much don't want to.

Interview, Queen of the Damned and Memnoch were actually really bad. Louis a bitch and whines about largely imaginary problems since he can't find meaning in his life. Queen of the damned has the worst storytelling I've ever seen. Memnoch I just didn't care about the subject matter.

Tale of the Body Thief was alright, even though it was less vampire than the other books. Lestat wanted to be human again only to realize that he doesn't like it that much. Favorite so far was Armand's book.

>>80760851
Identity politics needs to go into the trash. I'm tired of these retard soapbox tumblrtards with nothing better to do bitch and moan about how oppressed they are when they live in the richest countries in the fucking world, living better than at least 60% of all people and 99% of all people who've ever lived, with the best medicine, abundant food and the most peaceful period of human history.

Their oppression and "problems" are entirely imaginary, and the fact that they still manage to blame other people is the most single disgusting thing I've ever seen. Victim complex on a whole new level.

I think it happened when I was playing WoW. I ended up quitting the game the same day I realized that it wasn't a game anymore, it was me coming home and working a second job for no money.

That realization made me realize how much I hate the MMO genre, since I could spend my time getting ahead in real life instead of not having fun trying to do the same thing in WoW. I think MMOs just became too real for me to continue after that point.

Now I only play games to have fun, even though my definition of fun is feeding a superiority complex and sucking the fun out of it for other people.
>>
>>80760851
except that isn't a case of 'getting it', it's a case of opposing bullshit which leaves nothing but bitching and whining in its wake
>>
>>80762557
I'm sure they mean boo not beau.

Also, first time I've seen a Beano reaction image
>>
>>80762766
well I know that, and it's not like beau is even used any more aside from maybe upper middle class southern US people... It's just that they sound the same and one of them somehow comes off not sounding retarded.

Isn't beau pronounced the same as in beauty? I mean, that's what it means. With a Y sound.

Boo only has an oo sound.
>>
>>80762907
'eau' in French is pronounced as an 'o'
>>
>>80762907
No, I'm pretty sure it's pronounced like B-Oh, since like >>80763010 says, it's French origin since the places were originally French colonies and infested with Creole, probably to this day.
>>
>>80762557
Beau is short for beautiful. Bae is short for baby. Different connotation.

>Social inequalities can't exist in modern wealthy countries because people are starving in Africa.

Everything is relative. I agree that it's good to have some perspective before getting upset over something. Not crying over spilled milk, etc. But challenging people to reasonably raise their for standards of living and social norms isn't a bad thing, even if they're already exponentially better than other parts of the world.
