Will an animation studio ever make another photorealistic film?
No because they should just hire actors. It avoids the cost and skill required to avoid the uncanny valley.

Why does this movie look so much like Mass Effect
>>80712377
This.
Beowulf came out 6 years later.

This looked a lot better in 2001 than it does now.

Mass Effect hacks admitted to draw inspiration from Spirits Within during ME3's development.
Don't know how much did it inspire first two, but by the time they were making ME3 only Bioware's hacks were left.
Is Tintin just cartoony enough to not qualify?

If the characters are photorealistic human just like FFSW or this >>80713089 there is no point in making the movie CG.
If however one plays around with proportions to make the characters photorealistics and yet stylized like >>80713214 or >>80714729 then I'm all for it. Tintin was great.

>Model Rachel Bernstein (uncredited) was the body double for Angelina Jolie in the film's nude scenes.
Isn't that basically what Avatar is?
>>80715735
No, in Avatar only the blue monkeys were CGI, everyone else was real actors being filmed.

It's difficult to stress just how big of a failure Spirits Within was.
Maybe, someday in a distant future we'll see an upsurge of photo realistic. But it's 15 years later and Spirits' Within is still the poster child of massive cinematic flops.
