Preplanned production prior the the spiderman rights being released. By rights they still have spider man rights but there was an agreement deal in process after the failure of the most recent spider man movie.

Venom was still under contract when production went into process. Therefore, they have venom still.

Sony has everything Spider-man in terms of a live-action movie. Sony is just sharing Spider-Man with Marvel for MCU while still keeping creative control. Sony can still make Sinister Six or even a Superior Foes movie if they feel like it as long as they follow the terms and conditions of the original deal. As far as I know the new deal only involved sharing for MCU and did not change previous deals

You could literally start with Flash Venom and it might actually work better with Eddie in there as a sort of recovering addict warning him about the dangers of the symbiote, becoming Anti-Venom in the sequel.

Doing Flash wouldn't make any sense, they're more likely to go with Brock because they can develop him solely without depending on Spider-Man.

The Symbiote needs to be off of spider-man to be Venom, so they have to explain that which would need its own movie. Then do venom origin or whatever. Or else its gonna be SM3/ASM2 all over again where they are gonna end up cramming multiple plots into one movie resulting in a mess

Supposedly Marvel is advising them on things so as to keep the Sony produced Spider-Films in line with the MCU but Sony is free to do what they want and ignore any input Marvel wants to give them.

Which would seem like a dumb move but then again just look at Sony's cinematic output over the past few years.
