i think it's weird how robot chicken makes molds of action figures and fills them with plasticine clay instead of using the figures. it's.. weird. it allows for flexibility I guess

It remains distinct from "just fucking cgi" because the animators still have to use their hands and work with real sets, models, and lights to get the result they want. Printing faces let's them plan out subtle face acting in advance, which makes all their other work more focused and effective.
