I'm really disappointed with how bad Beto's stuff gets with this, but at the same time I find it funny how much it's like Clarmont's X-Men with a little more sex. I mean it's basically a fetishy soap-opera where everything gets watered down into a "who's sleeping with who" deal. There are still some character development here and there, but who's sleeping with who becomes the main focus.
I like Clarmont's X-Men and it's still entertaining, but I just find it all kinda sad after reading the old Love and Rockets sketchbooks and seeing some of the plans that Beto never worked in. I mean Fritzi was originally planned to be a reincarnated version of her grandmother and it was gonna be revealed that Gorgo was her grandfather and that's why he protects the family. However instead of telling Gorgo's love story or any of that, Fritzi is just a therapist who sleeps with almost all her patients and internalizes all her problems and never develops anywhere from that. This shit is disappointing.

Nah this is just Beto's later stuff. Like his New Love and Rocket's stuff. His old stuff like the original Heartbreak Soup and Palomar stories are all about the history of a single town and jump around to different bits in time to show you how these people age and develop. His early non Palomar stories are good too, it's just the stuff he's doing now.

No yeah this is after Beto hit his prime, I don't know what he's trying to do here, venus seemed like he was trying to make comics for kids like Jaime does in his stories about little Maggie, but then it just devolves into weird fetishism. He tries to salvage it by making it about Venus dealing with it and being disgusted by her mother, but he never focuses on that enough for it to work.
L&R doesn't have the meaning of life, but when the bros were on their game they do some really good character work. Though there are always some real weird silly elements throughout the series like a Joan Rivers/Liza Minnelli type star who's secretly into adult baby play. You also gotta read some of them in order, there used to be a guide for it but Fanta seems to have deleted that page when they redid their site.
