less goofy episodes because Finn has matured. He's still enthusiastic about adventuring but the wild, "charge in blindly" style he used to do has changed to a more calm and introspective look on his problems.
It's still a pretty comfy show.

They lost momentum.
The silly adventure episodes got drowned out by shallow
walkabouts.
The love triangle angle got scrapped and while Sugar attempted to inject something else they completely fucked it up and now Finn has nothing relation-wise for the future.
Instead they pander to lesbians with will they won't they nonsense that has no reason to not be official anymore after Clarence Korra and Steven Universe beat them to the punch so it comes off as shallow baiting.
The points they try to have some sort of deep lore get fucked up and can never stick the landing, and when they get a new idea they quickly scurry back to status quo safe space.
The series needs to have more sticking mix-ups or some endgame planned for this rather than the hodgepodge it is. Someone to sit down, cap all the deep lore shit now and start tying up threads for endgame. Adventure Time cannot be allowed to Simpsons Zombify if it wants to be remembered. It doesn't get that forgiveness of the 'good seasons' when it tries to have running points rather than comedic situations.
And they need to revive best ship to rustle the lesbians into never shutting up about their show, and pull attention from the old fans back to AT for the endgame.

It took them several hundred years to figure out what to do with marceline and PB saying magic isn't real was dumb as fuck too

After season 3 adventure time went downhill. Their focus on Finns relationships killed it so hard, it should have just been a boy and his magic dog going on wacky adventures
