Which origin would you use to turn someone around who thinks superman is boring and shit?

Neal Adams current comic
American Alien

If they cannot appreciate the character, it is not worth trying.
People will believe what they want to. It all come down to their ideals.
>>80484315
>If they cannot appreciate the character, it is not worth trying.
Yeah generally it seems the people who hate Superman do so for the exact reasons that other people love him
How the fuck can someone draw superman's face from All Seasons and think "yeah, this looks fine"
>>80484356
The Fan
>I love Superman. He uses his powers to make the world a better place, and respects humanity's right to rule itself.
The Hater
>Fuck Superman. He's weak against a rock, and doesn't have the balls to just take over the world to make it right.
>>80484185
Superman For All Seasons is great, but I think it'd reinforce the opposite in someone who already thinks he's too much of a goody-two-shoes Boy Scout.
I'd go with Secret Identity actually, to emphasize why the ideal of Superman is important, even if it's just an ideal, or a story.
>>80484374
I thought it looked weird at first, but I think Sale's artwork is fucking perfect for that story.
>>80485747
when does secret identity emphasize anything
seriously nothing sticks out in that book
>superman origin stories
Superman became a crappy character BECAUSE every writer began to focus too much on his origin and all of the things resultant of that.
>>80486350
only time this is true is secret origin and birthright after dc decided to make it canon
man of steel was very basic left alot of room for other writers and new52 doesnt even have an origin series
>>80485988
I think it does Jonathan-Clark relationship really well.
>>80484374
It looks odd at first glance and it gets used as reaction images a lot, but on the other hand, I think it really suits the story.
There's a humble simplicity to it.
>>80487323
>New52 doesn't even have an origin series
Well, it does. It just skips all the parts that normally goes into an origin story and gets right to the Superman part.
>>80484185
Superman for all seasons is more of a coming of age story then a proper origin.

Yeah, it's sort of like Quitely's artwork in that the faces look weird but all the composition and detail in the panels looks AMAZING. I love Tim Sale's Smallville.
If the guy really hates Superman, you ease him into it with Red Son, then hit him with dat semi gritty Birthright and Morrion Action two punch, maybe after give him some more action oriented stories like Unchained, Doomed or Death and Return and after he gets a sense and love for the character, wrap it up and solidify that love with the undeniably great All Star.
Johns' Supes is too Donner for the Superhaters out there, All Season and Secret Identity play too much of the "goody two shoes" that annoy casuals.
>>80487561
My only issue with Quitely's face is when the character is directly facing "the camera," so to speak.
It looks fine if they're off to the side and looking via the side of their face.

I mean, my point is that focusing on his origin -- "he's an ALIEN," "he's KRYPTONIAN!", "the kryptonians were SO SMART and GODLIKE" -- makes the writers care too much about Superman represents instead of what he does.
What the modern Superman does is not interesting. He's an overpowered, boring goody-two-shoes because all he does is win and then say, "But I can't really interfere...I just have to show you how to be good, because I'm such a great person!"
Blah.
Superman used to be a badass adventurer who changed the world for the better. He wasn't constantly in a powerwanking contest: he just did awesome things. And all of this came from a fairly normal origin of, "I was raised by loving parents who taught me to be good but to hide my powers until I got older. If it weren't for the fact that I had powers, I would be an good-hearted American citizen."
And I suppose that's really my issue. Superman origin stories (and the way that Superman is written in modern comics) focus WAY TOO MUCH on his "otherness". But really, that "otherness" is as big a deal as an immigrant's otherness or a visa worker's otherness. Sure, it defines a big part of them, but pound-for-pound, the whole point of him being an American superhero is that it shouldn't matter.

>Superman used to be a badass adventurer who changed the world for the better
Superman wants to be hardcore and save the world but his Batmom won't let him
>>80493155
Whatever happened to the hamster?
>>80484185
Either Birthright or For All Seasons
>>80487533
New 52 made Superman an actual interesting character
>>80493155
Is this shooped to make everyone's eyes googly or did that actually get printed that way?
>>80495807
Can't unsee.
>>80495807
fuck, didn't notice this
Birthright.
Secret Identity for casuals or Timmfags.
Earth One for edgelords and people under 15
>>80495807
It's one of the massive flaws in how Rags Morales draws people.
The other flaw is EVERYTHING ELSE FUCK.
>>80484185
Man of Steel has Batman in it and awesome ass 80's Lois, so Man of Steel.
>>80493155
...Did they really just use same artwork panel 3 times?
>>80496584
It's not as bad as Alias, there's a two page spread that's the same column six times
>>80495291
He gave it to Lois' niece.
>>80493155
also
>using Wally's belt design
>>80484185
Secret Identity
>>80496675
>not an origin story for superman
yes I get its about the spirit of superman but stop sucking this stories dick
>>80484185
I still prefer "Man of Steel," Byrne hate be damned, but that's partially because it was the origin in place for the bulk of the time I was collecting comics.
>>80485685
Miracleman was great!
>>80484185
Not Birthright.
>>80484263
Fuck off Max.
>>80484185
New 52 origin.
>>80499676
So morrisons run?
>all these people getting secret identity mixed up with secret origin
>>80484185
All the origins are boring but Birthright and Earth One are the most modern and tv/movie like.
