And despite how... not great the movies were, I can't help but find the designs cute, especially the Chipettes.
'83 and '61. I can't remember if my family had taped a TV airing or if we bought a VCR tape of it, but I definitely remember seeing an episode where the '83 Chipmunks met the '61 Chipmunks. I think that was my first taste of time travel/time fuckery, and it was so goddamn cool.

2015 versions look more like monkeys. If it wasn't for the stripe down their weird fur-less heads, I wouldn't even have guessed they were supposed to be animals.
I didn't realize 2007 had precedent, but it is a deliberate update of 1958. The harelips, beady eyes and squat lower bodies are all there.
Unfortunately, 1958 is shit-ugly and so is 2007.
