She's a great character, very well rounded with a variety of flaws but also a variety of likable and sometimes even lovable qualities. So much better than your standard "prudish cleanfreak" archetype, she has actual depth and breadth to her.
But I think the show gives her too many episodes and too much screentime. There are so many "Pearl episodes" compared to any other character (besides Steven himself), especially the other two Crystal Gems. I understand why, now: it's because the writers figured out that she can be a good foil to EVERY other character. You can drum up some believable rapport / drama between Pearl and every other character, easy, so there's a lot of episodes dedicated to just that. Steven and Pearl do X, Garnet and Pearl do Y, it feels like half the episodes. Meanwhile, it's much harder to create entertaining drama between, say for example, Amethyst and Garnet. Garnet doesn't actively disapprove of Amethyst because she's more patient and wise than Pearl, but Garnet's also so impartial that they don't have much fun dialogue. Also, Pearl's VA is the best singer in the cast (which is really saying something, Garnet, Steven and Ameth are all excellent but Pearl's broadway VA is just that good), so the writers want to give her more songs.
So yea, I understand why Pearl is so front and center in the show, but I don't excuse it. They could try harder to find ways to give say, Greg and Garnet better dialogue, and do more episodes where the group as a whole interact more like in Watermelon Steven and The Test. Right now there's just way too many "Pearl and X do stuff" episodes and they get all the best songs.

Because the failure had nothing to do with Sardonyx, it had to do with the tower being rebuilt after they form Sardonyx. The option is irrelevant as far as Garnet knew because she didn't know Pearl was the one rebuilding it. Because she trusted her. Which is why what Pearl did was so reprehensible.

The first and second times, the tower was gently dismantled into maybe 20 large intact slabs that could be assembled in a matter of minutes with no apparent new material, and just left there on the ground.
Is that the best they could do? Clearly using Sardonyx was not a viable option. You say the problem was that it got rebuilt, but it was completely Garnet's choice to leave all the pieces there to be rebuilt in the first place. Why not at least bring one piece back to the temple and hide it?
