I loved it a lot more than the simplified "CalArts" style.
Pearl was hideous and Steven was kind of gross looking, but I think everyone else looked cool, especially Lars.
Beyond that the backgrounds were weird, sort of alien looking, kind of cool but more odd at the same time. Not really sure how I felt on em.
I remember the monster they fought being kind of lame.
I also really liked how Amethyst seemed to have an affinity for animals and wish that had made it into the show proper.

The designs of Pearl and Steven are shit, the temple has more of a shack than the final beach house, and they seem to be right in town instead of removed.
I much prefer the surreal pastel landscapes and less busy Gem designs.
Also Garnet's hair was catastrophe.

The show would be more hated than now ! because really the Tumblr chara-design is more obvious on the pilot, this is too much sincerely, i prefer the actual designs even i don't like this show.

I prefer it vastly to the current style and most other modern cartoon styles.
Pearl and Steven needed design tweaks(perhaps closer to their current designs) but otherwise everyone looked fine. In fact, one of the proto-Pearl designs prior to the series release looked perfect for this style.

Well the animation was directed by Genndy Tartakovsky so I'm sure since he was attaching his name to it he wanted Korea to make it look as good as possible

I use to like it but the actual show's style has really grown on me. If there's any show where the pilot still looks better to me it's Bee and Puppy Cat, such wasted potential.

I vastly preferred the pilot art at first, but in retrospect, this was because the first screenshot we saw of the final designs was pic related. The final designs' strong points are that they look good in motion, the brighter color scheme, and the backgrounds. This screenshot didn't really show off any of that.
Also, Pearl didn't start looking good until around maybe Arcade Mania onward. This is a terrible picture of her. I think that's what turned me off most about the newer designs.
I hated the original art style. It's amazing to me that people were upset when they changed it.

I really love pilot Amethyst, but nearly everything else was improved in the actual show. The pilot also had a few shots with some really nice composition and color schemes, though things like that generally wouldn't work in the long run as they'd likely come off as too busy or would contrast too heavily with scenes that don't require such detail.

The weird atmosphere, more fluid animation, surreal coloring and less cutesy designs work really well together. It definitely doesn't fit what the show has become, though.I'd prefer the show to be in the style of the pilot, but with pilot Steven replaced by show Steven.

True. One thing we have to remember about the show's development was that it was originally meant to be a half-hour, more action oriented show in the vein of Avatar or SBT. And the pilot, I think, reflects a sort of awkward transition period after they realised that they wouldn't be able to do that but before they really had a grip on what the show should be within the time and money constraints they were given.

People watched SU initially because they could wank off to;waifu these girls from the backwater of 80s. Also, the warm and non-threatening color palette. Not the poor attempt of lel lore and especially not the action. Any cryfest or "drama" that Sugar wanted using these designs would absolutely look fucking retarded.
No way any of these ugly abominations, including Steven, would be appealing to anyone other than special snowflakes from tumblr and hipsters off /co/ . Sugar knew that and so made them more pleasing to the eyes while keeping parts of their aesthetic.
