I think this guy has potential to be a great Superman adversary. I hope they use him well in more stories. IMO, this guy has potential to be a top 5 Supes opponent.

What did you guys think of Ulysses?
>>

Who?
>>
>>79766636
Is that Franklin Richards?

What is Franklin doing in the DC Universe?

Franklin go home this isn't your universe, it's over there.

Remember that time Galactus showed up in the DC universe and owned Darkseid's shit even when he had his whole world backing him up?
>>

you know those Richard boys. their universe is never enough for them.

Yet another evil Superman.

I skipped the Romita jr arc, since I can't stand his art, takes me out of the story every time

Not a big Superman fan OP.

Sell me on this character.

Kinda makes sense, since Galactus could just eat said planet anyway. But yeah, what >>79766911
said.
>>
>>79766911
Yeah but Galactus being able to beat Darksied is pretty plausible, and it was a oneshot instead of some event thing.

Also despite losing Darkseid got some props in that he didn't get his planet eaten since it was a 'dead world' and would give Galactus no nourishment, the whole reason Big G was attacking him in the first place was because the New Gods had hidden their own world from the devourer so he would wipe out their enemy instead, and Darkseid got to be the bigger man in not revealing this ruse when he discovered it at the end of the story because he states will one day conquer the New Gods himself.

Same. Moment we hit dead end, introduce extremist Superman expy with tragic backstory. I simply knew Ulysses will be revealed as villain.

at this point what's the appeal of JRjr? Is he just one of those artists who gets work because he meets deadlines?

He's a large flying individual who punches guys
>>
>>79767696
His dad's work bought him infinite good faith for the rest of time.
>>
>>79767696
He's one of those artists that were very good and made a name for himself and now still gets work because that name is recognized and people mostly have no taste. He's just one of the many artists that drew in a different period and the digital inking and coloring are just killing their pencils(see also Kevin Maguire)
>>
What's the deal with the "new power" Clark gained in that arc anyways? Is it just an upgrade to his energy projection beyond heat vision or can he only do those explosions or what?
>>
>>79767765
Its Super Kryptonian God

Next it will be revealed he's mastered it to the point he can go Super Kryptonian God Super Kryptonian

I don't think we know yet, they haven't talked about it at all. I guess it's more the former as we've seen Supergirl do other stuff.

>Yet another superpowered punchbag
I hated, it seems that's the only fucking thing DC knows how to do with superman nowadays. I'm absolutely tired of this shit.
>>
>>79767696

His art on Daredevil was amazing. I still like his current stuff, though it is not in the same class as his early work. Plus, like you said, he's part of the elite "18 issues a year" club (along with Mark Bagley), which is a noteworthy achievement, especially in today's comics.

His design looks like an intern at SHIELD who didn't manage to put on his whole uniform.
>>
>>79766957
He's not an evil Superman, they don't even have the same powers or anything. It's just thematically, they are similar in origin.
>>
He looks too stupid. who the hell thought Super-Fabio was a good idea?

Oh great what did we do now? Was it being human? Because we do that a lot.
>>
>>79771704
He basically just rounds up millions of humans to make his adopted world survive.
>>
>>79771744
Did he take them from countries that are suffering from over populations?
>>
Meh, he was forgettable. I enjoyed the story though since i like plots where the hostile aliens pretend to be good at first. like that show V for example. so much better than just hurr we're here to conquer you humans!
>>
>>79771704
I love it when when the aliens/extradimensional beings/supernaturals start potificating on the evils of man

the faces are especially shit

>>79767765
Clark pushed himself harder than he has ever before with heat vision. That allowed him to accidentally realize another form/power he had. Makes sense thematically, as he is a solar battery, so allowing him to release it all at once is plausible. Though imo it isn't that great of a power, the drawback is kinda big, and heat vision combined with his other powers are just as effective.
>>
>>79766858

>ponytail
>no beard

What the fuck are you even on about
>>
He and Clark had a good bromance, I don't know if I like him as a straight up villain though.
>>
>>79767765
It's just heat vision depleting every solar cell in the body. They explained this in the book. It doesn't have any greater meaning besides being another option, he can still do normal heat vision if he wanted.

>>

Nah. Galactus couldn't feast on Apokalips. It was already dead.

Darkseid decided to fight him because it would be an interesting diversion.

He's an old industry vet, having worked on comics for almost forty years now, since 1978. His dad worked on Marvel when it was still in the Lee/Kirby era. He gets things in on time and he can take on a ton of side-projects. And, from what I've heard, he's a fairly personable guy, so people in the industry like him. Plus, he's got an INSANE level of brand loyalty. He stuck with Marvel or Marvel's other brands for over thirty-five years, without glancing at DC's comics. Knowing that it's very hard to poach him has given him a lot of leeway with publishers.

If you went back to the 80s, his work on X-Men or Iron Man would be almost unrecognizable, though you could see his modern style poking through here and there. In the 90s and early 2000s, most of his work was slowly shifting away from his father's style to his current style, but it was still good. I still love his interpretation of Shocker as a large, heavily-padded fucker who's as big as a linebacker. His art didn't really start to suck until the switch to digital inking, though you could tell that it was degrading in quality later in his Spider-Man runs and in his Thor run.

A competent inker could probably breathe fresh life into his art, but it might be too late. He's a relic of the past, and it's sad, because in his heyday he was amazing.

The biggest problems I have with him are his massive sameface and the way he draws the same poses over and over. He's got the same people crouching in pain pose now that he's been using since he drew Rachel Summers in the 1980s. Thor, in his v2 run, flew in some of the same poses as Sentry did in WWH. And he's nearly as bad with faces now as Steve Dillon and Greg Land are, it's just that he has six or seven different faces and expressions compared to their two or three.
>>
>>79778959
No, he decided to fight him because his pride as master of Apokalips wouldn't let someone march on his turf unopposed, then he lost the fight.
>>
>>79775279
>>79773847
Yeah but like could he fire beams out of his hands or something if he tried? I wasn't sure if it just turned into standard energy projection rather then just with his eyes.
>>
>>79767253
>Doesn't makes sense, since Galactus would get his purple ass handed to him by a universal God.

A small mind is easily filled with marvelshit
>>
>>79766636
I enjoyed him and the entire arc. I thought it was neat that his biological parents were still alive and that he had aconnection with them. Like Superman his priorities were with adopted home instead of his biological one.

He tried doing a middle ground approach with Superman but it ended the destruction of his planet.

I hope the Ulysses comes back and isn't forgtten
>>
>>79766957
He wasn't really evil so much as heavily misguided, he was also more of an energy supes than exactly like supes. Also him and supes teaming up felt nice to me.
