It's just making fun of how movie titles are set up, the first one is an arthouse oscarbait film, the second one is a comedy, and the third one is a horror or action flick.
>>
>>79713866

Dermot Mulroney and Dylan McDermott were two 90's generic leading men with similar names who starred in a bunch of forgettable movies that probably had equally similar generic drama titles.
>>
>>79713889
The ketchup/catsup one is easy enough to understand...Mr Burns doesn't understand how to buy groceries/function in real life

Knifey/spoony was just kind of "lol, so random." (I get that "THIS is a knife" was a Crocodile Dundee spoof, but knifey spoony being a game was just weird.)

It's just a joke about how needlessly confusing it has to have two similar but different names for the same product. To a cultural outsider like Burns it would make no sense.

No, someone intentionally rewrote that line to "non-Brazilian", but nobody on the staff remembers who it was (or really understands why they did it in the first place). They just left it in because they thought it was funny-sounding despite not getting the joke.

The original joke in that cartoon is a person misusing a word, either to sound smarter or because they just dont know. In this case it's calling something "Kafkaesque" when it is so not Kafkaesque.

But Andy doesn't understand humor so he thinks it's funny that she's touching the meat.

>>79715587

It isn't, though. There's plenty of those jokes in the episode, but that isn't one.

The joke is a reference to Crocodile Dundee, in which one guy pulls out a knife and threatens someone, and the other guy says "That's not a knife. THIS is a knife" and pulls out a bigger one.

The Simpsons joke simply has a man quote the movie, pull out a spoon (because misidentification of something as common as a spoon is funny), and then have his mistake pointed out to him.

His insistence it is a game can be read in two ways:
A) Knifey-spoony is a real game, and we laugh at Australia being weird again.
B) Knifey-spoony is the man's laughably bad attempt to hide his mistake.

Because it is a throwaway joke, we can't assume either is the "real" reason, but both interpretations are valid and funny.

It's not a joke.
The place is called Sneed's Feed and Seed. It used to be owned by Chuck, which would have made it Chuck' s Feed and Seed.

You can imply that there's a rhyming scheme that must stay intact, but that doesn't make it so. There's no logical reason for it to be called Chuck's Fuck and Suck, especially when it's a feed and seed store.

It's almost borderline theft and degradation of the idea, take something that had actual substance from the 70s/80s and just make it into funny non-sequiter word, comedy gold.

Family Guy is literally reaching backward in time and poisoning pop culture.

The Simpsons did the same thing but with media from before your time. Go listen to the commentaries, they are so fucking proud of it, "we got THIS scene from this movie" and "the joke is from this movie we like". Nearly every joke and scene is just copied from something else.
>>
>>79719216
Theres nothing to understand. They're cows, they have tools. Its not very funny.
The meta commentary of people reading things into it that don't exist is pretty funny.
So its more performance art.
>>
>>79719134

It's just an inside joke among Simpson's writers that they would have stores that rhyme or sound similar, like "Howard's Flowers". It doesn't make sense for us because it's just something the writers put in there for fun.

>>
>>79719134
The episode never said it was ever actually called Fuck and Suck, obviously, and realistically it probably was just a feed and seed place.

But by choosing "Chuck" as the former owner's name, the viewer is still meant to THINK of that regardless of what the place really used to be. They wouldn't even have the "formerly Chuck's" there otherwise.

I understand the thought process behind the joke perfectly. but again:
1-Just because something is implied, doesn't make it so. We're supposed to think it was Fuck and Suck, but there's absolutely no reason for that to be the case, other than the writers want you to think that. Which again, the whole premise falls apart if you just take a second to look at it.

2-Even taking it as a joke, it's not funny. "OOOOOHHHH Fuck and suck! They said bad words! HEHEHEHEHE! Big deal. It's swear words. What are you, 5 years old or something? I bet you die laughing when somebody farts.
>>

the point is that kafkaesque subjects are desperately seeking traits with which to identify, and they dont understand the call of the other. the kafkaesque subject is always stuck between systems, trapped by the other as a product of their desire, hence why it's 'funny' to laugh at the joke- precisely because you're not supposed to get it there is an injunction to laugh.

It's not a joke that is meant to be analyzed. It's meant to be part of an impulsive, spur-of-the-moment brain reaction. "Sneed's Feeds and Seeds. Formerly Chuck's Fucks and Sucks. Oh, wait, I get it!"

Brock seems like an expert on masturbation. The gay community coined the sex term so I still say it's a gay move

Why do you assume that the previous owner of a building used it for the same purpose? The last guy didn't have to sell Feed & Seed even though it was the same building.

Larson always remarks that his biggest regret with this comic was making most of the tools shapeless and confusing but making one of them look like a saw. That one adds a whole layer of "wait, are the others supposed to be something? Am I missing something?"

>There's no logical reason for it to be called Chuck's Fuck and Suck, especially when it's a feed and seed store.

You do realize that the punchline of most jokes are not derived from stating the most logical response, right? The unexpected play on words and often times the ridiculous image they conjure is what makes the joke.

Part of why the "Why did the chicken cross the road? " joke works is because the punchline, "To get to the other side" is so totally the logical answer. It subverts the fact that jokes usually do not have logical answers .

this is probably the most infuriating /co/ meme, I'm positive everyone who says they don't get it is trolling but for some reason it still makes me mad every time.

The joke still only makes sense in Larson's head. This happens all the time. People tell jokes that are only funny to them.

the chicken joke is that the chicken got hit by a car and passed on to the other side

The show was always intended for adult audiences, not teens. Of course it would reference stuff from the 80's. That's a period that most adults of the time had lived through.

Can you explain this to me?

The joke was the Crocodile Dundee "That's not a knife, THIS is a knife," has been done to death so they subverted it where the guy literally didn't have a knife. So not only was that not a knife but neither was this.

"Knifey spoony" was to give the bit a button. They could've gone with, "Crickey! Then where's me knife?" but the route they went with is inherently funnier because it makes no sense and also makes a lot of sense at the same time.

>still waters run deep
Still waters run deep is a proverb of Latin origin now commonly taken to mean that a placid exterior hides a passionate or subtle nature. Formerly it also carried the warning that silent people are dangerous, as in Caesar's summing up of Cassius in William Shakespeare's play Julius Caesar

He painted his trashy pool like a dragster and notes that it looks like a fast car but it isn't moving. He then ties that into an old saying to sound profound but being that it doesn't really apply in the situation, it just shows that Carl is dumb and therefore we laugh at him.

Kafkaesque originates from the artist Franz Kafka, who was know for doing very crazy and abstract pieces of art and writing that would usually invoke powerful emotions of discuse and grossness.

The woman is misusing the word by thinking that a butcher shop that sells huncks of flesh is something that would be in the same vien as a work of Kafka. She is miss using the word by confusing the subject as something much deeper than what is shown.

The joke is that cows don't need tools, they are cows, so if a cow where to make tools this is what they look like.

The reason is joke falls apart is mainly that one of the tools looks like a real tool.
