Also, a lot of the voice acting seems REALLY off. Kingsley and Elba sound alright but Walken, Murray, etc seem really out of place.

I am excited for this movie. But at the same time I am thinking that if I was a little kid, and the same age I was when I first saw Disney's cartoon. I would have probably been scared.
It's nothing to me now, but from a kid's perspective I imagine that this rendition is pretty damn scary. The whole jungle really is dreary, and the beasts are legitimately intimidating and frightening.
I am kind of surprised. I wonder if there will be parents who will spontaneously go see it with their youngins, without really knowing what they're getting into.

The original Disney Kaa was bad enough with giving people fetishes/awakening fetishes in people.
I don't see it working for me. You have to do a lot to overcome the blandness of unrelenting, unstylistic grittiness. I don't think Disney has the balls or the writers to make it good in the conventional sense and I don't see them striking the same kind of lightning they did with Johnny Depp as Sparrow in this one.
It all looks so boring. Another faux epic.
