The first time Steven ever heard his mom's voice was in her room, coming from that pink floating whale that appeared in both episodes.

Both times he's been in there, he had a hard time telling what was real and what was made specifically for his own desires.

How long before Steven goes in there wanting to speak to Rose and thinking he's talking to a hologram only for Rose to mention something he never knew about causing him question whether or not she's real
>>
>>79636325
I think the real question is how long until he goes back in there to /ss/ with his mom

there's two chekov's guns that i can count at the top of my head atm

gemstone reminiscent to bismuth

mysterious orb on the moonbase.

i'm probably missing a lot more though.
>>
>>79636325
That is certainly a possibility, but I hope she stays in her whale form when she talks to Steven. I hope the first time he sees his actual mom in the flesh, if ever, is during some important time like during a boss fight or something.
>>
>>79636518
cracked geode, bubbled gem monsters, giant sword from the temple statue
>>
>>79636518
Probably a geode. The one Greg sealed with his duct tape was built to house a synthetic ion storm capable of "vaporizing [gems's] physical forms" and looked like it was dropped from orbit. It's implied to be a weapon for non-lethally suppressing gems and eradicating organic life in a large area I.E a geo-nuke

I really should write up that post some time

>>
>>79636325
Well, she is part of steven. maybe we might get an episode to something like this somewhere between season 2 and 3
>>
>>79636982

Hopper quartz does not make square crystals you donut, it still maintains hexagonal characteristics.
>>
>>79641423
True, but do the artists know that? hopper quartz is ugly as fuck and it seems kind of strange that it would be pink like that when all results for bismuth show blue hoppers and the first few search results for hopper crystals mention rose quartz by name without showing it. I assume at least some of them would either end the search there or change the look for the sake of aesthetics, assuming they were finding just pictures of unphotogenic rocks
>>
>>79641785

I really want to believe that the crew would have put a little research into something that's almost certainly a major plot point.
>>
>>79636982
>>79641785
Bismuth is not blue. It's iridescent.

It's far more likely that the crew thought iridescent object in a magic pink environment = pink than the hoop of logic that would take to present hopper quartz as bismuth-looking
>>
>>79642420

This, especially considering bismuth's high reflectivity in addition to iridescence.
>>
>>79642420
>>79642616
The thing is, Bismuth isn't really considered a gem is it?
I mean, it looks awesome, but when have you ever heard of Bismuth jewelry?

Some shit like the cursed drawing from Together Breakfast was never explained. The Armor of the Fallen from Rose's Armory. Basically anything in a bubble (gems, fragments, chaaaaps, and the heaven and earth beetles). Sapphire's room. The fuckhuge heart of the temple. The Melons. Onion's hidden room thing. Peridot's limbs that got tossed in the ocean. The Shooting Star. The Lunar Sea Spire's connection to the Moon Base.
>>
>>79649512
Better to improve her than to remove her and thus make all the time spend on her already pointless.
>>
>>79649536
>the cursed drawing from Together Breakfast was never explained
Didn't Ian imply on his Twitter or something that it was made with paint made out of powdered gems?
>>
>>79649536
Most of those are clearly just meant to be cool visuals or gags.

>The Armor of the Fallen from Rose's Armory.
Just an example of the kind of stuff in there.

>Basically anything in a bubble (gems, fragments, chaaaaps, and the heaven and earth beetles).
Just background imagery.

>The fuckhuge heart of the temple.
Just a cool visual.

>The Melons.
I'm pretty sure there's an upcoming episode about them.

>Onion's hidden room thing.
Seems self-explanatory.

>Peridot's limbs that got tossed in the ocean.
Also pretty self-explanatory. They're gone.

>The Shooting Star.
?

>The Lunar Sea Spire's connection to the Moon Base.
Seems more like just general worldbuilding.

Bismuth is extremely out-of-place, and the blue orb thing was actually given like 10 seconds of attention, which they wouldn't waste for no reason.
>>
>>79649540

That's the sunk cost fallacy, and it's not good economics.

But I personally like Connie a bit. She's more interesting than Lars.
>>
>>79649556
Let me rephrase: It's origin was never explained.

Either someone slew a gem beast, conquered a gem house, or gathered up gem limbs to get the gems or fragments used to paint that shit to make an evil magic painting.

>>79649576
>the fuckhuge heart of the temple is just a cool visual.
I refuse to believe that. It's conspicuous as fuck

I also refuse to accept that none of the bubbled shit will get unbubbled later.

The Shooting Star's the thing from Monster Buddies (speaking of shit that will come up again, Peetle)

>>
>>79649629
Shit has to be explained on some level to add to world building.

That's the difference between world building and shit that happens.

Also shit like literally everything in a bubble is what is called unresolved plot, like Steven's healing powers being gone (speaking of Chekov's guns).
>>
>>79649576
>Basically anything in a bubble (gems, fragments, chaaaaps, and the heaven and earth beetles).
>Just background imagery.
Rose was looking for a way to heal corrupted gems. Pretty sure they will focus on this soon again, since in the leaked episode list there are episodes called 'Monster Reunion', 'Bubbled' and 'Gem Harvest'

>Peridot's limbs that got tossed in the ocean.
>Also pretty self-explanatory. They're gone
The leaked teaser of Barn Mates shows Peridot giving a present to Lapis. Think it's pretty likely by the end of the episode Lapis gives the lost limb enhancers back to Peridot

Though I'm not able to do much speculating on the other things pointed out, I wouldn't immediately want to write them off as just 'cool visuals/gags' either
>>

She's not a shitty character at all though.
>>

Dullness.

Despite appearing like ten times as often as either of them, she's gotten less development than Sadie or Lars.
>>
>>79649601
True, if the scroll was made by a gem that's one thing, but if it was made by a human? That just raises a whole slew of questions, it implies that there were at least some humans who knew about gems and interacted with them in some way (as does the diamond symbol on the one dollar bill, now that I think about it).

diamond's on the two dollar. And that can be explained by Ronaldo being right about polymorphic sentient rocks running shit.

Nobody said the CGs are the only remaining gem on Earth.
>>
>>79649709
Much of it is self-explanatory. Worldbuilding does not always require exposition.

The bubbled gems are an unresolved plot though. The entire corrupt gem angle seems to have been unceremoniously dropped
>>
>>79649703

Lars is a shitty character. Jasper is a shitty character.

Connie's maybe not your cup of tea, but she actually has good arcs.
>>

I think if there were some other group of gems on Earth secretly running the government the CGs would know about them.
>>
>>79649755
Neither Lars nor Jasper are bad characters. Bad person =/= Bad character.

>but she actually has good arcs.
What arcs? There's been a grand total of like, one (Sword to the Sword).
>>
>>79649743
>Much of it is self-explanatory.
We don't know who used the Armor of the Fallen, be it human or gem, although they obviously fell. I expect it will probably pop up in another world building flashback. Most of the war isn't really fleshed out.

We agree the bubbles are unresolved

the fuckhuge heart isn't self explanatory

The melons will be back based on episode titles

Sapphire's room still hasn't been shown yet and I call all the bullshit on that never happening.

Onion's room I concede could be a gag.

Peridot's limbs are 50:50 but until we get a "she tries and fails to build replacements" I won't think they're gone forever

Shooting Star's already come up once since in an alternate possible future

Sea Spire could just be worldbuilding but isn't self explanatory
>>
>>79649755
Lars is a shitty character because the writers have no idea how to use him. It sucks.

He had a small redemption in the episode with the moss turning into flowers, but after that he was back to same old shithead.
>>
>>79649764

>I think if there were some other group of gems on Earth secretly running the government the CGs would know about them.
Yes.

And?

Seriously when have they ever told Steven ANYTHING before he absolutely needed to know, if not after?
>>
>>79649715
do you even watch the show? lars and sadie literally have not changed one bit, connie went from a shy weak girl under the thumb of her parents to a confident sword-wielder who told her mom off while being attacked by a mutant.

it's fine if you dislike her character but dont make up bs
>>
>>79649787
Jasper's a fairly bad character given she's had almost no screen time and a chunk of it is devoted to immediately throwing out gem prejudice against fusion which she espoused for a power boost. Massive character inconsistencies are not associated with good characters, but if she's developed as a pragmatist later I'll let that shit slide.

I will agree that Lars isn't a bad character though.
>>
>>79649804
Changing isn't what I'm talking about. I'm walking about characterization, of which Connie has had sparsely any.
>>
>>79649797
They've been living alone on Earth for over five thousand years, and even when they were isolated they still went on missions. You're telling me that at no point during that time did they encounter other gems who were manipulating human society?

>>79649802
Ok, that's a legitimate point. The show is entirely from Steven's POV and Steven doesn't even know half of what the CGs get up to yet. But still, given that they've started to open up about homeworld, you'd think the fact that there are other gems living on Earth would have come up if that were the case.
>>
>>79649825
>I'm walking about characterization, of which Connie has had sparsely any.
Fusion Cuisine, Nightmare Hospital, Sworn to the Sword, Open Book, Alone Together, Steven's Birthday, and An Indirect Kiss all demonstrate various aspects of her personality especially as it relates to the people around her.

She's developed as fuck.
>>
>>79649735
Oh you bet the whole situation is going to escalate after Peridot gives her the present (I really hope it's going to be a fucking mirror). However I wouldn't be surprised if Steven (or someone else) is going to convince Lapis Peridot's intention was sincere and kind. In return I could see the episode ending with Lapis silently and without much expression giving the limb enhancers back, as a first step in the right direction.
>>
>>79649855
>you'd think the fact that there are other gems living on Earth would have come up if that were the case.
What is the first thing Steven would do if he found out there were other gem living on Earth?
>>
>>79649855
The world's a big place. If one does not make themselves known, you would never meet them.
>>
>>79649787
>Neither Lars nor Jasper are bad characters

Except they both are.

Lars: I am a selfish teenage boy who wants to be popular but is not.

Yawn.

Jasper: MEEEEEEAAAAAAT!!!!

Someone call John K. The lummox is loose again.

Compared to those tropes, I'll rewatch every Connie episode twice.
>>
>>79649879
Of those only Nightmare Hospital and Sword to the Sword gave us much.

She was practically a prop in the others.
>>
>>79649822
>a chunk of it is devoted to immediately throwing out gem prejudice against fusion which she espoused for a power boost
hypocrisy is a common character trait of villains
>>
>>79649895
Try to meet them, which I imagine the CGs would want to avoid if they were enemies, but I think that Steven would listen if they told him "don't bother, these Illuminati Gems are bad news".
>>
>>79649913
A lot gets crammed into the end of Open Book, her reaction to older Steven in Steven's birthday was fairly instructive of her relationship with Steven (albeit it was probably the lightest in this list after an Indirect Kiss), an Indirect Kiss and Fusion Cuisine set up all the drama in Nightmare Hospital, and Alone Together was literally entirely about developing Steven and Connie's relationship.
>>
>>79649935

The heart of the temple is the literal heart of the temple. What it is is right in the name. You can assume it's what keeps everything in the temple functioning.
>>
>>79649913
>>79649879
I think the problem is that Connie is overall very inoffensive and even deferential towards the Gems.
She is pretty mature for her age, adventurous, determined, torn between following orders and following her dreams etc.
But all of that just kind of goes unnoticed next to the CG insanity of alien warriors and planetkiller weapons.
>>
>>79649917
>hypocrisy is a common character trait of villains
Right but abandoning longheld prejudices they were espousing a few minutes earlier is not.

And the hypocrisy is usually out of pragmatism or indulgence which will be established beforehand in their character.

Jasper hasn't got much screentime and she's been inconsistent across what she's gotten. Not saying she will remain shit, but for the moment that makes for a shit character.

Okay, you're right, that was dumb. But still, the whole concept still doesn't make any sense, who would these other gems be? Where do they fit in to the whole CGs vs Homeworld conflict? Are they Homeworld loyalists who stayed behind, or are they a splinter faction from Rose's rebellion?
>>
>>79650007

Pearl?
>>
>>79650021
>or are they a splinter faction from Rose's rebellion?
Wouldn't be a stretch for them to be this. CGs protect earth's ecosystem, not humans specifically. They wouldn't give 2 shits if other gems wanted to play secret magic overlords and they can't force those gems to defend Earth.

Jasper wants to win. She likes to crush her enemies, as established with her weird competitive attitude towards Rose and her sadistic grins while hurting things. She is driven to using a "cheap tactic" because she lost to it, showing her that it is in fact effective.

>2. Even if she did bathe, her room in the temple is literally full of pools and waterfalls, why would she use a mere shower?

She stabs MC Bear Bear with her spear because he upset the symmetry of her pile of junk.

It would not be at all out of character for Pearl to bathe herself outside of the temple to keep her ponds clean enough to see through time itself.
>>
>>79650077
There are people that liike to win but want to win "their way" and fuck everything else.

We didn't get any view into how she likes to win before she pulled that shit. You are inferring shit based on how she acted because it would be shit for her to be otherwise, but that doesn't mean she isn't shit, it just means you've noticed a potential glaring flaw in the character based on the development she will receive later.

What could be more satisfying than cleaning one's own bodygram so it's totally spotless? Your mistress killed herself and has reincarnated as an annoying troll with no memories. You're stuck in the temple with said troll, Filthy the Hutt, and an ongoing relationship. Why not take that extra time and indulge in your passion?

Yes, but there has to be a build to shit.

You can't just have someone betray a core tenant of their society right out the gate.

Yes, dialogue helps build hypocrisy characterizations. In fact, it's almost necessary.

There's actually nothing inconsistent about her wanting to fuse. 'The Answer' on top of what Jasper says in 'Jailbreak' makes it pretty clear how homeworld views fusion. It's something weaker soldiers do to make themselves stronger. It's seen as beneath Gems that are already sufficiently strong. Quartz don't fuse, because they don't need to, they are already strong. Jasper doesn't have a prejudice against fusion. She just views it as a crutch.
Her wanting to fuse herself isn't even really hypocritical. To her, garnet being a fusion is cheating, so her fusing is just evening the odds, making the fight fair again.
>>
>>79649790
>the fuckhuge heart isn't self explanatory
Didn't the hand ship Jasper and co. fly in one also have a heart? With veins everywhere? Its clearly a magical generator.
>>
>>79649490
the fact that he likes her isn't what she wanted him to say. cloud Connie wanted him to tell the truth about what he thought about the ending of the book. Steven and Connie seem to be pretty aware of how they fee about eachother
>>
>>79650221
>>79650296
>>79650321
Ok, even if she does need or like to bathe herself, I still maintain that she would have a place in her own room to do it. Not only is her room full of much better waterworks than a simple shower, and even if she does like to keep said waterworks spotless I would imagine that she would be fine with setting a pool aside for bathing and cleaning it more often than the rest, but I can't imagine that Pearl would want to bathe in a place where she could be potentially seen by other people.
>>
>>79636325
Perhaps the room is an extension of her gem.

Or, perhaps Rose is just very good at distilling certain sections of her personality to be uploaded into things (like Lion / The room).
>>
>>79650007
Greg has to shower somewhere
>>
>>79649490
What the room wanted Steven to tell her wasn't anything to do with romantic feelings, it was coaxing him to admit something he'd been hiding and was eating him up inside: The fact that he lied about his thoughts on the ending of the book just to please Connie.

But there isn't enough evidence to say for sure what the root of this phenomena was.

It could be one of the following:
> The room is just a semi-intelligent Virtual Intelligence like Siri or Google or Cortana, but has some lingering part of Rose's personality within it, and it was deliberately and consciously getting Steven to admit something he was bottling up.
The issues with this one being that if the room is just a dumb VI that does nothing but take orders, talk in the voice of its original creator and occasionally have moments of advanced lucidity, it probably isn't psychic and Steven never gave it any reason to doubt his enjoyment of the book's ending.

>The room is bound to Rose's gem physically and emotionally and poofing virtual shit into existence is just the surface of what it's really used for, if it was ever supposed to be used for that at all, and it actually works as a meditation chamber much in the same way that human dreaming sometimes allows the subconscious to present the dreamer with things it feels are of concern, like trying to work out the kinks in one's mental state by getting them to face fears, release pent-up emotions and generally iron out the mental creases that come with conscious life.
This one seems more likely - Gems don't sleep unless they force themselves to, and a room where you can interact with your subconscious on a less truman-show-esque fashion would be better and more efficient for mental digestion (especially for the leader of a rebel alliance who is also older than the pyramids).
In this case, the room forced Steven to admit something he was hiding because that's the -true- purpose of the room. To reconcile mental issues with the concious.
>>
>>79659034
he doesn't spend a lot of time at the temple. he probably has one at the car wash. keep in mind that until like 6 years ago there was no house
>>
>>79659115
A third thing it could be is the following:

>Whatever the room was when Rose owned it is irrelevant. Rose deliberately programmed the room prior to Steven's birth with a small measure of her intelligence in a similar fashion to the way Lion functions. Basically to incrementally teach him shit when the opportunity presents itself. Things like "be true to yourself and don't lie just to pander to other people". or "Be mindful of reality."
>Lion works in a similar way but instead of incrementally revealing mental lessons to Steven, it seems to be incrementally revealing actual physical things to him about Rose, The Gems, and what it is exactly Steven is to inherit (it showed him her sword, the secret cavern where she kept all her stuff, the tape, bismuth and chances are it took him and everyone else to the moon as a part of this incremental lessons program.
This one seems just as likely as the previous one, and i'm not honestly sure which i personally believe at the moment. It's hard to say given what little we know.

The Shooting Star was also in Future Vision where in one possible future the gems were going to warp it to the galaxy warp where it would detonate, destroying the location.

I don't think they actually did it though since the galaxy warp didn't look any worse off than it was before when they visited it again after that episode.
>>
>>79659273
>>79659115
Or that's all completely groundless bullshit headcanon, and the room was just doing what Steven told it to do. The room does what Steven wants. When Steven started telling cloud Connie to not just do what he told her to, it stopped following his direct commands and instead switched to his unspoken desires. He WANTED to tell Connie the truth, he was just scared of doing so. The room was still just doing what he wanted and nothing more.

It's not that deep senpai.

The giant sword could be a Chekhov's gun but not necessarily. Depends on how much it comes into play.

The bubbled monsters are just a currently unresolved subplot. They've already received enough attention that they can't possibly be called Chekhov's guns.

The room knows what steven is thinking, and can create very realistic recreations of people and places he has seen.

It's very likely that the room has stored the memories thoughts and feelings of Rose to use at it sees fit. So if he does see Rose than it is most likely a projection based on what the room remembers of rose, who has used it for thousands of years.

That room very well could create a perfect replica of rose, that freely thinks, for steven to talk to should the need to do so arise.

>They've already received enough attention that they can't possibly be called Chekhov's guns.
Strictly speaking those bubbled gems and fragments still count as Chekhov's guns as long as they "1 contribute to the resolution of part of the overall plot", "2 are left insignificant for long stretches of time", and "3 are objects"

They fully apply (ish, I mean they're technically comatose bestial gems and corpses so 3's a bit of a stretch). You can discuss the gun hanging on the wall to death, but as long as you never do anything with it for a long ass time it still counts as a c Chekhov's gun. Fuck, it can get used once, not addressed for a long ass time, and as long as it gets used again it's still a Chekhov's gun.
