Budai is considered an incarnation of Buddha, particularly of Maitreya.

Because Abrahamic religions are pretty retarded.

They dont. They say theyre going to, but never actually do.

The furthest they get is buying a budai statue and like one or two cheap dalai lama books.

Compare successful countries run by Christians, Jews, and Muslims to third world countries run by Buddhists
>>

Those religions are much easier to build a solidified social structure around, sure, but that doesn't mean they inherently have any other merits over Buddhism.

Case in point.

Buddhism and Hinduism are like the closest to my personal beliefs... I'm not religious, but if I had a partner who was devoutly Buddhist, I'd probably convert if I felt it would help me find a sense of purpose and give me some peace of mind, as well as get closer to my partner.

But I'm a white American, so maybe it's just the exotic nature that attracts me and the jaded attitude toward Abrahamic religions that enforces that.

it's /a/ but it's One Punch Man

Think not? Think it's simple muh powerlevels?

He's unemployed and seeks actualization beyond existance: sounds a lot like Nirvana. He cares not about what super egoic pressures are put on him yet the show focused on these ridiculous pressures. He takes care of himself and carries a zen gait.

Buddhism and Hinduism have the best, most cohesive lore and backstories.

Abrahamic mythos doesn't even have top-tier golden age wackiness. It's just try-hard and derivative.

Yeah but all the best stories with Buddhism are crazy East Asian Bastardizations.
Without it, Buddha is just some reach sheltered asshole who sat under a tree after he learned people have harder lives.

>religion as comic books

I'm liking this idea. Religions are just comic books from thousands of years ago. Priests since then have just been a bunch of neckbeards arguing over what is and isn't canon, and preaching to/condeming to hell the normies.

I know this is not /a/ but there is a manga version of Buddha's story. sure some of the charters are OC but it still follows close to his read story, its a good read from Osamu Tezuka. you might know his stories from the original Astor boy. There are 8 volumes in total and a amazing read.

They really are. I think it was on BBC world news but I saw a report about Chinese knock offs. They showed counterfeit Harry potter books, such as Harry potter and the crystal ball, and Harry potter and tiger walk up to Dragon.
They counterfeit things that don't even exist.

Buddhism is sickening, its disgusting. Its literally just well-packaged nihilism.

You are literally trying to destroy your soul to stop reincarnating and wanting things as a buddhist.

Buddhism isn't a religion it's a philosophy
>>

>>79178391
Depends on your definition of religion, but there are elements of faith and the supernatural, varying between different Buddhist traditions.

>>79177814
Buddhism has certainly had an impact on Japan, but I think other traditions have had more dominant influence. I certainly wouldn't say Japan is run by Buddhists.

Buddhism is the indulgence of pure apathy.
It raises some decent points but in the end its just a way for people to rationalize living a life of complete inaction.

>>
>>79179033
With the internet and other factors the 2000s onward are basically dominated by a time of filthy statists elites and so many people have come to realize this and are bummed the fuck out, which is why hedonism and such is making the rounds again. we're due for a big collapse or at least a revolution in the west in the next 100 or so years, and the people in power are clamping the fuck down to prevent it and the little man on the street wise to this whole deal feels so detached from it all its the best he can manage to distract himself or embrace death.
At least thats my take on it.
Buddhism is just a codification of apathy and the cyclical nature of the world.
>>
So the mainstream Hindu stuff, (mainstream, not the ascetic philosophy shit), is based entirely on psychedelic experience, right?
>>
>>79178813

Consciousness arises and imprinted upon the soul, however the soul itself is not a conscious thing, merely a collection of experiences much like a biography. You are not your soul, this life is all you have.
>>
>>79172383
There are several Buddhist divisions
Also Abrahamic religions are as European as they are Asian
The problem is Western degenerates used Eastern spirituality as an excuse for their own egos, so they pretty much ruined it for anyone white

>>
>>79180393
technically speaking they're more Asian than Abraham religions are european since they're actually from Asia albeit from West Asia which is overlooked or thought apart from the rest of Asia.
>>
>>79178293
Sounds perfect to me.
Why be attached to this fake reality and it's lures? You know it's not real, but it keeps your attention by feeling so real, by making you want and desire physical shit.
Ceasing to exist is the one true freedom.
I'm not even Buddhist.

Can Buddha beat Jesus? They both have reality warping powers but Buddha's done his on a wide scale in myths, while Jesus hasn't. But this is comparing Jesus the man versus Buddha the deity. Jesus Ascended would probably rekt any deity.

Religion is but a fandom with its own army. Originally it was about "natural"/"artifical" languages but pretty much applies here.
>>
>>79180850
what is real, then?
>>
>>79180993
I have no idea and that is the worst part, I'll probably never know.
Fuck, quantum physics pretty much proved that we perceive reality in an illusory manner for years now.
To keep reincarnating on this same system of of simulation for eternity sounds to me like the worst curse an individual could endure.
>>
>>79180924
considering they both preach pacifism to the point of martyrdom, probably neither?
>>
>>79173790
>They counterfeit things that don't even exist.

I remember an interview where it was explained that it's part of the mindset where they consider imitation flattery. A lot of people also consider it proof of their capability. "You think you're so great because you made XYZ? I can make XYZ too- and make it even better!"

Plus, they just don't have businesses being so up in arms about protecting their exclusive access to profits. Harry Potter fanfiction is a thing anyone can read online for free, but if someone tried making money off of it by publishing their own books, they'd just be sued out the ass. Shit barely even goes public domain anymore, because businesses make too much on legal wrangling to maintain copyrights that should have expired years ago.
>>
>>79178293
>You are literally trying to destroy your soul to stop reincarnating and wanting things as a buddhist.

"Death of the soul" as most people would understand it loses a lot of its punch when you realize that it's supposed to be possible to achieve Nirvana while still alive.

You're not ceasing to be, as many would infer from "destroying the soul". You're just escaping the process of reincarnating into the world.

So in the context that most anyone else would actually understand, the "soul" continues, but just exists outside the world in a perfectly non-suffering state.

But the entire practice was prevalent in any country with Buddhist cultural influences.

Yes, it's fairly well known. Perhaps mainly from the RATM album cover

There was a guy from Israel who did a similar thing years back

To be fair, Christians burn women whose property they want to steal. Not actual witches.
>>
>>79182091
How is that relevant? A more apt comparison is their martyr fixation granted a good amount of martyrs were crucified including the two most famous and they were jews. But in a modern context Christians religious demonstrative suicide seems rare. That's more a muslim and Buddhist thing.
