>We made the big time, malicious and mad...

It's time for another fast forward.
Five years later and Future is alive.
But what world are they trapped inside?
Come on, let's find out...

This is
Crossed + 106 #13: Five Years Later

Wait,what?

So she's an infected or wtf?
>>
>>79156205
It's the baby she got at the end of the last issue.
>>
>>79156244
Damn. What a fucken twist.
>>
>>79155634

this got the taste of shit from Crossed Badlands from my mouth.

And I thought that Hines was heavyhanded
>>
>>79156839
Bemis tries for metacommentary and comedy...but is nowhere near Spurrier's level of pulling it off, and even Spurrier can fumble a bit.
>>
Y'know just a minor issue I have but I honestly don't think any Abrahamic religion would survive the Crossed apocalypse. I think it would be more fitting if people were crazy superstitious but not religiously affiliated.

A Shintoeqsque type thing would be better.
>>
>>79156920

I mean, it was so stereotypical and pathetic... the strong opressed womyn, the mysoginist comic book readers, and the dick sucking of the social justice warriors... Not even Hines on Gore Angels was this bad, because you know rape is a real evil... but this... wow, it felt like a fucking caricature

>>79157046

I think the reason Islam survived was because while still keeping a sizable group of followers they also had nothing to do with the cross.
>>
>>79157167
Exactly.
He's trying so hard to have some sort of message, sardonic or whatever, that it hits you with the force of a sledgehammer.
>>
>>79157167
I think I saw a Christian in an earlier issue. He called a Muslim a "allah hole" or something.

>>79157046
Yeah I'd imagine people going for amulets, magical symbols and tattoo's that supposedly protect you from the Crossed and bring you good luck, not a full blown religion surviving.
>>
>>79157246

well, it's not like the organization system of Islam survived, only the basic knowledge of their religion and some traditions.

>>79157205

What was even his message? "Don't oppose social justice warriors you misogynist pigs or they will fuck you up good. Oh yeah, also support author published comics, yay"?
>>
>>79157413
Yeah, no, that's basically it.
You're right, even Hine was more focued

Thanks for another one, Dave.

Say, you ever storytime anything amateur from those Hows Your Webcomics threads? I feel like those guys could use a kick out of their comfort zones every now and then.

Nope, and I'm not sure that's in my wheelhouse haha

>Bemis
I'm SOOOO READY for Gage's arc to start. This Bemis material is hands down the worst Badlands material I've ever read.
>>
I just can't read this, must be the shitty font and the retarded speech.
>>
>>79161015
What's happening here?
>>
>>79162325
Smokey is a Boss Crossed.
The cover is just exemplifying that,
>>
>>79161015
He's close being up there.
Well, in terms of pure concentration he was like the worst qualities of the worst contributors haha.

I'm not the biggest fan of Smokey, but everyone seems to love that arc so it should be fun.
>>
That thread about dark souls is making me realize what a crossed game would be like
>>
>>79163019
I always figured it'd be like the Crazies
>>
>>79162975
I thought the younger kids were going to attack the schoolgirls and him.
>>
>>79164108
Oh, I was focusing more on the Crossed rallied behind him
>>
>>79161015
Honestly, Shrink was not nearly as bad as the previous retards on a bridge arc, that terrible Captain Crispy, the two women fleeing from the guy who saved them and surprisingly turned out to be a psycho... Badlands has a lot of terrible stuff to offer.
The latest two issue run is bad and heavyhanded as fuck, but at least it's interesting. The previous three are not even trying. Retards on a bridge in particular is porn-tier.
>>
>>79164746
What sets it apart is how Bemis is clearly trying for more but sucks too hard.
No one expects much from Wolfer.
>>
Badlands 91 & 92 might be the most offensive issues they've ever put out.

It's not even an anti-SJW thing or whatever, because I'm betting Bemis thought an arc of a rape zombie comic where the strong woman and the gay guys clichedly strike back against her comic geek captors, would have been rage inducing in an ironic sort of way ("you have no problem seeing a guy fuck a dolphin, but THIS pisses you off, huh?)

The problem is, that's actually completely talentless and devoid of any actual irony. It's like Justin Bieber opening a Slayer concert. There's nothing clever or humorous about it, it's just a direct insult designed to induce annoyance on the target audience.

And it's a big problem with a lot of media today, where people think they can just fuck around and it works because it elicits a reaction. How about trying to provide a unique plot that gets people talking positively about it? I actually liked part one and wanted to see how it ended, as long as it was literally anything but "oh the gay guys help the girl get revenge against the geeks, duh."

It just totally misses the point of Crossed and effectively insults us readers of it with the tired old "edgy teenagers" argument, but from our own comic this time. I get the message, doesn't mean it's not a really crappy, worse, lazy one.
>>
>>79164746
Oh yeah, that's the other thing. Maybe 91 & 92 wouldn't look so shitty if most of the recent Badlands arcs were at least fun to read. It's just going downhill more and more. You said, they aren't even trying.
>>
>>79165121
I agree, but let me bring it back to Spurrier (because let's face it almost all of his arcs have ended with this message) who consistently does the "this comic is never going to change or do something interesting" moral...but at least there is more going on there.
>>
>>79165216
I left this out up above, but now that I'm thinking about it more, the thing that may have annoyed me most about this mini-arc is the fact that it didn't have any Crossed in it.

In the comic she wrote, sure, but that hardly counts. It was just another "bunch of shitty people forced together because of a threat that barely gets acknowledged" story. Could have been an issue of The Boring Dead.

If the girl had gotten Crossed, her reaction to the events might have been interesting to see.
>>
>>79165803

yeah, I'm finding that weird too, latest issues haven't dealt with any kind of Crossed at all. I kind of miss having a Crossed antagonist on each arc or have the Crossed be the protagonist. This kind of "humans are the real monsters" shit is getting incredibly old. Crossed are just humans that follow all their sick thoughts, you can't have a better horror monster than that yet you fucking stick to the tired and old "humans are the real monsters"?

The Crossed are one of the most interesting concepts that have ever been created in comicbook at least for the past decade, if only because of their transgression level. I find it terrible how some of these "writers" are wasting it.
>>
>>79164746
Shrink was incredibly obvious. The second it was revealed he had a thing for the girl you knew he'd get cucked and that he would be the bad guy.
>>
>>79166371
That whole bit was taken almost wholesale from Writer's Retreat.
Treat had many of the same hallmarks as that...except with exceedingly lame attempts at comedy.
>>
What does AFAWK mean?

As Far As We Know

There ain't no calendars anymore man

>>79155558
What is fewch doing in this panel, the one where she holds the flashlight to her chest?
>>
>>79168592
I guess she enjoys the warmth.
>>
This came out alot earlier than was expecting it
>>
>>79168859
Avatar does that a lot of the time.
I forgot to mention that it was coming out haha.
>>
>>79164802
I at least expected his art to be decent. I remember stitched looked ok. As a writer, wolfer is incredibly bad at pacing out his story.
>>
>>79155436
>sexwits
kek

>>79155495
>cross-cherried

This lingo is half the fun.
>>
>>79169102
I thought cross-cherried was great too.
>>
so the question is, can you raise a crossed to not be a crossed? for reals and not simply 'restraining' their impulses, like with the black guy with the burned face.
>>
>>79169311
I'm guessing we'll see with Future's "daughter".

I think that you might be able too.
I doubt they had the time to restrain the impulses of all of the Crossed tribes, and it was noted that some of the ones they came across were genially rapey.
>>
>>79155634
Aw, she's so cute when she's sleeping.
>>
>>79169698
And deadly.
They have no safeguards.
>>
Crossed +100 continues to be the beacon of hope, rising above all other current crossed comics.

So with badlands 91-92, we all agree. It had a message, but it was heavy handed and stupid.

One thing that doesn't sit well with me is, they have a comic shop above a market? Not too unlikely, but what I feel is unlikely is that they wouldn't encounter crossed or survivors breaking into the market to destroy/scavenge what is inside.
>>
I can't understand a damn word

It's been so long since I read the last issue I forgot the whole newspeak dictionary
>>
>>79155483
Who's that guy?
>>
>>79171666
Bea Salt. The leader of the salt clan.
>>
>>79169392
Well, yeah, but the only way you could potentially get a Crossed to act normal by choice is if you raise him like that from the get-go. Don't even let him know that Crossed behavior is an option.
Still wouldn't work though, eventually something would happen that would make them realize they like some fucked up shit.
>>
>>79164746
>>79164802
>Retards on a bridge
>Wolfer
Yeah, that arc was pretty much exactly as bad as I expected. I'll rephrase and say Badlands has been consistently worse than it's ever been.

>>79171474
>+100 vs Badlands
Gillen's arc was the last decent one. I imagine we'll get an Ennis arc at #100?
>>
>>79174722
Gillen's arc was a pretty fun read. From what I understand, Garth's arc will be 12 issues. So let the glory rain down upon us.
>>
so is this an on-going series a la walking dead ?

how is ist?
>>
>>79174900
Crossed +100 is def worth a read. Especially if you read Crossed Vol. 1 by Garth Ennis.
>>
>>79174833
I just hope it's better than Patient Zero, which had moments, but no cohesive passion.

What a fun read.

>>79165803
>>79166196

The bridge arc had the surgeon and her gang, but then they got waylaid to the point that I don't even remember if they appeared in the last issue.

The "horrible people turn on and do horrible things to each other; also, something about a virus?" plot is getting really fucking old.

>>79179722
>The "horrible people turn on and do horrible things to each other; also, something about a virus?" plot is getting really fucking old.

I think the best one like that was actually Ennis' web short story thing. But usually it's pretty dull.
>>
>>79179793
Yeah, Dead or Alive was a nice little story.
The first Badlands arc was what hit it for me though.
