Maybe it's cause "he was a Robin" but even then not all that great of an excuse. Mostly because blue blends in better with shadows and almost every member of the family who has been a Robin HAS RED. It certainly differentiated him as not sticking to his Robin half of life and just becoming his own person.
So I'm guessing DC told Abnett to cut that wally teasing shit out once people started reacting to it online. He did it non stop in the first two issues and not a hint of it in the next two.
