In general fads die out. Something gets really popular out of nowhere, then after a while everyone flocks to it, the market gets flooded and eventually it dies out. That's literally what we're seeing now with the 20 or whatever announced movies by marvel and DC. More of you add the TV shows.
Luckily, history repeats itself so once comic movies/TV shows die out we only have to wait 20 or 30 years for them to come back strong. I'm really hoping the next comic book boom is in video games. I have no idea how they don't realize how cool comic games could be if they really tried.
