Yoda hoped that it would teach Anakin a valuable lesson in letting go when his Padawan matured in the Force. This almost worked after Ahsoka was captured once and used her training to save herself (with some help from Chewbacca and friends). Then it boomeranged on them in the end, making Anakin even more clingier and emo that the galaxy wasn't treating him as he deserved to be.

Anakin was still a ridiculously advanced Jedi Knight. He had mastered lightsaber and force techniques in record time, and in terms of skill with the force and lightsaber he really was already at Jedi Master level by the time of TCW. They didn't trust him because they could sense that he was still spiritually incomplete and emotionally frustrated, and they were afraid of what he could do with his power. They gave him a padawan to try and calm him down, teach him responsibility and perhaps make him ultimately a wiser man.
Unfortunately, instead of Ahsoka's relatively more gentle, by-the-book nature rubbing off on Anakin, his reckless, brutal tactics rubbed off on her and then the whole ordeal with her leaving the Jedi order happened.

Not just that, but a fight between mildly precogniscent people. Jedi can see a few moments or so into the future, and a well trained Jedi knows how a move ends before it even actually starts. Every swing isn't necessarily an actual thrust at the enemy, it's like a rehearsed dance they have to get through, trying to plan enough moves ahead that they can trap their opponent with no way out, or surprise them. It's like speed chess.

The PT's style of lightsaber fights was liked up until AOTC. Along with everything else wrong with that movie, it has literally the worst fight with Obi and Anakin against Dooku. And after the Yoda thing, it started to get a little ridiculous. Then ROTS comes along and the fight that started out as a lightsaber fight becomes a spectacle of look how cool this lava is

The whole thing was Palpatine fucking with the Jedi right before his endgame. Technically the Jedi had involved themselves in Republic affairs since they were generals, why shouldn't it go both ways? If the Jedi had tried to fight it, well, they didn't want the showdown, not when they felt the war was so near it's end. This would imply that the Supreme Chancellor could not simply appoint a Jedi to the Council without the Council's consent. A lot of the relationships between the Chancellor's Office, the Senate and the Jedi Order was unprecedented during the Clone Wars. They had never had to work together so closely before - they had to be united against a (perceived) exterior enemy, the Separatists, so much of what happened was unorthodox but all taken in the name of security.
The Council only "allowed" it in order to try to figure out Palpatines plans. They didn't like Anakins relationship with the Chancellor but they assumed Anakin would remain loyal to the Jedi and report on anything suspicious.

Because the Jedi were serving as generals and commanders in the army of the Republic so Palp and would need to be kept on the up-and-up about their decisions and movements concerning the war. I don't know what his excuse was for waiting for so late into the war to try to get one but I'd say it was due to the failings of the Jedi so many times and the attack on Coruscant was the last straw.

Indeed. Very crucial moment, this is where Palpatine really takes it up a level.
- Firstly, as a direct representative of Palpatine, Anakin is his right-hand man, and one step closer to being Palpatine’s apprentice.
- Secondly, it drives a much intended wedge between Anakin/Palpatine and the Jedi, who are already rightfully suspicious. Psychologically, the Jedi are going to further see Anakin as not truly one of them, and Anakin will sense this, adding to his feeling of isolation.
- Thirdly, he is conveniently using Anakin to spy on his sworn enemy, and knows the Jedi will ask the same of Anakin in return – “I think they will (accept Anakin onto the Council)...”.
- And finally, even though he is asking Anakin to do exactly the same thing as the Jedi will from the other side, Palpatine’s actions comes across as generous and fatherly - seeming to grant Anakin Mastership - which he probably knew the Jedi wouldn’t give Anakin anyway. With the Jedi on the other hand, asking him to spy (through Obi-Wan) is seen as a betrayal and an insult. They appear colder than Palpatine, even though Palpatine is creating this situation on purpose, and the Jedi actually care about Anakin more than Palpatine does – OBI-WAN: “Anakin, I am on your side, I didn’t want to put you in this situation.”
Palpatine’s final line is quite ominous... “They need you... more than you know.” A hint at Palpatine’s true opinion... of course foreshadowing that the Jedi’s own chosen one will tragically become their greatest enemy. The musical transition to the Council spire scene is done perfectly.

This is an interesting scene because we don't know who's morally right.
The Jedi mean well but are wrong in their dogmatism. Anakin is right on the issue, but wrong in meaning.
He's right in that he's overdue for praise. He's a volunteer who is one of the most skilled Jedi.
The Jedi are right in putting this egomaniac in check, but that's ALL they do. They never point out they're in his debt.
Anakin basically has no honor given. He's told to sit like a little puppy, and Anakin just bullshits them right back. Instead of venting his frustration out in the open, the Jedi preferred fake courtesy. So Anakin gives it to them, seethes in the background with his grievances, and then goes AWOL.
That do-gooder society really fucked up on his issues.
It's just a fiction full of plot holes, but you can see the basic dynamics. It's basic negotiation. Anakin has really simple and meetable demands.
1. His mother safe, free and protected.
2. A relationship with Padme.
3. A title befitting his skills and contributions.
Have him dishonorably discharged from the Jedi order. Give him the rank of "knight". In the same way Boba Fett works freelance for the empire on occasion without being an imperial soldier, Anakin could be likewise.
Maintaining a relationship with non-Jedi is important.
The way Anakin was handled was one monumental fuck-up due to their "one size fits all" approach. The "no attachment" philosophy clearly isn't for him.

But see, this misses a key point for Anakin. Anakin wasn't content to just be happy and left to his own devices. It wasn't just about pride. Anakin was obsessed with helping people and solving problems, and truly believed himself to be the chosen one, that it was his destiny, his birthright, to save the entire Galaxy. In his eyes, he should be powerful enough to save absolutely anyone from anything, and the council was holding him back and not letting him reach his full potential because they were scared of him and what he could do, which was, well, true.
If Qui-Gon had been able to teach him, or the council just had as much faith in Anakin as Qui-Gon had, that whole ordeal might have been averted. Really Sheev's plan hinged on driving mistrust between the council and Anakin, so that they wouldn't let him reach the full potential he so desperately craved, and he would be forced to seek power elsewhere.
