That really is one of the best costumes I've seen in a long-ass time.

Too bad Robbi Rodriguez is a complete tool.
>>
>>79124242
It's a good costume, but it's overrated. I prefer a lot of Spider costumes to it.

Also a one-hit wonder, every other redesign he's done has been terrible.

Miles's costume is the best Spider-Costume.

>>79126727
I like the collar. The costume just needs more yellow.
>>
>>79126727
It's too alien and it doesn't say what it should about a young Superman.

At this period, above all others, he's more human than alien. More of Earth than of Krypton.

The classic suit says that more than this one.
The colour is too authoritarian too. At least for such a young Supes.

An older and experience Superman looks fine in a collar because he is, by then, more than just a symbol of a man doing his part. He's a legitimate authority figure.
>>
>>79126841
>disturbingly feminine
That's just Rocafort.
>>
>>79126806
No, the shine is what is most fucking important to make it look more grand and epic then generic pathetic cosplay looking blanket tier cloth.
The wrist are fucking phenomenal and so are the lines, GOD DAMN IT what the fuck is wrong with you people?, why do you so desperately want to divorce Superman from his badass Sci-Fi nature.
>>
>>79126727
I don't think you need to get rid of all the lines, but getting rid of the majority of them makes it look good. Kind of like the Smallville S11 costume. The flatter, more fabric look even makes the collar somewhat tolerable as it feels kind of comfy like a turtleneck rather than a formal thing.

It looked good to me in the last Batman/Superman issue.

>>
>>79126861
It's a nice looking suit, for sure, but the black scheme has too much weight in Spider-man history.

Miles is just a kid. He doesn't have a dark side yet.

A Spider-man suit with that much black harkens way too strongly to the Black Suit for it to suit Miles.

A good suit for one the clones, maybe, or a version of Peter who has found balance between anger and violence, and justice and righteousness.
>>
>>79126886
>It's too alien
THAT IS THE FUCKING POINT, it needs to look Sci-fi and not generic silly superheroy, he needs to stand out.
He need to come off as a grand mesmerizing ideal not like a guy in a pathetic cosplay.

Not him, but I like this reasoning.

Early Superman would most likely have work clothes (rags and a cape) like in Action Comics.

When he gets older and more mature, then he wears something more regal. Something that not just shows he's the Earth's beacon of hope - but that he's also the Top Dog, someone who's not to be fucked with.
>>
>>79126905
>why do you so desperately want to divorce Superman from his badass Sci-Fi nature.

Not him, but I think that's kind of the point to most people. That Clark's a smalltown guy dealing with grand sci-fi shit. You want his look to fit in with his surroundings where the rest of us want it to contrast.

Not going to find middle ground here.
>>
>>79126945

You know what? Anything I'm gonna say will get me banned for not keeping /pol/ in /pol/ so I'll just shut up, but you probably understand what I'm trying to say anyway.
>>
>>79126956
>He need to come off as a grand mesmerizing ideal not like a guy in a pathetic cosplay.
Not young Superman.
Young Clark is just a guy in a pathetic cosplay trying to do what's right.

That's the core of Superman. A small town boy trying to do what's right by the world with the gifts he was given.

Maybe as he ages he can start to feel alien and the suit can reflect that.

But the core suit should always be simple.

Eh, I think you're reading into the whole Color Theory thing too much.

Peter has been shown to be absolutely pissed in his classic costume as well as the black suit.

If you really want to stretch that train of thought, you could say that Miles is in mourning of Ultimate Peter's death by wearing Black - like you would at a funeral.

Also, Miles doesn't need a "dark side".

>>79126992
I think I know what you're trying to say.
>>
>>79126981
That is what the Clark Kent Reporter side of him is for to contrast his reality and show his humble-ness, Superman is a ideal he should look like one.
>>
>>79126956
Anon.

They're saying it is great, but for an older Superman. One who's explored his origins, made trusted connections to people with access to extensive tech, and become a symbol of his era.

But for the first costume he gets, it doesn't reflect where he's coming from now does it leave him room to have his costume change to reflect his experience and growth.

You don't begin with an endgame appearance.

Calm down bro.

See >>79126977 >>79127047.

It's about seeing what Superman would wear based on his characterization.

Yes, he's an alien - but for most of his early life, he has no idea who he really is and where he comes from. Even after manifesting his powers and learning that he's the odd one out, he still clings to what he's known most of his life - humanity.

I personally LOVE the New 52 Costume, but Superman needed to be eased into it.

Once he learns the truth about who he is as a Kryptonian, and allows some time for the knowledge to marinate in his mind, THEN he accepts his heritage and begins to wear Kryptonian Clothing as a mature adult.

>but Superman needed to be eased into it.
Which is what happened, does no on remember the t-shirt and jeans?
>>
>>79127044
I just disagree with your interpretation that Superman being the ideal needs to go heavy with the sci-fi. His general presence should be grand, but that comes from the guy not the suit. How he looks, how he stands. But the ideal that he stands for is also a warm person who is approachable rather than an alien warrior kind of thing, which is why I don't don't like the armor on him.

This is what I mean by there being no middle ground. This is such an emotional thing when it comes to how people interpret him and what they are responding to.
>>
>>79127132
I fucking despise the collar. That alone makes it the worst thing he's ever worn.

But to be fair with your example. The Black guy could be trying to reconnected with his lost history. He's African, but no one in his family remembers anything about where they're from, or how they behaved, etc.

Actually, that's like the perfect analogy for Superman and Kryptonian Culture. He has the general characteristics of a Kryptonian, but he doesn't know ANYTHING about that culture, until another Kryptonian comes around and tells him.

The Symbiont is fine when done right.
When it's just "magic black oil that does whatever it wants", it's stupid (but sometimes fun).

It reaches full potential when it feels truly alien and dangerous.

There's one issue of something or other involving one of the children of Carnage, iirc, and the host describes how it feels to take some on the extreme forms the Symbiont forces upon the host's body. Something how the pain of having his bones dislocated and broken feels go good.

Art with depth and visual beauty IS substance.

I am very meh on Jim Lee, I can like his design and not necessarily like him.
Liefeld has absolutely no style, he is nothing but a mass of incompetent scribbles.

Because I like Superman's idealistic personality, but I HATE when he is drawn bright, campy, silly and cartoony.

Pic Related for example, is more inspiring, hopeful and beautifully rendered than someone like say... Darwin Cooke has ever done in my book. (I like Cooke, but still)

This post as well as all the pictures you've posted as an example kind of makes me question whether you're actually debating in favor of the armor or if you just find it to be symbolic of the style of comic art that you favor. Which isn't bad of course, but it's not the same discussion as the armor is not always drawn like that (and tends to look almost like building blocks in terms of bulkiness when drawn by most artists).

But personally I don't think it being armor adds much here >>79128415. The t-shirt and jeans costume drawn in that style in the background still looks better to me.

I think the lines and plates lends themselves to additional shadows and rendering coming across out of the contours of the material.

Bermejo can do plenty of depth without it, but other artist can't.

I personally never ever saw it as armor visually, just as a thicker leather like material rather than cloth.
