In Season 2 they were afraid of getting stale already so they didn't reuse anything except for little scraps, like Bird Person. They'll probably expand more on established elements in season 3 now that they feel comfortable. It seemed like that was a big thing in the commentary and the interview, they'd get really stuck at points and the only way to fix it was to write some silly-ass R&M shit. That's how the season 2 finale got shortened to one episode and the purge episode got put in instead. They couldn't make it cool enough so they just said fuck it and wrote about the duo visiting a purge world.

They're the worst part of the show. I hate how they will have some big emotional moment at the end of one episode, like finding out their alternate selves were miserable single and they would get together anyways, and then next episode they hate each other again like nothing happened.
If they don't want to give them development then just have them fight all the time and leave out the big "we were meant to be together" moments because its irritating when they then turn around and ignore it.
