>But the buzz behind the scenes on Bernthal’s take on the character has been pretty positive, and that’s why there’s talk of him getting his own series.
>Bernthal has received high praise from producers, writers, fellow actors, and executives alike for his portrayal of the gun-toting vigilante who thinks the only way to combat the criminal element is with lethal force.
>"[Jon Bernthal's] Punisher is extraordinarily memorable, in every way," Marvel TV Executive Vice President Jeph Loeb told ComicBook.com earlier this week.

Season 1 of Punisher: Storyline and actors.

Go.

Punisher: the Musical.

It's gold, I tell you.

Frank usually takes out hordes of fodder, then 1 or 2 "named" badguys who are technically throw-aways.

Either way, this is the kinda series I'm looking forward too, if the rumours are true. It's getting around quite a bit, even facebook has it on their front page news listings.

I want to know the secret of Frank's staying power, you'd think a character that deals in absolutes, and shoots conveniently the right ethnic groups would be long gone by the end of the 80s.

Because there is true satisfaction in watching terrible people get brutally murdered
That's it
Frank's at his best when he's basically a force of nature who destroys evil
>>
Punisher works as a guest in other's titles, but there's no depth to someone who just kills a bunch of mafia goons they create for a small story arc. It's fucking stupid to give him a show.

It worked for four seasons of Strike Back.

Bad.
>>
The funny thing is that the Punisher is not a unique character as far as comicbook movies go.
It's hard to find one that doesn't kill the bad guy so the Punisher has no special impact like he does in comics.
>>
>>79061019
It worked for The Parker books and men's adventure novels. I think too many people are used to character driven narratives, Frank is as genre fiction as it gets, I'm surprised writers managed to keep his introspection for so long.
>>
>>79061114

Yeah but I wanted to use a more modern example. All that old 70's pulp doesn't mean much to people any more as we saw that that travesty of a Parker movie from a couple years ago.
>>

How'd they find the guy Steve Dillon has been drawing all these years?

pulp noir is hard-boiled, among other things. the difference is hard-boiled is one man against the world, while pulp noir is a one man army against the world.

>>79061506
I actually really like this idea.

Make the Punisher more of an off-screen force-of-nature. Have the detectives as the main characters who deal with the more human elements of the story while the Punisher just fucks shit up.
>>
>>79061806
Sounds like Ruckas take. Punisher was a ghost in the first half of that run. When he made his appearances, he was scary as hell. The bar where he first shows up was fucking awesome.

That would be a pretty neat stylistic touch. It could be overdone but done properly would let us see that Frank's not just doing this half assed. He's prepared.

Imagine a scene where Frank's in one room and a half dozen thugs are charging down the hallway. It slows down and Frank starts narrating a list of chemicals. Just as the thugs get to the door, Frank's homemade explosive goes off.

Most good Frank stories aren't really about Frank. At most they can analyze the type of crazy shit that has to be in your mind to turn you into the Punisher. Frank is the slasher in slasher movies except he always wins in the end. Jason will never stop killing sexy teens and Frank will never stop killing criminals.

Instead, the stories are about everyone around Frank. They're about the kinds of evil in this world that would make you wish a guy like Frank was real. They're about the good guys who are maybe a bad day away from being the Punisher. They're about the good guys who could never be the Punisher. Victims and bystanders. And how they all react to and deal with the most prolific serial killer of all time.

It's also nice to throw in some villains who represent current issues, just for the vicarious thrill of watching Frank blow up a boat full of Enron guys.

Is Frank the most successful serial killer in the Marvel Universe?

>>
>>79061806
This would be ideal, have a small roster of characters who deal with Frank's bullshit, think something along the lines of True Detective.

I'm curious as to whether or not they're going to have Frank monologue, because watching an angsty mass murderer not talking to anybody may get boring
>>
>>79060525
Silly anon. That's exactly why he's got staying power. The crime that frank deals with didn't go away, and isn't going away, and it's shit people deal with more directly in their lives.

Other comics don't handle it, because it's a bad fit for the power level, tone ect.

And because in America, lots of criminal cases are solved by shooting the fuck out of the criminal.

Would it be too much to hope that the Punisher series not take place in NYC? I mean, I know Marvel made a big deal that all their shows will be filmed in that city, but the Punisher is a character who never settles down in one spot. He goes to country to country, city to city to break up the biggest crime dens. To have him based in NYC, along with the four other Netflix heroes, makes it seem like overkill. DD took down Kingpin, Jessica killed Purple Man, I'm sure Cage and Fist will kill their respective villains, adding Frank on top of that, and they'll run out of villains to put in these series!
>>
True lanez

>>79064433
Thanos just killed half the entire universe during Infinity Gauntlet. But they came back, and most of Frank's victims don't.
>>
What I'd love to see in the series-
>First episode- origin of the Punisher, show him coming back from /a war/ to his family, cut in shots of him raising his family with an expanding crime scene. Have the shooting go down, show Frank struggling to cope, have him violently stop a shakedown at a store, beginning of the Punisher
>Following episodes- start establishing the world. Frank meets Micro, a crooked detective starts the Frank Files, see Frank get into his groove dealing with criminals
>Mid season arc- the Slavers
>Season finale- the Cell
>Final scene- show a crime boss flipping through a list of contacts, gets on the phone with them. Camera pans down to the name in the contact list showing only: Barracuda
>>
>>79062213
I think it would be better from the other side. Some hot shot mob boss goes into a slow-mo internal monologue about the fancy martial arts he's about to pull, then he just gets brutally franked. The last bit of the scene would be him lying there, broken and bloody, looking up at Frank in shock
>>
>>79067233
Micro needs to work as one thing and one thing only - info. He hacks databases, pulls up classified info, so on, and his overall use should be limited. Frank should get his equipment from somewhere else, or some other contact or something. Or he should just have it already since he knows where local military stores the pewpew.

A morally unbalanced black and white vigilante as the main character with other personalities to bounce off of would make a great show. Why do you think Punisher comics are so fun to read? Not just the action, but also for his inner monologue and his obviously fucking dilapitating PTSD. Soap, Gnucci, his supporting cast all add character and color.
