>aneurysm kill people, they weren't aneurysms.

That's a misconception; they're not always fatal. As medical imaging technology has improved, it has become apparent that aneurysm is a relatively common condition - but in most individuals is, at the time of medical imaging, not yet developed enough to warrant surgical or other intervention (which is important, because intervention actually has a relatively high mortality rate and level of impact on quality of life following - whereas you can live with aneurysm/s, or other problems in the brain and elsewhere in the body, for years and enjoy a far greater quality of life than you would likely have following medical intervention, so you can end up dying needlessly on an operating table, or becoming severely disabled by medical intervention when you would otherwise have been likely to enjoy many years of unchanged quality of life before medical intervention, and the associated risks, became worthwhile).

So to say "aneurysm" prevents mystic bullshit from working by damaging but not destroying the area of the brain that the mystic bullshit is generated/controlled by (which must be capable of dealing with some fairly heavy shit compared to what the rest of the pink mush that runs you is capable of) is relatively OK; it just means that, in this instance, we're talking about the least serious, asymptomatic aneurysms that you or I or anybody might walk around with unwittingly. I would also have accepted magic parasites from another dimension, as their cysts would likely have a similar effect, and Korra could wipe them out with magic bullshit or psychic leukocytes or some shit.

>>

>>
>>79030778
Beg to differ. Zahir was written pretty amazingly. I wanted to sympathize with him, but he was just too extreme and hypocritical. But to each their own I guess.
>>
>>79030730
Unalaq ended up about a million miles from his good intentions.
>>
>>79030823
I felt the fact that he was an anarchist wasn't justified well enough. He lacked any good motivation or philosophical besides a few bits of proverbs. And his plan was so haphazard and 'make it up as we go along' it was hard to tell what his in goal actually was and how these things he's doing would achieve it in a way that would make me buy it and say "this guy might be able to do what he says he will" but fundamentally we know he won't.
>>
>>79031048

I dunno, it never bothered me that he didn't have an intricate backstory to his anarchism. Sometimes people just believe what they believe, man.
>>
>>79031129
It bothers me. I can't see him as anything more than a rouge dumbass.
>>
>>79030180
This also would've forced them to spend some more time fleshing out Republic City, showing us a multicultural, post industrial Avatar world, instead of giving us a glimpse of it then fucking off to the featureless South Pole
>>
>>79028631
I really liked the idea of a post-industrial society that has machines that can do a bender's job suddenly deciding benders are fucking scary. I liked the idea of Amon's revolution gaining speed in Republic City, a place that doesn't necessarily have strong cultural ties to bending (his anti-bending rhetoric probably would've gone no place in the Fire Nation, Earth Kingdom, or in one of the Water Tribe settlements). And despite the repeated assertion I see here that everyone lost interest in Amon after learning his backstory, I really liked the idea of a bender who genuinely wanted to get rid of bending, someone who understands exactly what sort of shit a bender is capable of when they're strong enough and doesn't want to see that shit happening.
>>
>>79031377
Republic City was just "industrial".
>>
>>79031377

While the idea behind post-reveal Amon is interesting, the execution remains terrible.

Having a good idea is easy as fuck. Ideas are the simplest part of the writing process. Executing that idea in an entertaining and skillful way is where things fall flat, and Amon falls so flat he barely qualifies as 2-dimensional.

Amon could've been so FUCKING cool. Just imagine for a second that Amon's backstory was actually what we were originally told: a nonbender whose family was slaughtered and his face immeasurably scarred. Someone who has legitimate grievances with bending. A man whose life was defined by this hate, and yet he was chosen by the spirits to bring balance.

Can you even imagine the development Amon and Korra would have to go through in order to end the series as two halves of the same coin, working together towards balance? That could've been FUCKING. AWESOME. It'd even explain why she couldn't connect with the spirits- Amon was given that gift.

Or at the very least don't undermine his threat and the rising movement that follows him. "Oh this one guy was a liar I guess that means I no longer have a problem with benders lol". I mean look at how goddamn terrifying this son of a bitch was:

Literally this. I have to assume they originally had more episodes before Nick cut the budget down to just S1, so they had to resolve everything way quicker than it was supposed to be. I refuse to believe the people that wrote Zuko pulled this horseshit.

Or maybe Brkye really is animation's George Lucas, and various writers like Aaron Ehasz are the real genius of the original series.
>>
>>79036063
They didn't write Zuko on their own though, there was a whole team helping them out. I'm even pretty sure that a lot of what they initially wanted to do with the show was changed by the other writers.

It was, but they were the ones in charge of the entire project. In Atla, they were more equals with the others, and atleast on paper, worked under someone else. Essentially others had the power to say no to them.

She had lost before that point. More specificly when she trapped his arms with water and he wrested control of it from her, then dragged her over and pulled Raava out.

She also lost once before that and had to rely on Raava to save her from Unalaq.

Had Korra been more competent as a fighter, Unalaq would never had been in a position to use that trick on her. Even the fact that they were fairly even during the fight shows that she was pretty incompetent during book 2.
>>
>>79041148
Are you fucking stupid
>>
If you could rewrite the Korra Asami relationship(but you still have to make them gay), how would you do it?
>>
>>79041223
I don't agree with that assertion at all. He created a stalemate. There's no advantage to that in terms of bending combat. She was destroying him before that, and she was about to break the stalemate with firebending from her mouth when she got a mouth full of spirit gunk. When he pulled Raava out, he severely weakened her. That's why she couldn't fight back, not because she was injured from before.

Did you even watch the show?
>>
>>79041461
So you agree that he was able to fight her to a stalemate from a disadvantaged position and win the stalemate with a move she didn't know he had, but she could have fought back against.

It's not a problem that she didn't fight back after Raava had been removed. It's a problem what she ended up in that position because she had every advantage over him and he still fought better than her. She had all elements, full control of her Avatar state and had more friends to help her out, but she wasn't able to use any of it, that seems like incompetence to me.

And that's regarding the fight alone. Nevermind that all of it could have been avoided if she and her friends had thought the situation through before attempting to fix an issue that didn't exist.
>>
>>79041424
I wouldn't, i'd rather keep them in character.

Does anyone have the post that the pic responds to?

So? He still has a good point.

Bending in LoK is just a sad sight.

He didn't fight her to a stalemate. That would be if the fight ended and neither combatant won. He created a temporary stalemate that restricted both their movement. From that position, he was able to surprise and overwhelm her with something she could not have predicted.

With you faggots, it's either a character is being a Mary Sue or they're incompetent. Nevermind that Korra is weak from being imprisoned and having fallen from the fucking sky as well as being demoralized from everything or that Unalaq is well-rested and supremely confident in his victory. Or that she's only eighteen fucking years old and her brain hasn't fully matured yet. You're looking at it from a viewer's perspective, instead of actually thinking about what a character is going through.

Jesus Christ

To this day I'm still pissed Nick dicked LoK around pre-production with that "it's a miniseries! no wait we'll give you two seasons! no wait just one so make it count!!!! actually have four." garbage. all it did was lead up to season after season of cool ideas but poor and rushed execution.

Never watched Avatar.
>We are ~65-75% water
>Waterbenders not the most op-class
Can someone explain this to me other than
>it's just a cartoon Anon

It's the water equivalent of an Earthbender trying to use metal. Not impossible, but bullshit hard, so not everyone can do it.

That's still fighting her to a stalemate and then overwhelming her with his power. She had the advantage and lost.

You're forgetting that Korra is supposed to be a master of 3 elements and have serious training in the 4th. That she has the full experience of 10k years of avatars. That Unalaq is only a master waterbender and has never before used the Avatar State. By all accounts a figh should be Korras preferred scenario because that's what she excels at, while Unalaq is portrayed as a person who is more about manipulation.

Some things are viewed from an outside perspective, but especially during book 2 Korra makes decisions that doesn't make sense, and this fight in particular is a problem because of the actions thats happen, not because of viewer perspecive.

You're also the first one to bring up mary-sue in this discussion. And i think it's quite clear that Korra was incompetent throughout book 2 from the looks of everything.

I stopped reading before the first "and." You're hopelessly deluded. I regret taking the time to bother with you.

The equalists were such a cool idea, I wish they weren't disposed of so quickly.
>>
>>79042254
Impressive argument. You even said yourself it was a stalemate, so good job on you.
>>
>>79040556
both of my statements are true. Korra is the one that liberated Vaatu, and she lost due to incompetence, against a guy that doesn't have past lives experiences and only have one bending.

This is fucking hilarious

They could have lasted longer for sure. I also think the Red Lotus could have used more screentime, especially after the reveal that they had minions.

Air Bending uses a different Chi flow.
All of the bending types do. Thats why the combat styles work differently, and the moves flow differently between bending.

That said, World Building is fucking awful in Korra, at the least from a extension standpoint.
There is toy anime that does that job better.
