Too little, too late. He was such a tease on this one.

Speaking of Kaluta and little known comics, Starstruck was even more gorgeous. Flew under the radar, despite the crazy amount of world building it did (back in the early 80s, no less), but it's certainly an enjoyable space romp. Shame about the IDW recoloring.

WAAAY better than Demon Knights.

And since the flavor of the thread is Vertigo so far, I'm calling attention to Peter Milligan's handful of one shots that, according to the "general weirdness in comics" thread from a couple of days ago, didn't get the recognition they deserve. I already showed Face, but The Extremist and The Eaters are just as crazy and well crafted.

Madame Xanadu is awesome. I picked up the first trade for my wife and got hooked myself. I still need to read the last two trades though.

Another one I'm shocked didn't catch on (now that we're posting Big Two) is the DeMatteis/Sharp Man-Thing from Heroes Reborn. A great writer making what would've been one of his best works with an artist who could juggle a number of different styles adequately.

I agree. Guess I'll post more since no one else is.

Man-Thing reminded of another overlooked DeMatteis work in Blood: A Tale. Came out on Epic a couple of years after Moonshadow, but while most find the latter to be his masterpiece, I think it's a tad overwrought and bloated. Blood has almost the opposite problem, "suffering" from obtuseness and a general lack of clarity, but I think it reads nicer as an "experience" kind of thing. Druggy, spaced out comics are the best.

Read that series while it was coming out. Madame Xanadu quickly became one of my waifus. Really great series.

And "classic creator makes trippy forgotten IP" leads to Darklon the Mystic. It may read like a rough draft to The Metamorphosis Odyssey (which I guess belongs here, too, but I've already written about that) at points, but it has enough identity and imagination of its own to warrant a mention. A few Morrisonisms in here, too; I know he's a big fan of Warlock, but I'm not sure if Grant's read this.

Ostrander's bibliography could almost all be posted in this thread.

Fittingly enough, his best work is also his first and least known. 81 issues of flawlessly written comics, spanning just about every genre there is.
