That's a good idea. Having Pearl trapped gives plenty of opportunities for further development, and also gives the option for her to still be loyal to Rose (maybe). Like, she was cracked and trapped by the diamond authority right around the time the rebellion started, and perhaps she was trying to, sorta, talk Rose down from a ledge when it happened. Like "I'll stick by you, but this plan is duuuumb". So the rest of the Crystal Gems either never met her or only did for a brief time before she was captured.

Rose attacks with Lapis or Peridot.
Rubies fuse. They fail.
Lapis/Peri has Sapphire cornered.
Ruby and Sapphire fuse. Rose retreats.
Garnet unfuses. BD says Ruby will be shattered for this. Instead of escaping, Jasper blocks Sapphire's path, presumptuously taking that honor for herself. R/S realize they need to fuse to survive, and manage to do so, having just enough together using Sapphire's future vision to duck out of the way.
Jasper is pissed off and comes back for another attack, but this one hits a pillar, breaking it. The ceiling starts crumbling but Jasper has tunnel vision on Garnet. Jasper hits another pillar and the roof begins to cave in. Garnet leaps up and stops the roof from falling on BD. The roof falls on Jasper along with some dignitaries.
It's much worse for a Jasper to nearly poof a Diamond, and Garnet gets a pass because she stopped it, and unlike the accident, it was a combat situation.

Alright, let me know what you think sucks and what does not suck. I'll list backstories and current problems that I personally have with it right now. Once that's figured out I can pinpoint specific characterization, though a couple anons already gave really great ideas for a few of the gems last thread.

Garnet saves BD from Jasper, who was trying to hit Garnet for fusing. So, BD doesn't freak out over the fusing like she did originally. The point is, she's allowed to stay on the side of homeworld due to her success in battle. Fusion is still frowned upon, but Garnet gets away with it- and even then, she is viewed as a freak, a threat, a weapon, and will never be respected in gem society.
Amy is saved by Garnet before she was shattered because Garnet empathizes with the plight of being viewed as wrong down to your very core.
Pearl is still the Morton Salt Girl for Rose, same as she ever was, but is cracked and trapped early on in the rebellion. She wakes up pissed off at homeworld for what they did, obviously, and pissed off at the Crystal Gems for "killing rose".
Lapis is sent in an earlier wave of gems to Earth than canon and thus has time to make friends and grow fond of Humans. It's because of this she sides with Rose and is subsequently never trapped in the mirror.
Peridot- still not sure about her. I like the idea of her simply appreciating that Rose actually values her and her input, because that feels close to her character, but at the same time I've gotta wonder if it's okay to fudge the timeline like that- I mean Peridot is clearly a new gem, relatively speaking, and probably wouldn't be working with Rose pre-rebellion.
Jasper, due to the Garnet incident, must flee, and ends up indebted to, and eventually joining, Rose's Rebellion.

I think Peridot's backstory in general has timeline issues, and I, a little bit worry if it's even the right motivation for her to join Rose.
ALSO, as one anon pointed out, how do the gems feel about fusing? Does Rose change their minds about it? Do they still feel the same? Not really a backstory question, so it's sort of jumping the gun, but still, something to think about.
OH, and one last random thought. Maybe it's shit. What if the incident in which Pearl was cracked and trapped- it was Garnet, which would give another reason for Pearl to be pissed, and why BD would be okay with Garnet.

Jasper takes Garnet's place in this instance - Ruby and Sapphire were with Homeworld until that moment. In this instance, Jasper was with Homeworld and after Garnet fused and Rose left, tried to take the honor of shattering Ruby herself. Sapphire won't allow it and fuses with Ruby. Jasper ends up ruining everything in the process. BD throws Jasper out after the ceiling collapses on everyone but BD, because Garnet saw it coming and pulled a Get Down Mr. President.
And speaking of Get Down Mr. President, you can throw this out and have Garnet sense Peridot about to take a shot at BD herself, and Garnet blocks it, but that would require Jasper to already be on Rose's side, meaning you need some other way for that to work.
