I don't like Yost much. Scarlet Spider was alright but I feel it's overrated here. Didn't like what he did with New Mutants either but on X-Force he was getting on the right(-er, his treatment of Rahne was fairly disappointing as well) track. I believe that with some time he could've settled all the things he shook up but both books ended before that happened so I guess I'll never know for sure.
Scott Lobdell did a better job on GenX than anyone else. Scott fucking Lobdell was better than Larry Hama and James Robinson. I liked Starman but damn, I don't think Robinson has anything else redeemable about him.

Try The Killing Joke, The Dark Knight Returns, Arkham Asylum or The Long Halloween. Getting into comics really isn't that hard, there's tons of comics that aren't from the big two so you can just pick up issue one and see if you like it. For Marvel and DC you gotta remember these characters have been written by multiple authors so everyone has shitty stories. It's a good idea to follow writers not characters. You can find out which stories are considered a characters best by googling, lurking comic threads or asking some comic readers.

I haven't actually been following capeshit outside of what I've been reading on here for years. Last time I tried to keep up with DC was around the beginning of the nu52. I don't even really read Marvel all that much anymore, although I'm looking to get back into it, since I did like what I read of Kamala Kahn Ms. Marvel. Also the exception is stuff that I'm really interested in, particularly Grant Morrison's work. I read the shit out of The Multiversity and loved the hell out of it.
I don't know how much of a 'confession' this is, but honestly by this point, people who act like they know so much about capeshit and the like because they watched a few of the movies and/or the tv shows but actually don't know shit and have never opened up a comic before annoy me more than the outright plebs who would never, ever watch a superhero movie or anything geeky like that. At least those people aren't posers. It's always so annoying talking to someone who thinks they know comic books, cartoons or shit but is actually a massive pleb.
I didn't like Young Justice even though I was super hyped for it.

I think cartoon creators are so shit at attempting comedy that people have become accustomed to it. That's the only explanation I can come up with for people thinking Adventure Time(now) and Steven Universe is funny. Cartoons were a lot funnier when I was in school and it's not just nostalgia glasses. I go through and watch old cartoons I saw as a kid a lot and they still crack me up. I've never once laughed at SU, Gravity Falls or current Adventure Time.

MCU is assembly line uninspired amrketting garbage with not variation in the majority of its content.
MOS, while flawed was really fucking good on a technical level and had a different tone than the majority of cape films and i liked Clark's characterization as well as the choice to let Lois know early on he was Supes, plus the music is really damn good, the villain is amazing, the action i find very unique and everything seems to have weight to it and i appreciate that the film in the film has proper pacing and moments where it shuts the fuck up and lets us soak in whats happened and enjoy a scene for its atmosphere and tone.
Plus, supes never had a no kill rule, so that didnt bug me in the slightest, zod had to die.

I got into comic because of Kickass. The neon primary and secondary colors, action, and style really appealed to me, and this was before i saw the movie mind you. Saw the trailer, looked cool, dropped 10 bucks on the comic, enjoyed it.

I wish I were into more indie titles, but I can't seem to find any I truly enjoy. Asking for recommendations nets results that resemble a high school reading list. Like they're not being suggested for their entertainment value, but because you're supposed to read them at a certain point. I don't want a damn history lesson in "the medium", I want something I can love and gush about like The Tick or the Heckler.
I love all the DCTV stuff that's airing and in the works, but I'd trade it all back for a more stable comics universe.
