Glad you think so. Hopefully the non-linear chronology doesn't throw too many people off - my RL test audience had completely missed all the hints I'd thrown in and had no idea what was going on.

Anyway, I think I actually got this page into a viewable state even though the background in panel 2 is a bit of a mess.

I'd worry about having them turn into poseless black blobs if you pose them with their limbs in front of their bodies.

Lol, technically she's from a children's book. Wasnt sure if I should include her.

Aw man, Aerin's been on hiatus for a year and a half now. Technically, I can't post it here, since my writer owns 50% of Aerin intellectually, and he'd prefer to keep it off 4chan. But I would definitely love to get back on this. Maybe even restart some of it.
When I had AerinComic.com, it just felt like I was posting it to no one, so my creative energy on that just got sapped.

Our colorist did a great job though.

The (hopefully) final version of page 2. Penciller has yet to OK it before upload, and he's not happy about the green splash on the bottom left panel (character colours that go on their uniforms being used as dynamic intro backgrounds).

I like the lurid rainbow, but I get why he's feeling uneasy about it. Thoughts?

The Sisters Update: 3-Pager.
Priorities are had, games are played, and Craig is actually setting some very healthy boundaries. Because if you're in a relationship you shouldn't leave someone hanging when you're hurting; especially if they can help.

Maybe not help so much against an evil wizard; but that's life.

http://tapastic.com/episode/263654
http://thesisters-comic.com/

Also fixed up the archive on the main site. And going to storytime the whole fucking thing tomorrow, because why not. We're far enough in. Maybe not far enough in this issue, but far enough in general.

Work's kicking my ass. How're you guys doing?
>>
>>79001213
it's sad to me how anti-cling our society seems to be. as if we're turning japanese or something. People act like it's intrinsically kind to give someone space or leave them out of things when you're hurting. I'll take aaany excuse to pour out my copious sympathy, man. You can come to me when you stub your toe.
>>

I always see you posting photographs of cour comic here; do you upload the finished versions somewhere else?

>>79001213
And going to storytime the whole fucking thing tomorrow, because why not. We're far enough in.

I was thinking of doing that as well sometimes soon

I think I'm far enough into the comic that people can give their general impression of the writing, among other things. Plus since the comic in on hiatus ATM I figured "why not?"
I'm just afraid that it'll come out as purely shilling
>>
What I was working on. I had about half of chapter storyboarded out, and picking random panels to complete each day.

I probably should research a bit more about the tropes that appear in the magical girl genre, because I can probably use it in the part of the storyboard that cames up.

For reference I bought a copy of the zodiac star force issue 1... it was the impetus for me to restart my comic, because I think I can do better than that. I actually got the comic itself so I can get a sense of what people are looking for nowadays, but it turn out wasn't as useful as I had hoped. To put it charitably, this comic just wasn't for me, the art, the story, the characters. And I write my own story for people like me.

I wasn't sure what i was thinking.

by necessity, plastic-on-plastic is different from graphite/metal on paper. it takes a lot of getting used to and it may never have quite the same level of perfect input, but it's worth it for things being digitized instantly. You just have to zoom in for the fine details whereas on paper with a pencil you didn't have to zoom

the pen tools aren't opaque? what? or do you mean transparency, and you're that anon from before who confuses the two.

in any case do you mean the look of the lines being more natural and less artificial, or the strokes looking more natural? because the latter is accomplished by making a lot of long and fast strokes and just erasing or undoing the bad ones.. plus a lot of practice. the former is just brush settings (and i think the tool to use in that case IS the brush, with flow turned up all the way)

Yes but it's a whole different process. With Manga Studio, you have to go into your materials and mess around with your brush tip when SAI just had a drop down menu that's a little easier and less finite to mess with. But that's just because I work predominantly in SAI. TL:DR: Yes.

>>
>>79020586
yes but what I meant was, 25 percent height and 25 percent width?? or 50 percent in both directions, meaning 25 percent of the AREA of the original. Because that's what I do.
25 percent of height and also of width means the total is 1/16th the area of the original.. which I don't even know the percent for. I guess it'd be .25 times .25.. which is something like .06-ish

For storytelling/composition: It's Sophie Campbell's Wet Moon all the way. Though recently Bryan Lee O'Malley's newish book "Seconds" hit me right in the brain.

For Character Design:
Genndy Tartakovksy (Mostly Samurai Jack and Clone Wars), Alex Toth, and recently just a bit of Steven Universe. Andrew Maclean's Headlopper and Apocalyptigirl are also fantastic for designs or general mark-making.

Backgrounds: I dig Kevin Dart and Elle Michalka a whole bunch.

Right, I just spent about four hours trying to flesh out some of the fictional countries I made up, and this is much bullshit harder than it sounds. Do you have ANY idea the sheer amount of detail that goes into making a nation? Even in a broad sense, there's so much crap that defines a society, its government, what kind of buildings they use, what they eat, what they do for fun, cultural rituals, the actual size of the place, the cities and towns, the branches of government, the actual people in charge, the economy, government policy, population and demographics, geological location, relationship with other nations, what's considered normal and what's taboo, basic etiquette, and a hundred other things. And keep in mind that I swore to myself that I would never wholesale copy a real world country, a decision I'm starting to regret.

So anyone got any tips? The story is sort of a world tour kind of deal, so it's actually pretty important that I define all these cultures. It's just that so is a bit of a pain in the ass.

My influences are diverse, mostly because I transitioned different phases in my life, my current work is pretty much getting back to my initial influences, with local comic writers and artists like Robin Wood and Carlos Vogt. I love the work produced by those two, and I aimed for something like that. Considering my current work is kind of biographic, I wanted to do something easier to relate to. A kind of story that is not made for just laughs, but for those who enjoy the little things in life. (pic related)

Question though, is this a world unified under one culture or one of many different cultures?
I'd love to help you with this if I can. I'm currently world-building this super large project called Ardras, it might be good for us to bounce questions off one another.
>>
>>79037796
>Question though, is this a world unified under one culture or one of many different cultures?
Many different cultures. The whole "planet with one culture" thing annoys me to no end, since that's extremely unlikely to ever happen anywhere. People don't agree on how to live even within the same group.

>I'm currently world-building this super large project called Ardras, it might be good for us to bounce questions off one another.
Sure. Judging by your map(which I am jealous of, since I can't draw maps for shit), Ardras is a country, yes?
>>
>>79037992
Ardras is a pangea like continent, the countries are the different regions marked on the map.

So, lets start with the basics, what is the climate and terrain of each region in your world? Climate and terrain have a lot do with shaping your culture.

Here's some info on Chillrend if you're interested. It's highly influenced by Norse and Inuit cultures, I'm trying to make a hybrid culture from them. So it's pretty much Skyrim with warrior Eskimos.

CHILLREND-The Isolationist Nation

Chillrend is the isolationist nation that refuses to join Aristolia's trade network, preferring to depend on its own hardiness to survive. Located in the northern mountains of Ardras, part of the mountain range known as The Spine, life is much more difficult in the cold snow and rocky mountains, but the denizens of Chillrend persevere. Dense forests, iron mines, and silver mines, make up what is known as Chillrend, which is known for its fierce warriors, whose weapons are made from the very silver and iron that makes agriculture so difficult there. From a young age, Chillrendian children are taught how to survive, many do not grow into adulthood. People in this nation do not believe in charity, and are insulted when offered something that is not theirs,if you desire something, then you must take it. To be given something for nothing in return is considered a sign of weakness, and that you are unfit to survive, it is the Chillrendian way. Some other cultures see this as barbaric, but Chillrendians care little for the opinions of lesser nations, and have grown strong, despite their circumstances. As a rite of passage, children of this country are left out in the wilderness for days to fend for themselves, when they conquer their trials, they are accepted as adults into society. However, many of this country's leaders wish to seek out warmer climates, and have turned their eyes south, and have set in motion to conquer the lesser nations of Ardras. Can they be stopped? Or will the world leaders know the true power of the icy fist of the north?
>>
>>79038453
Leader(s): Five Clan Leaders
Motto: "If you desire something, then you must take it."
Main Export: Does not participate in trade
Main Import: Does not participate in trade
Military: Very powerful, full of hardened warrior who have persevered against the harsh elements.
Economy: Very powerful, isolationist nation, has turned to the sea for food.
Religion: Believe they are descendants of an ancient ice dragon who rests atop The Eye, the highest peak in Chillrend.
Ecology: Barren and cold but with dense forests in the southern and eastern regions, home to deer and other woodland creatures.
Architecture: Wooden and stone huts, lumber is an important and vital resource, and most of their buildings are made from it.

Cities:
Bloodrash- The capital of Chillrend, led by Clan Leader Herashes, the mighty daughter of the snow, known for her mighty axe, who cleaved a gargantuan bear in two. Bloodrash is situated at the mouth of an icy river leading out into the northern ocean. It is known as the birthplace of the mighty nation, whose people are said to have descended from the mountain known as The Eye.

The Eye- A small town high in the mountains of Chillrend, considered sacred ground by some, it is said only the wise may enter this place, and commune with the dragon spirit that guards its icy peaks. It is lead by Clan Leader Harkon, the wise old man of winter, whose mighty staff called forth the ice dragon from his slumber to impart the greatest wisdoms upon him.

Timberest- A town hidden in the dense forests of Chillrend, led by the Clan Leader Herof, the agile young son of the forest, whose mighty spear drove away the maddened beasts who threatened to overrun the village, it is best known for supplying the lumber that is much needed for constructing homes and towns in the north.
>>
>>79038453
Icehammer- A town on the northernmost point of the world, it overlooks the great icelands of the north, where no man would survive. It is led by Clan Leader Heracule, the hardy father of fortune, whose mighty hammer cracked open the silver veins of the mountains, and brought riches and wealth to the land.

Coldshore- A town on the western coast of the nation, led by Clan Leader Hermesa, the frigid mother of ice, whose mighty longsword drove back the invaders from the sea, this town is known for its whales and fish, and supplies the nation with most of its food.

So lets take a look at what we've got so far.
So we've got four major powers.

Aquatic creatures living underwater. Are they sentient? If they are, do they have architecture? What do they eat? Who holds the power? How does their environment affect their culture? Are there unique terrain features such as trenches or coral reefs? What do they think is "beautiful?"

A desert theocracy. What god or gods rule their pantheon? How do they affect the life of the everyday citizen? What about nobles? Are there nobles? What is the class heirarchy? Who gets to eat first? Desert terrains are harsh environments, how do the people deal with the dangers of their environment?

A militaristic empire in the mountains. Why are they militaristic? Are they seeking new resources? Did they move into the mountains because of certain circumstances? Have they always been there? How did they come to be living there? Is it cold in these mountains? Or is it more like the mountains and hills of England? Grassy and wet. Who do they see as their foes, who are their allies?

A tribal confederacy in the lower depth swamps. What are the terms of their confederacy? Are these different races making one unified organization? Or are they the same race, but with different viewpoints? How has living in the swamps affected their lifestyle? What do they eat?

And lastly, how do these regions interact? Many early civilizations cultures and religions are based on the heavens, the sky above them. What role does the gas giant play in their religions? Are they aware that the gas giant is a celestial body? Or is it something more to them? Does the gas giant eclipse between the moon and the sun? What do they call these long periods of darkness and how do they react to them?
Do these regions hate eachother? Do they trade? Are they all vying for power? What is their purpose behind fighting or aiding one another?

These are all questions you dont have to answer immediately if you can't. But food 4thought
>>
>>79038697
Haha, yeah, not all of them are on board with this idea though, some see it as a sign of weakness. Others think of it as a smart idea. It has risen some conflicts between the clans.

As for Clan Leader Herashes, well, so long as you like getting your dick ripped off and fed to hungry bears, and then being tied up and serving as her fuck boi, then yeah, you'll be fine.

The Dratzi are indeed sapient, and at cyberpunk levels in fact. They kinda look like a combination of Zoras from The Legend of Zelda, and the Asari from Mass Effect.

>If they are, do they have architecture?
Their architecture is usually carved out of the sides of trench walls, and the side"walks" only exist to put stuff down on. And cities and towns are layered, with each set of buildings sitting on top of each other(since they can just swim, this saves a lot of space).

And before any one asks, they go up to the surface to smelt metal. Which they use to make highly advanced submarines(they're aquatics, of course they have better marine vehicles).

>What do they eat?
Fish and various plants. I had this idea about how they'd have boiler devices to cook with.

>Who holds the power?
They have a United Nations analogue, but it doesn't get much done. There are at least three different factions attempting world take over through political means; the aforementioned empire, a tech corporation, and a mercenary police society.

>How does their environment affect their culture?
Not sure. There's a dumb old joke where someone pretends to be falling. OH! Most of the animals in the world are absurdly dangerous monsters(including the herbivores in some cases), so they're not terribly fond of them.

>Are there unique terrain features such as trenches or coral reefs?
I don't really see the need to come up with any alien terrain, since our own ocean has plenty of stuff to draw on.

>What do they think is "beautiful?"
I suppose the dratzi appreciate function over form.

See, I have a fair amount of what I want this world to be worked out, it's the finer details I have a problem focusing on.
>>
how do you find the motivation to keep writing if everything has already been done before and every idea to ever be written is just a trope listed on tvtropes?

it's quite depressing really
>>
No worries my man and/or lady, that's what we're here for. The trick to focusing in on the finer details is to ask more questions in response to your own answers. It's what I like to think of as the "Why" challenge. To every answer you give yourself, ask, "why."

So these Dratzi sound pretty cool. Pretty much mecha-mermaid people. A thought for you, instead of going to the service, they could take advantage of submerged caves and the air pressure in them like pic related.
Being a race that is so isolated from the the other three, I wouldnt be surprised to see them being aloof to the problems of the "surface world." Unless of course, they are ambition amphibians, and seek to conquer the surface world. But, I would be surprised if the y wanted that, since all their needs seem to be met under the sea. (Cue Little Mermaid's "Under Da Sea")

That being said, they seem like the intellectually superior species, having made robotics and engineering.

Keep asking yourself questions, its the key to building a richer and vividly detailed world.

That being said, if you have any questions about Ardras, I'd love to answer them. Not for vanity's sake, but so that I can build it up more as well. Sometimes other people can think up questions you'd never think of.

Step 1. Accept that nothing is original
Step 2. Break down
Step 3. Cry
Step 4. Cry A LOT
Step 5. Recover
Step 6. Realize that simply because it already exists doesn't mean it can be made better, modified, or melded with something else.
Step 7. Learn to use the term "inspired by" when referring to things that you felt like you copied.
Step 8. Realize that you aren't "copying" them, because you are the individual who brought this work to life.
Step 9. Create, create, create!

There are still a lot of life lessons that haven't been enunciated well enough for the public to accept.

For example, Inside Out is the most mainstream source of getting people to understand what was essentially already said by https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5HbYScltf1c

So your main goal, really, is to have your work be about something. And figuring out a way to slyly get around to the fact without beating your audience over the head with it.

You can summarize what Inside Out is about with "It's okay to be sad sometimes; Don't turn it away just because"

>A thought for you, instead of going to the service, they could take advantage of submerged caves and the air pressure in them
I thought of that as well, but I'm not terribly sure if the science of that works. Although if it doesn't, it's not that big a deal. It's not like I'm going for the really hard end of the sci-fi spectrum here.

As for the surface world, I had toyed with the idea of surface people, but the common sentiment that underwater stories are "boring" is a major motivator.

Actually, I did have a question about Ardas. Are the people humans? Cause what you've described seems like a standard low fantasy scenario. (Not saying that's bad, for the record. As long as you pull it off well, it doesn't matter.)

Oh wow, did I say service? Whoops. I meant surface. Also, I didnt post pic related
I guess you don't have to know every aspect of the science of it, but underwater caves do in fact exist.
Remember that the Dratzi are only one aspect of this world. Depending on your MC and the direction your narrative takes, the whole underwater world can be amazing, because remember, everything you make is alien to your reader.

For Ardras, it consists of humans, sub-humans (subhumans being human but with special abilities) , and other races.
The races are as follows by region

Aristolia- home to many races, but mostly human

Lithos-sub-human, highly adept at magical abilities

Chillrend- sub-human, very strong and hardy

Oceos'lo'kai- human (however some are born subhuman, with enhanced swimming abilities), known for their thrill-seeking lifestyle

Garconga- human, live in communion with nature, some magical abilities

Drylands- non human lizard like race, called the Tokage, interspread with other humans (mostly lowlives, theives, and thrill seekers)

Fayearth- non human, proud, intelligent, and aloof owl-like people. They hardly are ever seen outside of their own nation.

Fervor- non human, marble statue like people made of stone, they value beauty and valor above all things

Xervanos- non human- terrifying, black coal like humanoids, they have only recently come into this world from the underground mere centuries ago.

>Depending on your MC and the direction your narrative takes, the whole underwater world can be amazing, because remember, everything you make is alien to your reader.
Heh. Actually, remember that mercenary police society? The main characters are members. See, the world has recently gotten out of a devastating world war that ended because -something- made six several kilometer craters in the ground. So the Global Security Agency offered their services as police to ease the budgets of countries trying to get themselves back together.

>For Ardras, it consists of humans, sub-humans (subhumans being human but with special abilities) , and other races.

Y'know, I can't imagine the so-called sub-humans are terribly fond of that label. Is this implying some prejudice in the land?

Hm, the more I hear about your world, the more I feel its a lot like your typical low fantasy realm, only sped up into the future by 800 years or so.
Mecha mermaids, Global Security Force, all that. Its definitely an interesting setting!
That being said, I figure the GSA is a sort of neutral party between the four powers? And our MCs are representative of each nation, bringing their own unique culture and world view to the table, which will certainly give us some interesting character interaction?
At any rate, this is a post-war setting, so I'm sure tensions between nations are still pretty high?
What is the nature of this mysterious crater? Does the narrative revolve around it as a mysterious event?

In regards to Ardras, the relations are all over the map. Let's see here.

Aristolia is the mercantile superpower, and the central hub of all trade. It tries to maintain friendly relations with all the other nations, most humans are accepting of other races, since meeting all these other people are a part of every dray life.

Lithos was once a larger region, but in the past it lost most of its territory to Aristolia in a war. It's now pretty much Aristolia's political bitch. While most Lithosian people are content with the peace they have under Aristolia's thumb, there are some families that have an intense hatred of humans. There is a rising cult following looking to reinstate "Old Lithos"

Drylanders are mostly looked down upon as smugglers, thieves, and all around bad people the Tokage in particular. In Tokagian lore, they were even rejected by their own patron god. You can't trust them as far as you could throw them, but god damn do they make a good business partner. (As long as you keep an eye out for a knife in the back)

Essebü (the owl people) are hardly ever seen, so when you do see one, people tend to stare and marvel at their appearance alone. They are however, cold and arrogant to all others.

(2000 character limit, will continue in new post)
>>
>>79041340
Pic related, a gang of Tokage thugs

The Essebü are in high tensions with the Tokage, whom they view with much contempt. Currently, the Tokage capital of Goldhaven in boring tunnels into their sacred mountain (which hosts the Elder Council of the Essebü) in their gold mining operations. This is making it harder and harder for the Essebü to simply stand by and watch the world from their isolated mountain peaks.

Garcongans view outsiders pretty much on the same level as Hawaiians view tourists. Loud, annoying, and they can't wait for them to leave. Their tropical paradise of a region invites all sorts of trouble. However, being a peaceful people, they won't go to war over it.
The locals will just give you the stink eye until you leave.

Xervanos and Fervor are at war. Xervanos now occupies what was once northern Fervor, however, their zealous conquest has laid much of the land in ruins. A Xervanosian and a Fervorian meeting outside of their regions are most assuredly going to end up fighting to the death, as they are both fierce warrior races.
Fervorians see other races as weaker and less beautiful with them, and will often come across as snooty.
Xervanosians however, are curious about the world, and enjoy new experiences, as they are considered a newly born race, who knew nothing but darkness before. They are very friendly to most other races.

Chillrend was pretty much already described. They see other races as weaker, and easily conquered. And rightly so, most of the other races of Ardras fear the raw might of a Chillrender. >>79041335

Finally, the people of Oceos'lo'kai. They are a fun loving group of people, very laid back and don't have any stigmas against anyone else. However, their thrill seeking lifestyle and their mostly sea-driven economy turns most of them into pirates. So most other races don't like them, they come off as irresponsible, lazy, and down right no good.

>Hm, the more I hear about your world, the more I feel its a lot like your typical low fantasy realm, only sped up into the future by 800 years or so.
I suppose it is. I originally wanted to include magic, but I couldn't come up with a decent system, so I just kept it strictly cyberpunk.

>That being said, I figure the GSA is a sort of neutral party between the four powers?
There's more than four, but yes. They're mercenaries with their own agenda of of more or less replacing the ineffectual not-U.N. The MCs are local officers who believe in that cause, but also recognize the questionable stuff their superiors, and even themselves at times, get up to.

>Mecha mermaids, Global Security Force, all that. Its definitely an interesting setting!
Thank you! I like yours as well. Especially the idea of international trade apparently being a major focus.

I won't question too much more about the narrative though, thats your story, we're focusing on the world you're building.
How do the different races view eachother?

>How do the different races view each other?
Well, the dratzi have different breeds like humans do. How they view each other depends on the culture. There's a socialist nation where prejudice is straight up illegal, while some countries still practice racial slavery. Most people don't really care though.

As for national relations, there's still some bad blood there. The war only ended like 50 years ago. Jhartaux and Druselcin are still taking shots at each other ever now and then. And at least one nation is STILL under a zero tolerance isolationist policy because they won't risk coming into contact with any of the weird shit left over from the war.

>Haha, but yes, Ardras originally started as a world for a home brew game of D&D that never came to be. I didnt want it to go to waste, so now we have this project.

>>

Alright. I plan on more, but these are what I have so far. And yeah, I know, the names are kinda dopey and on the nose.

>Scaler: Common in near-surface areas.

>Stalker: Common in deep trench areas.

>Wader: Common in coral reef areas.

>Chiller: Common low temperature areas.

>Trekker: Common in hot, desert areas.

Also, it probably doesn't matter, but I had the first Spyro the Dragon game in mind when I came up with these races.
>>
One time I ate a cricket.
>>
>>79042770
Hm, they definitely could use some work
Try looking into human cultures that reflect the values of each race, and pull inspiration from there,

For example, the Essebü are heavily influenced by ancient Sumerian culture, and reflectively "essebü" is the Sumerian word for "owl"

Ancient languages have all sorts of interesting ways of naming things. Look into them
>>
>>79043079
So, for example, instead of a 'chiller', they'd be a 'bard' (Arabic world for cold), and the people of Jhartaux could have a tradition of storytelling. Not a bad idea, I'll give that a shot.
>>
Sometimes it still surprises me how useless this place can be.
>>
>>79042770
yeah that sort of thing affects culture quite a bit. on earth, people in tropical areas barely/never invented agriculture because why bother? rich plantlife everywhere and huge animals in your way at every step. whereas the ones in desert areas bloomed very early in history because it was either that or die. (places that started tropical and BECAME deserts.. well shit) Then you have like... people surrounded by mountains had less to fear from outsiders and tended to develop cooperative, insular cultures, but over time they stagnate from lack of competition, while people in areas with lots of weak natural barriers (Forests, rivers, medium-sized hills) compete like mad and advance tremendously, but often have a late start depending which other cultures invaded them first. And that's just plain ol 'advancement'. there's like 15 other equally important categories of ways to judge a civilization, and they all have their own variables.
>>
>>79043258
Not a bad start, though the word "bard" has connotations with traveling singers and thespians.

There's a lot of fantasy stories that try to mix up racial and cultural development in new ways, and sometimes it makes a decent amount of sense.. like the people in Earthsea just happen to be browner, it's not as if they had sunnier areas and less sunny areas.. it's all sea. the author just likes brown people. Meanwhile, in Wheel of Time they had desert people described as being very pale and typically red-haired.. and it's like... in a fuckin desert? not an arctic steppe desert either, but a proper sunny hot sands desert.. jesus. not gonna work.
amusingly enough though they had no nudity taboo but instead had a taboo on people seeing them EAT.

There's not enough talking done between webcomic artists, it's a fledgling industry with no road maps, and no brainstorms about how to "make it work." I feel like it's a step in the right direction. The red hair is passable, but pale skin in the desert? Nah.

>>
>>79043555
I think disney said it best with the concept of the plausible impossible. it's not that something has to be true or even realistic, just believable. as long as the audience doesn't collectively think "well that could never happen" then you're fine. which is why generally fiction repeats what people THINK in cases where the truth is difficult to believe.
>>
>>79043622
red hair and pale skin are genetically linked. they both derive from basically a faulty version of melanin. It's like when you see an 'albino' animal that still has some faint yellow markings. they're still producing SOME kind of pigment, but a fucked up version.

but yeah that was a plausible taboo. that's what fun about fantasy and scifi, you can just imagine people ending up different fucked up ways, and it makes you reexamine your own thinking.

Out of curiosity, what kind of pirates are you planning on making them? Are they the romanticized charming rogues, or are these the modern style pirates? Because you may want to keep that in mind in how they relate to other groups. The 'dashing rogues" types disappeared because nations starting to get much stringer military protocol, so if any of your nations have any kind of martial prowess and strong law enforcement, the pirates are going to be bothersome flies at best.
