Have you read the worlds that Convergence showcased? Most are different from what's established. the Earth-2 we see had Crimson Avenger alive (even though he wasn't) and people aware that Superman married Lois (the public were only supposed to know Clark married Lois). The vampire world we saw had a vampire Poison Ivy, even though Poison Ivy never became a vampire during the Batman vampire trilogy. The Kingdom Come world had Alan Scott being vulnerable to yellow (when it should've been wood).
In other words, the worlds that you think got destroyed didn't really get destroyed or rebooted and replaced with the New 52/Multiversity versions. Just variants of them.

Can someone explain to me how/why Vertigo is its own Universe in the multiverse and not part of the main continuity? I mean before COIE Swamp Thing and Hellblazer were shown to be part of the main DC universe, I think Sandman too. I guess Technically Sandman could take place on Earth-2 because of Wesley Dodds and the JSA, but that doesn't matter because after the crisis the worlds were merged, and Neil Gaiman's Sandman story chronologically takes place after the crisis. So at what point did Vertigo split into its own universe, is this just some New 52 bullshit?

DeMatteis would be a bad fit. His JLD fucking sucked. He was worst than Fawkes in it.
His Phantom Stranger was also very mediocre. There were some nice issues, but mostly it was mediocre. I don't know why /co/ praise it so much. Probably because there was a lot of bad books back then and people were accepting anything that could be passed as decent.

What was so medciore about Phantom Stranger? And what do YOU like?
Phantom Stranger had a lot of heart in it, the title character felt like a real character, he had emotions(perfectly displayed by Blanco's expressive art) and went through a lot. It made great use of other existing magic DC charcters as well as created very interesting ones. It's textbook good run.
His JLD was not good but that's because it was editors wanted it to be a superhero book, and not a magic book(Milligan mentions this). He had his moments with some characters.
Also, I would suggest you read up on some older comics, DeMatteis is well know for doing great spiritual/mystic comic book. Moonshadow, Willworld, Blood, Man-Thing, Dr. Strange: Into Shamballa, The Last One, Dr. Fate, Spectre...

I kind of want to see more Earths where they mix and match different characters from different lines and worlds yet don't use all of them. The Pre-Crisis Earth-S actually had Kid Eternity as Captain Marvel Jr's brother, even though Kid Eternity was never a Fawcett character (he was published by Quality Comics).
Like for instance imagine a world where Gotham By Gaslight happened (with Bruce Wayne confined to the late 1800's/early 1900's; if there's any future Batmen it's all descendants) and the only Golden Age heroes around during the 1940's were the Freedom Fighters; Uncle Sam, Doll Man, Phantom Lady, all that. And then in the 50's J'onn comes to Earth and Hal Jordan became the first Green Lantern of Earth (with Guy, John, and Kyle to follow) but none of the other Silver Age heroes are around. And then in the 90's Martian Manhunter and the Green Lanterns have to deal with a covert war between the Kherubim and Daemonites happening on Earth.

I'm not even sure (cause if the Pre-Flashpoint Batman rogues are dead then 90's Catwoman is also dead and Pre-Crisis Earth-1 Steve Trevor and Etta Candy are vampires now, and Earth-2 Green Arrow and Speedy died before they could die in the Crisis on Infinite Earths). Of course, if they all got rebooted it ended up not mattering if they lived or died. But then there was an epilogue in Infinity Inc that doesn't make sense because Jay's not old in the main Convergence mini and sounds more like as if it took place after Convergence finished.
