It'd be a weird topic to explore maybe, but the idea of mixed-bending parents was kind of an interesting one. Aang and Katara each had a kid who inherited their bending and one that was non-bender until spirit nonsense gave it him. It raises a lot of questions about how bending is inherited and who has the capability to do it I guess. Also the sketchy nature of what role geography/nationality plays in determining one's bending abilities, which is never explicitly explained (why did airbenders pop up all over the place instead of in the extreme corners of the planet where they were last known to live?)
