Well for one does have a concise story progresses more like an old children's fantasy book (think Alice's Adventures in Wonderland orThe Wonderful Wizard of Oz), that's something I had never really seen done in a cartoon, especially when most current cartoons overload their seasons with filler contentent and the plot doesn't really progress for seasons on end.

TTG has a crazy broad range between its good episodes and bad ones.
It does have plenty of great episodes but it falls on the viewer to sort through them.

This is as good an explanation of it as any. Sealab and Space Ghost were liked because few people if anyone gave a crap about the original cartoons that got fucked-with to make the new shows, and had little/no attachment.
TTGO, on the other hand, was made while original TT was still fresh in peoples' memories as a great show, and they were expecting any revivals to follow roughly the same tone and setup. When TTGO came out of nowhere, people were pissed because it initially appeared that CN went from not giving a shit about the series to actively perverting it for cheap sketch-comedy. The fact that the new shot takes pot-shots at the old show and its fans regularly doesn't help, even though most Sealab-esque cartoons do the same to a lesser degree.
In other words, it's not bad, but they pushed it out way too soon when people were expecting something very different. With more time for the old show to fade from memory a bit, the reception probably would have been much more accepting.

My problem with TTGo is the inconsistency of writing. I do admit sometimes it can be funny and an episode can have a good premise.
The problem is that said quality NEVER LASTS. I's basically a 60/40 on if you're gonna get a decent episode or just pure LOLSORANDOM.
One episode can be the like of OP's post while the next time is just Beast boy and Cyborg saying the word waffles for the entire episode which APPARENTLY is suppose to be funny.

That's a great point but with spongebob, it started out incredibly strong, building a giant fanbase. Spongebob did fall in quality but even after the movie was released there were still glimpses of great episodes here and there and gradually fell in quality to the point where it's now unwatchable. I have no idea how spongebob is still going but is it damn impressive. I think the difference between TTGO is that it's an obvious use of quantity over quality. They took a great TV series, with great animation, great story and characters etc., etc., and turned it into something completely different with cheaper animation. It's being forced to be something it's not, to be this juggernaut that's supposed to compete with spongebob, but is cheaper and appeals to kids more. I also think many people are offput with the insults they deal with older fans, when it's riding of the success of the older series in the first place. Sometimes it can be funny (like the serious episode they did which actually was pretty good). It's also being marketed so hard with that awful tag line "Your new favorite show" I think if they stuck with the art style of "The New Teen Titans" shorts, it would of gotten a better response. I personally have no problem with change, i even welcome it, however i personally can't stand the series. Still if people like it then i guess that's up to them.

I have the first two seasons of the show on DVD.
I also have two Sons.
I hate TTG, truly I do.
My Sons, love it. They can't tell me anything about it, they don't have any favorite characters, it's just what they demand I put on when we're chillaxing after game time, and before bath time.
They're 5 and 3. So, probably a little under the target demographic.
They did a whole episode, about a tree growing out of Beast Boy's head.. Because he read a book. A whole.. Fucking.. Episode.. By the end I was rubbing my eyes because it felt like someone had stapled sand paper to the inside of eye lids.
This show.. Is absolutely the worst.. I've seen some shit.. Some seriously shitty shit, I lived through the days of that kid who had cartoons in his head, and the bullshit live action asstastrophy that was Cartoon Network for a while. Hell, I sat through the "Beware the Batman" shitshow for two episodes, before I had to just forget it existed.
This however, for whatever reason, is amazing. If this was the show, minus the hero identities (Cyborg, BB, Raven, Robin, Starfire) and characters that took on their qualities, while not having their backstory instead.. I would absolutely love it. Especially if it had 80s music, and this swesome of a set up. This is exactly what I want my Sons to watch growing up. Heroes doing hero stuff, not.. Prank calling Hive, and ruining their day off.
If TTG became 'The Night Begins to Shine' the TV series, sign me up. Hell, I would cosplay these characters with my kids!

No matter what the fanbase for the original version of the show is like, you NEVER acknowledge the older version, you try to give the continuation its own identity, without relying on people remembering the original. They made that mistake in episodes like 'The Return of Slade', 'Waffles', 'Staring at the Future', and 'The Fourth Wall' (which I'll admit was decent).
That's where the hate for this show comes from. The writers and directors know that it doesn't live up to what the fans wanted, and they use it to basically shit on anyone who still remembers the original in any way, shape, or form.
