With Homestucks final (or next to final) update coming up in only THREE months I would say now is a good time to start the final reread. At a casual pace if you start today you'll be able to finish the entire comic and refresh your memory before the update without rushing your way through. Go ahead. Take one last victory lap.
To help I'm gonna leave the Homestuck book commentaries in the second post here for the first three acts.

In the meantime I'm gonna dump some of the oldest fanart I have to try and get that old homestuck sensawundah back.

When it started getting crazy popular in Act 5 one of my friend pestered me into reading it. I remember being confused as to how it worked thinking I was on someone elses save file.

I gave it a good chance and was HOOKED on the compounding mysteries presented in the first act. And I absolutely adored the overly complex game mechanics.

One of the bigger contributions to the comics crazy popularity was definitely the alchemization. Thats such a great concept it allows you to make any crazy thing your imagination can think up.

I made A LOT of The Overseer Project items in my spare time. Fun text based game that was. Recently had a big update too with consorts and stuff.

I wish I wasn't such a cunt back then and stuck around to talk about the comic with /co/, but now those days are long gone. I'm a bit grateful though since I got to read act 6 without any of the pauses.

I started reading Homestuck from the start. I learned about Hussie's work after Ryan North posted a link from his comic to Andrew's. Andrew was just a little under half-way done with Problem Sleuth at the time.

I liked Homestuck when it started. A lot of other people who had loved Problem Sleuth did not. Quite a few of them thought it was taking too long, but my favorite parts of Problem Sleuth were the slower beginning parts too. What got my really involved with Homestuck was WV: ascend. Joined the forum, got really really involved. And then sort of... just lost interest once Act 5 Act 2 started. Andrew changed focus too much for me. Still read, but haven't really enjoyed it for years.

I've been asking myself that a lot lately and I'd have to say the amount of enjoyment I've gotten from this comic has been worth the time. Homestuck is probably my favorite...thing. It being a huge part of almost a third of my life (mostly during teenage formative years) is probably a large part of it.

>Looking back now it was just a walk around flash exploring and some bare bones combat but god damn when I got to that page was I not feeling a serious sense of wonder and exploration.

THIS was always my favorite thing about Homestuck. There were other funny webcomics with plot out there, but Homestuck was more than a web"comic". It felt like the first bit of web entertainment to really take advantage of the internet. I mean, there are other works out there that do that, but Homestuck was the first real multimedia web story. It felt like the lid had been blown off of this thing that nobody had ever explored before.

I'm unfortunately as jaded as most people regarding Homestuck nowadays, but I'll always treasure those early days of reading the story. Looking back, it does feel a lot like getting nostalgic over an old videogame. For all the ups and downs, I'm really glad Homestuck was a thing.
>>
>>78966083
I started late in 2014. My ex was super into it and after we broke up i pathetically thought we could get back together if we bonded over this shitty webcomic. Now I'm in too deep and want to see how it ends.
>>
>>78966083
Read it during last Summer instead of studying for my exams, after having dropped it in April because I didn't get what was happening in S Descent.
Kinda regret not reading it while it was at its peak and missing most of the fandom as it was happening.
>>
>>78966083
Man I started reading my first year of college so like 2011 or so after a friend I girl I liked brought it up as something they thought I would like.
I spent about a week of free consuming all of it. I think the first update I was 100% caught up for was the prince is awake shit with dirk.

I really enjoyed all of the fun banter between the 4 kids originally and as the cast bloated I really started to stop caring. I still vividly remember getting chills during the introduction of John's guardian, all the empathizing with Dave and the bullshit with his brother, vriska's redemption just before getting kek'd by terezi. There were so many good moments but none of it actually ever mattered and that's disappointing.

Did Dave ever finish his quest? Did Rose? Did anyone?
>>
>>78973942
Dave and Rose abandoned their quests, because Dave has PTSD and Rose still has issues with authority so she's sticking it to Skaia like a child. Jade completed hers at Cascade, and John recently finished his, gaining a "final mastery over his confining reality" and becoming a walking deus ex machina. It was pretty satisfying to watch.

They're basically the emo-tier brooding loser side of the ecto-teen family.
>>
>>78974268
They suck because they have to turn the whole thing into an overblown soap opera and overanalyze it and misinterpret what the quests are trying to tell them and play the hurting antihero who's lost in their lives, even before they actually did the goddamn quests they were assigned. Meanwhile John and Jade just did the quests they were given, were rewarded with incomparable power and skill, and made their interpretations after their quests were finally completed. Roxy just wanted to have a good time and rolled with whatever she was given, no matter how absurd or mundane.
>>
>>78974484
Yeah, they're basically stuck in this line of thinking and haven't really grown out of it during the three-year trip. I also can't help but have the feeling that Dave and Rose's relationships with Karkat and Kanaya respectively, in some manner, is also contributing to them running away from their issues, partly because Karkat and Kanaya have issues of their own and are either incapable or not fully aware of them.

Back in 2009 I saw [S] Dave: Accelerate linked from a pokemon forum but didn't care to see anything else for thinking MSPA was a Newgrounds clone.
Then in 2011 my friend recommended PS, I discovered homestuck and stopped archivally reading by A6A3. I was spoiled about trolls and alpha kids, but only because of what pumpking ads, so didn't know the fandom's deal until then.

....What a ride.

I started back when Homestuck threads were still called MSPA threads. There was a picture of the original ORIGINAL trolls in the OP; Karkat, Terezi, Kanaya, Tavros, and I thought to myself "Oh man Problem Sleuth musta gotten crazier! I better go finish it." Then I finished it and realized Homestuck was an entirely different thing and here we are. Caught up around when Rose entered the medium.

One was all the Trolls drawn as actual humans and it was before we were shown how Karkat really looked like.

And the other one was someone predicting how Eridan and Feferi will look like. The artist was spot-on for Feferi looking like a mermaid, but Eridan looked like a legit fantasy troll for being fat and having an ugly face. Oh, and Eridan has Feferi in his giant aquarium glass thing.

Also its about a game that destroys your universe. I tried to read it but quickly dropped, after a while (a few months? I don't remember) I binge-read PS, then read HS

So was Mituna supposed to spite us? Or was it another case where a creator references us but doesn't get it?
>>

What a surprisingly accurate description
>>
>>78980913
Exaggerated reference, same with all the A1 trolls. Like how the A2 trolls are parodies of stereotypical internet trolls, A1s are mostly parodies of Tumblr personalities.
>>
>>78980913
You should know by now Hussie is fairly out of touch with everything and gets his knowledge from his webcomic buddies.
>>
>>78980816
Man, even looking back Hivebent was way better than the stuff we even got now.
>>
>>78981104
It had terrible pacing though. Set right after hypeworthy Descend when you just want to read about the kids, you have to slog through 12 troll introductions and them fucking around being useless before the story starts being relevant again. You're expecting a conclusion or falling action for the kids, when instead you're suddenly yanked away to start reading a story about 12 other idiots. Like the anon said above, you're getting blueballed by the story.
>>
>>78966083

I first read the comic up to the most recent point back when John was looking down into his dad's room, about to jump into it from the roof.

I'm terrible with time, when was that exactly? It was a while ago, I think.

So correct me if I'm mistaken, but Dave's character revolved around heroism/living up to his brother and/or John, and how he was afraid to accept that mantle since he didn't think he was good enough. And the apparent resolution for this arc was for him to legitimately stop trying and giving up?
>>
>>78981627
Same arc as Karkat.
>Gives up on being leader and stops caring
They are perfect for each other.
>>
>>78981627
Partially that, and learning to be a hero on his own terms. but now it's about how that is bad and nihilism and being gay is so much cooler.

Caliborn's I guess?
John's kinda got there. A lot of interesting payoffs were all undone in the retcon anyway.
>>
>>78981856
Pretty much. In the pre-retcon timeline it was hinted that with Jade on his ass all the time he'd eventually get back to reluctantly being a hero, but post-scratch he has no incentive so he doesn't.

>>
>>78981977
I honestly can't tell if Hussie plans to actually gives the characters a good arc in the end or if he thinks ignoring it is just subverting expectations of cliche writing and things it's better for that and this is all we'll get.
>>
>>78982150
He's far from ignoring it. It seem pretty obvious that the story's not going to just let Dave and Rose and the rest of the kids stay in their comfort zones and not move past their issues.
>>
>>78981627
the solution was to act like a whiny teenager with no real problems, in a scenario where he HAS to fight or else two different races will be wiped out or enslaved.
he also has the potential to be really powerful since he can make stable time loops, but refuses to do so.

I dunno man, I've got a friend who reads insanely fast. And I already read so fast people think I'm skimming.

I watched him playing KotOR for the first time ever and you'd think from how quickly he goes through dialogue that he was speedrunning it. But no, he totally is reading that fast. He knows the plot points he just screamed through and everything. And like I said, he is playing for the first time.

thing is, I read pretty fast too, but I seriously doubt a couple days is enough time, the meenah walkabouts by themselves could take over an hour, and there's hours of animation to watch
I remember some time ago one of the music team did a speedrun of homestuck at that point (they just kept clicking next over and over without reading), I didn't watch it because it honestly sounds like the dullest way to spend time but it took him three hours just doing that

Homestuck hit it's peak long ago. The moment that it would never top. That it will not, in the future, ever surpass. You know it, deep in your heart. Perhaps you even knew it then.

It's not the shark-jump, the series continued to be solid for some time afterwards. But every moment that followed was in some way dwarfed in its shadow. You know what I mean.
