When (and if) you as a creative person is met with only shit, trollings and negativity, you sort of want to point it out. And knowing the chans, negativity is all you get, no matter what you do.

It has a pattern - new writer (or artist or colourist) arrive, everybody loves 'em because they're not like the old hated ones, then they have maybe a few years where their work is appreciated, then comes the hate. Every time, regular as clockwork.

People who do nothing themselves, whinge childishly about those who work.

Thankfully it's only a small group, the knee-jerk haters that is.

Those who like will silently buy the work and enjoy.

Why do you think so few creative professionals are on the net?
>>
>>78948691
I think this was legitimately funny, as opposed to Thor, which was stupid posturing.
This was more self-aware, a short wink acknowledging the fact as opposed to a preachy demonstration of contempt and delusion.
Laura states that there is no attempt to replace Logan going on and that she is basically just trying to honor the legacy.
This is not hitting strawmen, this is a bit of a clarification on the author's side.

Is this very witty? Not really. But it's not "I'm right because vagina!", either.

I give it a pass.
>>
>>78948981
>When (and if) you as a creative person is met with only shit, trollings and negativity, you sort of want to point it out.
1) it's juvenile
2) don't feed the troll rule
3) comic book acknowledging memes and internetspeak is not a good thing, and makes the comic dated.
4) ignoring the positive side, or pretending it doesn't exist is low move
>>
>>78948598
That baby's seen some shit.
>>
>>78948982
The thing is, Laura actually has every right in the world to replace Logan. Also, what is frustrating about that scene is that page before she got very serious, in a Laura way, only to go "lol, I'm so messed up".
>>
>>78948981
My problem with meta-commentary like this is it points out the fiction. Immersion is a key element for a book, and this stuff breaks that immersion.

Also its become pretty obvious Tom Taylor has never read a single thing involving Laura before and isn't even trying to line up her characterization in this book with past appearances
>>
>>78949008
>and makes the comic dated.

It's fucking childish and screams of having a bruised little ego. Be an adult and stop caring about internet trolls and "haters". Do the best work you can and find the opinions that have value and are of actual worth. Giving a shit about internet bullies should stop after high school.
>>
Go to bed Tom, its past midnight.
>>
>>78949008
You're blowing this out of proportions.
It's one fucking line and you would complain even harder is there was acknowledgement of positive feedback because it would look like blowing his own horn.
And you really can't include a meta-analysis of feedback within the comic because that would be completely beside the point.

It's one line hinting at the existence of backlash.
>>
>>78949058
because dated references are always cringey.
I read some old Batman comic today, and Robin is so impressed at Batman that he listened to his Janis Joplin record.
>>
>>78949058
Same reason topical jokes are the lowest tier of comedy. They're only good in the context of a certain timeframe and once the references are no longer culturally relevant it becomes worthless.
>>
>>78949080
>It's one line hinting at the existence of backlash.
While I agree with the rest of your points, I will only repeat what I originally said. It wasn't necessary, I still like the comic, I just hope that in future the writer will avoid such stuff.
>>
>>78949081
I would argue that it works again now.
It would make him a /mu/ hipster.
Would have been better if it was Velvet Underground, though.
And the joke here is not even topical, but just a mode of technology. It will only become outdated when the Internet is replaced. And by that logic you can't show technology because it ages to irrelevance within the decade.
In that regard, public opinion online will likely be a thing for longer than most things in this comic.
>>
>>78948708
>Wasp
The only reason why I'm reading this
>>
>>78949065
Feedback and criticism is wonderful, it excites and feeds creativity.

Bullying kills it - utterly and completely. Creative people ARE sensitive, it's what makes them creative. It's also what makes them go away and do something else somewhere private.

I was a pro, but I have removed myself from that word entirely. I've stopped creating.
My drive is dead - probably because I was too sensitive and had expected mature criticism and response. The urge to create is gone, all it brought was sorrow,

Now I'm a reader/watcher instead, and I love the creators who can create, despite the bullying and I understand when they vent their spleen and support them the best I can.

I have a menial job and a lot less stress.

>Creative people ARE sensitive
Pain also is the best stimuli for the art. The best art is created through pain.

>My drive is dead
My harddrive is dead, and I don't remove myself from anything. Were you a poet? It seems that you still have it in you. You would be a good writer of Linkin Park songs. Your post already made my skin crawl
>>
>>78949202
It's only my opinion, or should I say, my concern. I really like this book, and I don't think it needs the same tactics as other books lead by females, like Hellcat or Thor. All in all, I will wait and see. I still remain hopeful, so I hope that Taylor won't screw it up somewhere along the way. I also forget that Marvel actually likes stirring shit, so it's possible that it was the editors idea, rather than Taylor's.
>>
>>78948567
We don't disapprove...Laura was set up nicely in Wolverines for this...
>>
>>78949203
Pain growing out of the artist, pain the demands relief and expression.
Rejection and fear from outside sources are less conductive, especially when directed against the art.
You see a hundred thousand songs about love and loss because they inspire, but no songs about how assholes online feel you are a bad person and you should just stop.

Sure. Nice that you care rather than dismissively shitpost.

>>78949245
I think this is more directed at pre-release nonsense where the typical non-reading regressive crowd bitched as usual. Which is hard on writers because they have no way to react to that.
What are you going to do?
I think Marvel needs a policy to shelter the artists from the worst fallout of hate mob mentality.
Not vetting twitter, but to set up counselling and putting things into perspective, taking them off the social networks, maybe set up a specific channel for feedback from readers only.
Someone talked about access codes in physical and digital issues.

Because Internet hate mobs are becoming a problem for artists who have hug boxes turn on them and destroy them.
>>
>>78949370
Les Miserables is about timeless themes like social condemnation, stuggles of poverty, and so on framed in the history of France. That's different from some joke about Paris Hilton being a slut base on Paris Hilton being a slut like some robot chicken sketch.
>>
>>78949409

>>
>>78949494

>>
>>78948665
>There isn't a need to bring it up.
Arguably there is. They need to lionize their new target audience into buying the book and generate buzz with controversy, even if they have to manufacture that controversy themselves.

No one would care about a female Thor if not for the fact that they made a big huge deal about how the gamergate nerds hated it.
>>
>>78949515
As a concept, yes. But if you read R&D, 1st act, 1st scene, you will see a ton of terribly dated phrases and puns.
Or would you expect the current audience to guess what "taking the wall" from someone means? What about carrying coals?
Language and frames of reference have always changed. They simply change more quickly now.
And we never get to see all the mediocre plays taking the piss on local monarchs and current events of 1456.
>>
>>78949494
Except Shakespeare shook the rules of traditional plays. He was an innovator. And yes, his sexual innuendos and dick jokes are timeless.
>>

> give this book a shot, because syrange

>>
>>78949614
You do realize that people teach Shakespeare in school? Any dated reference is explained by teachers. You have books dedicated to understanding Shakespeare. His books are also very important for the reasons you mention, like history, evolution of art. Shakespeare is too important to become dated.

You would think this page means Taylor actually read X-23 comics.

As opposed to thinking Taylor knows all of this, but constantly chooses to ignore it.

>>
>>78957652
So when you're saying Laura has no personality, what you're really saying is that she doesn't have a personality that you like.
>>
>>78957652
But she did have a personality. You may have put it in a reductionist way that demonstrates how you dislike it, but you couldn't have done that if she didn't have a personality. Tell me, what's her personality in this book?

False dichotomy. Cringeworthy dialogue is cringeworthy dialogue, regardless of political alignment. I personally think anyone who has a problem with Laura being Wolverine is a manbabby and I also think the line is stupid and has no business coming out of Laura's mouth. If it were Jubilee or Kitty Pryde or someone, it would make more sense. But not Laura. This would be like Spider-Man saying "Verily, we must venture forth!" unironically.

So i've been out of the loop with xmen, is that Angel from the past X-Men? Why does he have fire wings?

Also that's kinda cute. Laura is able to be happy. This is good.

>guys on the Internet mainly

I wonder how writers that read /co/ manage to have every single sentences of their works picked apart yet learn absolutely nothing from the experience

I literally do not give a flying fuck about Laura replacing Logan. I support it even.
I hate this horribly cringeworthy dialogue because it's horrible cringeworthy dialogue that takes me out of the story.

Yellow Wolverine costume looked cool on Logan, but it's shit on Laura. I'd prefer her version of his X-Force suit. Or her old X-Force suit. Kyle/Yost/Remender eras X-Force had the coolest suits.
