Is appealing to furries really a valid business move that adds value for shareholders? I don't mean turning the series into softcore porn, but just throwing in something for furries to sink their teeth into (HA HA PUN). Are companies doing it deliberately, or are anthros just "in vogue" now?

Are there any examples of outright pandering or is this something that never happens despite everyone complaining about it?

Nobody in mainstream entertainment purposely creates things just for fags on the internet to masturbate to, but fags on the internet will inevitably masturbate to things created for mainstream entertainment.
>>
Absolutely! Predicting the rise of the furry market Marvel ordered Bill Mantlo to come up with Rocket Raccoon way back in 76, and then forced DnA to include them in their run on Guardians in 2008 knowing it would eventually lead into a movie and get millions upon millions of them furry dollars. All according to keikaku.

Most normies don't even know or care about furries.
>>
Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar. And most of the time a talking animal is just a talking animal.

Furries out number something awful edgelords by a huge margin.

Businesses have a lot to gain, and nothing to lose.

Your 2007 epin maymays belong in the past. Sorry, m8.

You know to most normal people, when they see something with cartoon animals in it, they don't immediately think of a weird subculture that have fursonas, play dress up as them, and fuck. They think, "This is cute and looks like it's fun for the whole family," and so those movies make a lot of money.
>>
Nah. I think they're popular now, but it seems like they've always been (since funny animals and fables and beyond) - Advances in CGI makes it exciting to show creatures which previously could only exist in the imagination and show them on the big screen, and anthros are inevitably one of those.

Most people like animals. A lot of people like talking animals - It's been popular since way before furries. And children are an easy market. It's a simple equation.

I don't doubt that studios are aware that furries exist, but they're not nearly as important as /co/ seems to think.

OP, do us all a favor and never breed.

I dunno, I have normie cousins and they know about furries because furries like to invade and spam shit in certain social apps and internet forums my cousins go to for memes and other shit even sports forums, and they don't like them for that.
>>
>>78921817

animal characters are always popular, and furries turn into furries for a reason.

if they can constantly replicate that formula that makes them obsessed with characters just because they're not human, that's a money well right there.

I am afraid its more nefarious than that.
They have infiltrated positions of power.
Their love for the genre has motivated them to become accepted and will stop at nothing until the hollywood, nay, the world is covered in fur. Then and only then will the mad scientists appear. They will say its possible. Many will laugh and scorn them but woe! for the elite will be furries and allow them to perform genetic experimentation. Many trials and errors later the first Cat Girl is genetically engineered. Aliens invade us and see what we have done to our genome and then massacre us by the thousands... but by then it will already be to late as their planets furry equivalent step in to save them. After thousands dead on both sides all that will be left is a movie...playing in an empty cinema...one person...Zootopia... and Jesus wept.... Jesus .... Wept....

I don't get it. Are you implying humans don't have teeth?

If you want to get technical, anon, humans are animals.

Plus I have yet to see a truly furry movie. Most movies use anthro animals with some sort of excuse (like Rocket being augmented) or in an extremely cartoonish, fable-type way that only exists to appeal to kids.

There isn't a single major feature, or series, or (major) comic that shows anthro animals in a furry-type realistic artstyle or protagonic way (and isn't meant to be artsy or metaphorical), like most furry tropes.

Zootopia comes close, but it's too cartoonish. BoJack too, but they're more of a gag thing rather than something that drives the plot in any significant way.
>>
>>78927244
Wasn't there a comic that gets posted on /co/ occasionally that does exactly what you say?

Also; Maus,
>>
>>78927297
Didn't know that. Any sauce?

Maus doesn't count though. Neither do Jason comics. The animals in these works are extremely stylized and mostly there to work as metaphors for the characters personalities or nationalities, rather than acknowledging that they're animals and being a part of the plot. I think there's an important distinction in these genres rather than to say that Maus is a furry comic.
>>
Animal people are as old as storytelling.
>>
>>78927297

Dreaming of Utopia uses furries as some sort of Jonestown religious cult.

something that actually uses "people turning into furries, panic" is Endtown too.
>>
>>78927425
Just looked it up. It's called Blacksad. Apparently it's a noir comic, but with furries (the last thread posted about it said "Is Blacksaid good, or is it too furry?". Average opinion was shifted towards the former)

>Are there any examples of outright pandering
That one Deadpool cover
That one BTAS episode
I'm pretty sure FOP did something really weird that I've blocked from my memory.

Don't pander OP, not to perverts or SJWs, just don't do it.
>>
>>78927567
>BTAS

Batman the Animated Series? Didn't that air before furries were even a (big) thing?
>>
>>78927519
I don't think Endtown counts as a major comic.

DOU, although features "actual" furries, is definitely not furry (it doesn't actually have anthros), and it pushes A LOT of ideology. There are far more problems with it than are relevant to the conversation.

>>78927555
I think Blacksad counts. Not gonna debate that. But I see a blacksad movie as a very distant possibility, though we live in a crazy world.
>>
>>78927567
i'm gonna pander to everyone, just fuckin' watch me
>>
>>78927671
Shit, if I ran my own show/comic, I'd make episodes that deliberately pander to conflicting groups.
>>
>>78927613
idk, but there's an episode were a mad scientist turns people into anthropomorphic animals and tries to get them to fuck.
>>
>>78927567

Odd, now all I wanna do is pander to the bara and furry crowd.

You mean Albedo Anthropomorphics? One of the earliest attempts to do a serious, hard sci-fi comic featuring uplifted/genetically enhanced animal people making their way out in space to colonise different planets.

It had it's own Newsgroup (ask your parents) - alt.fan.albedo - which became so popular it broadened its scope and became alt.fan.furry.
The rest is history, but don't forget about the early 90's when the Furry Fandom suffered an abrupt shift away from cartoonists and fantasy writers to the so-called Lifestylers (see: Mark Merlino).

>>78927555
Blacksad is very much 'animals as caricature' in my opinion, and works on a more metaphorical level.
>>
>>78927786
Albedo is a very niche comic.

I'm conflicted about blacksad. I don't know enough about it to say, but I think animals are more of a metaphor in that comic.

Anthropomorphic humanoid animal characters don't always have to be associated with furries you know. Don't make everything revolve around their fetish

I'm playing through Oblivion right now as a Khajiit and I haven't even thought about furries until right now. I just like how they're vaguely middle eastern/northern african, and I wanted play a scum bag Aladdin type backstabbing thief and treasure hunter
>>
>>78927244
What the fuck are you talking about?
>>

>playing through Oblivion
>screencaps from Skyrim
>>
>>78928199
Skyrim looks prettier, but Oblivion is more fun to play
>>
>>78927244

If it's not meant to be artsy, cartoonish, or metaphorical, then what's the point of them being animals?
>>
>>78928304

maybe it just looks cool
>>
>>78921817
That's not why Rocket is in the movie you fucking moron if you can't see how a tough raccoon is both humorous and appealing to children then you're just gay
>>
>>78928366

Well in order for it to look cool, it should be arty. Unless you think merely putting an animal head on a human body is cool. I guess if you do that makes you furry, I dunno.
>>
>>78927751
Anon, Batman is about a guy who dresses up in a fursuit and fights crime.

It's always pandered to furries.
