Mike did with art what Terry Goodkind did with novels.

It's like he started actively developing drawing skill in reverse or something.

none of the faces in the first 2 panels match the emotion or intent of the dialogue? that new ghost artist should be fired immediately
>>
>>78890224
The problem is that he felt he was stagnating, so he decided to mix up his style. Unfortunately, rather than being an improvement, he just did a lateral slide into a different style that he was worse at drawing, and then continued to develop that awful style.

He's one of the few webcomic artists that should have STOPPED trying to improve.

>>Doesn't like China Mievile.

must be because mieville is a writer who uses big/obscure words to an actual purpose instead of just to prop up his flaccid ego

fuck tycho, seriously. writing is the one thing he's supposed to be good at and he's actually terrible at it.

every "experimental" project theyve done has been terrible unreadable trash, all style and incoherent pretension without any substance

with gabe I think it's arguable. yeah I think his art has taken a downturn, but I can understand people who still want to defend it. and I think even the most ardent hater of his can admit that at one point he was at least moderately talented.

but with tycho, its not just that he overestimates his talent with the written word, it's that he's actually legitimately bad at writing by any metric you choose to use. he's not good at conveying information, he's not good at forming rhetorical arguments, he's not good at putting together a nice sounding sentence. he's just genuinely bad.

I'm basically living this right now. I've got four nieces (8, 10, 10, and 25) and two nephews (12 and 19) and aside from the 8 year old Sarah they all kick my ass at games I'm supposed to be good at. Fighting games, shooting games, racing games, all this shit. I feel like my hands just don't do what I tell them to, or like the signal doesn't get from my eyes to my brain to my hands fast enough. I used to be good at this stuff, I swear.

The worst part is that my only comfort is that the only game they can't beat me at is Smash Bros.

People got way too fucking buttblasted about Roger Ebert saying games were not art.

He was an old man, he hadn't played anything since fucking Pac Man, he didn't have any idea that games have evolved since then. When he heard kids talking about 'games are art' he pictured Pac Man, a quarter sucking pop culture corporate product. People pointed him towards more modern games and he wrote a second article talking about how he had no idea that things actually changed and there were stories and shit now (although his opinion stayed the same because he's a crotchety old man and old men do not change their minds ever, no matter how much evidence you throw at them).

different sections of the face ARE different colors
"tumblr nose" is a very stylized version of it however, and often looks really bad because they just make it 2 flat colors with a hard border and/or make it an extreme color shift instead of one that still looks like a normal skintone
>>
>>78915102
The mouth is blue, the nose is red, and the forehead is yellow, but the color is usually so muted you'd never notice.

I really don't know.

I can only guess those losers do it because they see others do it.

Individual expression is not exactly the forte of these types, and they find comfort in imitating each other in every way be it thought, art or story style.

I think it looks fucking ridiculous and thought red noses were for the sick or reindeer.

the joke here is as much of an ass as Ebert was about games I respected him because he knew his job as a reviewer was basically being paid to give his opinion and he wasn't crazy or anything. He'd give movies bad reviews and get death threats daily that was just part of his life.

Sarkeesian is a literal con woman, she turned the death threats into money. The joke here is the angrier you get about her the more she wins.
>>

Ebert was also a phenomenal writer. The dude made a write-up about a rice cooker compelling.
>>
>>78916552
that also yes, Ebert was an excellent writer and no doubt spent many years honing his craft. I got bored one day and looked up his writeup on the original Iron Man flick.

he managed to make "this was a fun action movie but I'm left with a lot of questions about how the technology works. Either way worth a matinee viewing, give it a shot" pretty compelling.
>>
>>78916589
Ebert didn't seem like he was completely up his own ass

Which is why it's curious he said games can't be art. I mean games these days employ actual (sometimes) classically trained artists. One of the last places where someone who's a technically proficient artist is valued for their talents when modern art is populated by hacks, marketers and the insane.
>>
>>78916620
I think it was just a generational thing. I saw a comment on one of his articles where someone mentioned that people didn't think movies were sophisticated or able enough to be art at first either, and he straight claimed that wasn't true. Baffling. I remembered thinking he should know better.

After reading the review, he seems more at a loss to explain the film's cavalier attitude toward human life while using young children as emotionless, morally vacant, instruments of death. Gunslinger Girl did it better anyway.

IIRC it's because in some games users have some form of agency over the story. Ebert felt any medium where a consumer could affect the outcome of a story was not truly art.

I don't even think it's a matter of him being a bad writer (although he totally is). It goes beyond that, early on he adopted (mostly ironically I think) a style where he wrote as pretentiously as possible as a way of making fairly mundane statements seem funny. Overtime he's become emotionally invested in this writing style, presumably because no one told him early enough that it had short legs as a source of humor.
So he started off being shit for stylistic reason but then he stopped understanding that it was shit.

It seems like he mostly uses films as a way to get people to pay him and his friends to go on holidays and that the actual movie making is somthing he despises and crams into the smallest amount of time possible.

That doesn't explain why they converse like pod people.

Man, I really miss when PA was funny.

He's also right about games never becoming art.

I almost specifically called that one out as the only one that wasn't absolutely irredeemable. but as >>78920806
said, it had very little dialogue.

and in any case it fell well short of actually telling a story. I would've probably genuinely enjoyed it if he had actually done a full narrative arc instead of a couple scenes.

I'm 27 and I've been playing better at shooters than ever before. I'm more creative and aware. As long as the shooter isn't a 2-shot-to-kill, who-sees-who-first fest, I can usually out-play any snot nosed brat with quick reflexes.

>A good critic is better than a bad movie maker

It's so cute how you actually seem to believe that. But then it's always taken less effort to sit on your mile wide ass and say "Shitsux" than to make an actual film.

Critics should be rounded up and gassed. Ebert should have either put up or shut up

Im not assblasted in the least. Is a weatherman assblasted when he says it's raining when rain falls from the sky? Of course not. Thus Im not "assblasted" when I say Ebert might talk the talk yet more than likely couldn't walk the walk.

Why don't you go and suck your messiah's dead micropenis

I think it's funny that the best Automata story was the one they had nothing to do with.

You mean a bunch of self important shit heads who are desperate to sound intellectual that they have a thesaurus open in a separate tab at all times.

Do you extend your loathing of critics and criticism to social commentary at large, or is it only dead overweight beloved titans of film criticism you despise?
>>
>>78930103

Ill go with the former
>>
>>78930103

well you see if you criticize something then that means they're being made aware of their faults. and if that's the case they have to WORK to improve them. and we can't have that.
