OP, that's one of the worst episodes in the series. Start with the pilot or the curse episode. As for the appeal, don't read too much into it. It's not supposed to be taken seriously. Season 1 is more hijinks. Season 2 is more "oh god these are horrible people having horrible things happen to them, it's like a train wreck but I can't look away"
