Most superheroines would look better with a fully covering costume. Do you agree or disagree?

No SJW discussion here please, this is just a thread about design.
>>
>>78828467
I wouldn't say most, but certainly more than there are now. Batgirl III is best Batgirl. Cassie turned to shit later, but for a while in the mid-aughts she was the best bat-character around. The costume was a big part of why, it fit her character, history, personality, etc well
>>
>>78828467
I kinda agree. For superheros/ines especialy those who don't have powers a practical suit is important.
For example the Huntress outfits who show skin. You run by a fence in the wrong angle and your costume rips apart or your stuck. Not the best condition in a fight.
Another point might be that full cover costumes imply that the heroine doesn't just rely on her female charm but that might be highly subjective.
>>
>>78828467
Yeah but I think costumes need more diversity.

Are you sure? They have their normal life but with the mask they become the personification of the hero. Kinda like Rorschach but less crazy.
Also it's not really secret identity if only the eyes are covered. Although you caould say that to half of the male hero cast aswell
>>

technically speaking, Cass is Batgirl IV, as Batgirl III was Huntress in disguise

Annie Wu once brought up a good point in regards to superhero costume design: you need to make a costume that not only makes sense for what they're doing, but reflects aspects about their personality.

take black canary for example. she's a martial artist by practice, but wears leather clothes and fish-net stockings. however she wears that because it reflects on her personality and what she wants to dress in. it may not be practical, but dinah isn't really someone who focuses on practicality.

or let's go to kamala khan. her costume is pretty basic in design because she's a teenage girl without many resources to make a costume that would protect her better.

i don't think every hero(ine) needs a costume that covers up their whole body. it boils down to what makes sense for what they do and their own sensibility in how the costume reflects their personality.

related image here is a terrible design for wonder woman, as is the official finch one, because it doesn't at all reflect diana's personality or her sensibilities as an amazon warrior. it's basic tacticool armor. if all our heroes wore tacticool armor then it'd be incredibly bland and boring.

people say wondy's bathing suit looks silly but it's part of the iconography, which is also important for heroes with long lasting legacies.

The first one actually looked good. But then it was all the same. I think its rather the fault of the artist. Tacticool can be apealing but if you always do the same it sucks. There is still space for personal special desings on those things without making them overdesigned

While we are at Catwoman. She is actually a prime example of good bodysuit design. Has enough individuality and can show skin if she want.

Nowadays people usually give her boots with high heels.

To be fair, DC is already wacky enough and Selina is promiscuous enough that she's one of the few characters that I'd say could work high heels without it feeling completely stupid, but I still prefer boots on her.

I really dig the cheetah tear-lines here. Only thing is it's REALLY cute, and Selina's always been more lewd than cute, I think.

This would never fly in comics, but WW should be a nudist and not care about how much she covers herself. She would cover herself for the rest of the world, to accept the traditions but on the island they had shared baths and didn't care about nudity

I really like that Storm was a nudist in old comics (doubt shei is now but haven't read).
>>
>>78832508
The costume isn't bad, but having a "catwoman beyond" is a stupid idea

Like, while they were making Batman beyond they were specifically going out of their way to avoid making "joker beyond, two-face beyond, clayface beyond, scarecrow beyond"

You can draw definite parallels, like Ten is Catwoman, Inque shares the villainous elements of Catwoman while filling a clayface role, The guy with the weird spinning outfit has a similar feel to scarecrow while acting more like hugo strange

But they never once just go like "oh this guy is the future version of this guy" straight up, they're all their own characters.

This. she is a statue, and invulnerable. clothing is pointless.
ditto Fire, Killer Frost, Livewire.. any of those elementals for whom clothes are irrelevant
common sense ground-level heroines who need protection should wear sensible useful clothes.
barda warrior types should have armor without much care for what it covers, just that it comes in handy
acrobatic sorts who cant take hits anyway should stick to spandex
it's not that fuckin hard.

>>
>>78832866
well, not everyone invulnerable should go around nude. Some invulnerable people are still shy, or they actually want to keep themselves secret like Batman or Superman. Scars could show who you are (I know, poor examples).

But yeah, Iceman prefers to be in his nude ice form, Storm IS a nudist, Hulk doesn't care, She-Hulk also is a nudist (A-Force 1 confirms it with her saying she agrees to no clothes).

There should be more nude heroes. I wonder if that's why I like Singularity, cause she's so...naked. Emotionally and physically.

Disagree.
It'd just make the design become overdone and bland.
There should be a variety of costumes.
Not every hero should be Spider-man, so not every heroine should be Spider-girl.
>>
>>78834322
And I just had a chat with my LCS owner about how the new X characters in the latest years look too bland\generic, and one of the reasons X-men was successful was because you could recognise them at first sight, without having to read the dialogues
>>
>>78834397
Yeah, Emma and Magick borderline look the same, even outside the artstyle.
Who's the wise guy who thought to take Emma out of white?
>>
>>78834295
depends. If they have accelerated healing, like most do (I can't think of a super that doesn't have accelerated healing), they will generate much more heat and make them resistant to cold. This has been shown with most Marvel supers, especially when they encounter Thor's ice trolls
>>
>>78828467

I agree, it does not make sense for a superhero to be going out with revealing skin tight suits when it doesn't provide any tactical adventage whatsoever.

You are a fucking idiot who has never exerted yourself. You need to shed heat, so you sweat. But the only way that works is if it evaporates, it can do that between clothing but when the clothing absorbs enough it makes an equilibrium. Hence why they wear the least amount of clothes they can. It's not fan service, that is just a by product that they profit on.

Fucking idiot

There's barely any, but plenty of male ones. A lot of people say they "hate the bald look" on female characters which confuses me a lot. The hair hanging out of the cowl Batgirl-style always looked awful to me.
>>
>>78834907

Let's compare the modern comic book hero with the modern world. Soldiers in Afghanistan don't wear skimpy clothing because our clothing technology has advanced so far we can wear clothing that can give off heat and fight at the same time.
