Homer is an asshole father as well but he has some redeeming qualities and he's funny, the dad in this show is just a dick and its not funny at all.
My own dad is a pretty nice guy so maybe I just can't relate but I think this show is terrible.
I enjoyed it. Not the funniest show, but I still enjoyed watching it. Felt sympathetic to me.

God-tier opening, funny and smart. It's basically what the lovechild of King of the Hill and BoJack Horseman would look like.

So, you ask if there is a place for another animated average dysfunctional yet functional family on TV, because we only have Simpsons,American Dad,Family Guy,Bobs Burgers,King of the Hill and maybe 50 other I dont even know their name.. If that is what you are asking then, yes, it seems that people like this kind of shows.
But if you ask if this show is good on its own, without taking into account that it is a copy of a copy of a copy, while , answer is again ,YES.
Surprisingly , show managed to bring a little fresh air by bringing modern problems into '70 setting all the while showing that every generation is actually dealing with same day to day bullshit in their lives.
