What the fuck happened?
>>
Suddenly the show was named Steven Universe?
>>
>>78812470
What's the name of the cartoon to the left of Thundercats? The King and girl look familiar
>>
>>78812470

70's was largely produced in America and as such designed to be as minimalist and simple as possible for cheap production, while operating under the idea of "kids don't give a shit about quality."

80's was largely produced by Japanese studios but followed Western designs.

90's was the same, but hearkened back to old designs because retro was in, and American companies had more direct oversight of what the Japanese studios did.

2000's was an extremely chaotic period of anime influences, traditional holdouts, and experimentation with flash and honestly I don't blame Harry for skipping over that decade.

2010's is produced in Korea and has far more direct input than ever before, and has fallen into a new, overall rounder style that emerged at the end of the 2000's chaos.

Literally the worst decade?
>>
>>78812470

Phineas and Ferb's art being held up as an example of the post-2000 era bugs me since they were created while Dan and Swampy were working on Rocko's Modern Life.
>>
>>78813957

No, That is the 60's or 70's

Even this post agrees that (>>78812709) is the worst decade for animation.

Why aren't the Japanese allowed more control over western animation anymore? They do it better than any other country.

>Cartoons were cheap garbage for 20 years
>Cartoons given to Japs, spike in quality

I don't know what motivated companies to actually try to make good animation for that brief burst, but I'm glad I was there.

Higher budgets relative to animation cost. And most 80s stuff is still about cutting corners with elaborate key designs.
>>
Anyone that thinks the 90's look good has objectively shit taste.

The "90% of everything of is crap" rule holds up pretty well I think.

What's the show next to Penny from Inspector Gadget? The non Clarence one.

And what's the one on the top far right?
>>

Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors for the first and Heathcliff and the Catillac Cats for the second.

Japan doesn't even animate anything any more. They outsource everything to Korea and the Philippines.
>>
>>78815906
That woman kicked a car out of the pool
>>
>>78812470
They started using cheaper methods for animation, instead of profiting off the backs of Korean and Chinese slave laborers. That's what happened.
>>

>>
>>78812470
You forgot that until around 1995, every cartoon animated at roughly three frames a minute.

Designs are simpler now because the characters ACTUALLY FUCKING MOVE.
>>
>>78812470
So there was a time jump where the 2000's never happened?
>>
>>78816783
Yeah, don't you remember? After they defeated Cell in 1999, the world skipped ahead to 2011 because that's when Gohan started high school and became Great Saiyaman.
>>
>>78816497
This

I was just watching it too.
The art is great and the animation is great

>>

>>
>>78814972
Akibahara happened. Suddenly, Japan jumped up from about 25 anime a year to over a hundred. Now, Japan is too busy animating its own shit and isn't the easy outsourcing area it used to be. If the same thing suddenly happened to Korea, we'd have to find yet another country to outsource to. Luckily, nobody cares about Korean animation.
>>
>>78815906
just watched that movie again last night. still high quality.
>>
>>78814429
This one is underrated to be honest, the cubist style can be great if you know how to use it.
>>
>>78814972
Too expensive. Japan is an animation destination now. You don't go there to get shit animated in your style, you go there to get your shit animated in their style.

Sci-Fi channel's Saturday Anime was a blessing.

Eastern animation will never know another age like the late 80s-mid 90s again. Moe waifu garbage and 700+ episode shonen carrot on a stick shows will endure for all eternity because lonely japs eat it up like candy.

>>
>>78817265

This is actually sort of accurate, outside of OAVs and Theatrical releases we will never experience the same quality again due to the formulaic and budgeted techniques developed in the mid to late nineties. The west must evolve and pick up the pieces.
