Why do Marvel likes so much to pose as #PROGRESSIVE but is such a mess with its LGBT-related content?
DC has so much stories with them (Batwoman, Midnighter, Constantine, Harley Quinn...), while Marvel relegates their small number of LGBT characters to cameos or obscurity.

DC does have Batwoman and Midnighter which are both very gay and very good. Quality-wise I would even agree that DC's gay content is better, but it is not nearly the same in quantity or in how visible it is in the general canon.

That's the way it should be when you think about it.
When you constantly advertise that your character is gay, it feels artificial and manufactured.
If it's just shown as being a part of their life, and has little or no bearing on their personality, it feels much more organic. And really, it's true to life. I've met more than a few guys who I didn't know were gay until they told me.
But of course, doing things the classy way isn't a good way to attract readers. Marvel may be lacking in dignity, but they aren't lacking in sales.

I don't think we should conflate the marketing people and the writers/artists' intents. Of course marketing is going to be all about what they think will get them sales. It makes sense even if you find it distasteful. But some of the most cynically marketed comics have actually ended up being well done by the creative team.
