I kind of feel bad for Frank.

He's put through a lot, and is clearly miserable with his job and family, and gets fired for all his hard work.

That being said, he almost fucking drowned his son and can be a fucking monster to his family sometimes (lying about his wife turning down the job with plastiware)
>>
>>78778463
F is for Family.
It's a more realistic dysfunctional family sitcom but not the funniest. It's main attraction is pure relatabilty.
>>
>>78778450
>Shilling.
What?
>>
>>78778545
like bob's burgers relatability or like malcolm in the middle relatability?

malcolm in the middle
>>

Malcolm in the Middle by a long shot.

I was saying it was more Curb Your Enthusiasm but meh.

He reminds me of my dad

Frank is pretty much Archie Bunker uncensored.
I think that's what they were going for.
>>
>>78778045
i really dislike how forced the main character's masculinity comes off. does anyone else feel similarly?
>>
>>78779334
I'm pretty sure that was exactly the point.

oh okay. i'll give it a miss then. i respect that kind of shit but i just can't handle it until my own life gets better, y'know?

How many of you were thinking while watching this about your own dad growing up under a similar household.

Like my dad was probably Bill Murphy growing up. I wonder how many times he got threatened with a beating by his dad in the morning only to get the shit kicked out of him by the local bully an hour later and then you come home to your dad calling you a pussy.
>>
>>78779334
It's a good example why the boomers are all psychopaths.
>>
What's the deal with Bill Burr's sudden popularity? I had never heard of the guy until recently and he just seems to have shot up in popularity. A lot of people suddenly know who he is and reference his bullshit, he suddenly appears in a bunch of bullshit, all this bullshit, what it this bullshit?

Was he just unknown and then 1 guy promoted him and now everyone knows or what?
>>
>>78779334
Hey fuck you he bleed out in Korea!
>>
>>78778545
I don't relate at all but it's pretty funny

He's been popular from O@A. as well as his stand up and podcast.

Maybe it's just some bullshit with me not knowing about him and seeing him once and then just seeing him everywhere because he was always there to begin with but I just never noticed. I think there is a name for that.

The girl-that-liked-you-in-high-school-but-you-never-noticed effect or something like.

In the 60s the societal norms of parental rule being like the rule of a violent dictator was kind of a rigid unbroken constant.

The 70s rolls around and one man's salary doesn't provide a living income for a household. Their kids are disillusioned with authority figures. Their wives are suddenly more employed and more independent.

Suddenly the liberating experiences of the 60s make the rigid and reliable nuclear family seem a little more like suffocation.

Suddenly the macho father authority figure seems more like a bullying despotic king. And then most of all, people realise that the father figure in the nuclear family isn't the key to making it work, especially when he becomes redundant, diminished wages, ect.

The fact that Frank is unemployed at the beginning of next season but his wife isn't. This show's got a cool zietgiest-y vibe to it that I dig. I wanna see where else we're going with it.
>>
>>78779717
That episode was heavy

>"...why doesn't he want me, Uncle Phil?"
>>
>>78779795
Meh. I think you just want to gripe. You can easily look up his stand up or even his Conan interviews.
>>
>>78779941
Podcasts too. All good shit
>>
>>78779845
>And then most of all, people realise that the father figure in the nuclear family isn't the key to making it work, especially when he becomes redundant, diminished wages, ect.
What is the key, then?
>>
>>78779985
Eeeeh I steer clear of pointing people to his podcast due to him putting his "wife" on from time to time. If someone new to Bill Burr hears one of those shows or clips they will totally hate his fucking guts.
His usual attitude changes when she's around as he tries to let her get her shit in and it's god awful. Just horrible.

>>
>>78779717
Having a dad isn't a luxury by definition.
Person A may have a dad who is loving, attentive, inspiring and always there.
Person B may have a father that has no job, drinks all day long, and abuses the members of his family.
There is no absolute positive correlation between growing up with a present father figure and achieving some incredible level of personal happiness.

However, whatever the situation was that occurred causing you to grow up without a father, I'm really sorry about that, truthfully.
If it actively causes issues with your emotional state, then I hope that you may find some healthy means of coping with it.

Is that what was implied? Or did Kevin stumble into the pool?

I like the series and enjoyed the few episodes there were.

But the last scene of the last episode really killed me.

>You can handle this.
>*pause*
>No you can't.
Or something to that effect.

That put me through a fucking wall.

I think you have missed the point, friend.
the head of the household hasn't been changed to less vital, he's been prevented from providing his vital duties, and the family unit has collapsed. there's nothing to replace it, because that IS what's needed.

I'm not going to watch this show just because Bill Burr is a loser whos ugly black wife literally controls
>>
I hated it initially in the first episode when he was yelling and screaming in front of / at his family, but when they showed they all cared for each other, I warmed up to it.

I love the writing for the kids.

Some moments packed a real emotional punch. Don't know if they really did or if it was because I was stoned though.

Enjoyed it enough to hope for more.

No, he's sympathetic by the end. He may be a cocksucker, but we see him vulnerable and miserable too.

>>78778978
Not surprising considering this show ripped off one of the episodes from it.

I can't believe people actually like this so much
It feels like what if Seth MacFarlane wrote for KOTH. It's just mediocre.

It's good as a drama. The comedy is poor though, with most of the supposed humor either being too crass or just cringeworthy in general.

I kind of have the same problem with this that I have with The Critic. Both Jon Lovitz and Bill Burr have voices that go with animation greatly, but there are moments where the animation isn't good enough to match their brilliant delivery of a line.
>>
>>78780060
>his wife
You mean his LAAAAAAAAAAAYDEEEEE
>>
>>78789644
It wasn't dadcore, really. It was fantasy power metal. Dadcore is stuff like AC/DC and shit, no fantasy influences.
I had a phase like that in my teenage years.
>>
>>78789644
It's set in the 70s you fucking idiot.

>>78789812
>Dadcore is stuff like AC/DC and shit, no fantasy influences.

Dadcore isn't a genre, it's something teenagers call metal because they got made fun of on metal sites for listening to tween bands and not knowing metal history

>no fantasy influences.
Even if we were to talk about what is called "dadcore", this is wrong....Led Zeppelin? Black Sabbath? Deep Purple? Dio? Rainbow? No fantasy influences? That's where it all comes from
>>
>>78789853
Ok, you're right. What I meant to say they don't feature the fantasy influences as blatantly. They don't literally sing about elves and shit.
>>
>>78779534
Not really, my dad grew up in a wealthy family in the 50s. I'm sure he still went through some shit, but a different kind of shit
