I appreciate that they're using people who look like their counterparts, but this is a totally different villain. Maleficent had ambiguous general evil as a motive. Making her into a sympathetic victim was easy because she was nebulous. Cruellas motivation was vanity via animal murder. Unless you're going to have Lauren Faust and Michael Vick play the goons for a sick giggle, this premise falls flat

They even allowed Maleficent to be the bigger person by giving him the chance to stop fighting but no he was an evil man and kept trying to kill her. She wasn't even allowed to kill him. In some, Persephone genuinilly loved him in return, in other she hates being with him, and in others she's only there to get away from her mother Demeter.
