I like to think that it is because she can fit whatever traits you want. The only things that are really established about her is that she is nice, looks good and have some level of technical skill. Anything else is up for grabs. Which is why i personally can't recognise the Korrasami fandom version of Asami which seems to include being confident and dominant.

And while there was no conflict within the show, there was a huge conflict within the fanbase which included the creators.
And with the upcoming comics it is definately going to impact the events of the show and fanbase.
So yeah them getting together was forced into the show to please certain people and get Bryke praise and hopefully for them an award or two. It's pretty much as bad and forced as Makorra.

It, like alot of things in LoK, only happened because Bryke needed it to. Which seems forced to me, because basic writing would prevent it from happening. Also i did give you examples of things that prevented the ending, mainly it can be summed up as "the characters being out of character". If something requires your characters to not be themselves you should probably not go with it.

Korra lived with Tenzin while in the wheelchair until she was send home to the southpole. For all we know Asami only helped her dress once for Jinoras ceremony.
So all thats really going for it is the forced ending that lasted less than 5 minutes. All the other stuff is headcanon made up to justify the lack of development.
