It's based on a misconception of his origin that got spread by an Asian person, and in online social justice you aren't to question minorities, and GamerGate happened, which made people extremely binaristic on the political scale. This, Danny's story isn't of a "White Saviour" and/or "Mighty Whitey", it's the story of a child of privilege being raised as a ethnic minority in one culture and then being suddenly thrust into a privileged position again. He eventually sees how his new gained privileges affect those around him. In his job, surrounded by rich white dudes, and Harlem mostly populated by America's ethnic minorities.
But, ALL people want to do is myopically fixate on his origin story, and get it completely wrong. I've seen people compare his story to "The Last Samurai", and "Dancing with wolves", as though that even remotely matches the tone of Iron Fist.
People also compare him being white to "Yellow face", like what?! All I can thing of is the misconception of people thinking Marvel creating a Kung-Fu character without an Asian lead, while conveniently missing out Shang-Chi.
